beautiful visuals for a really cozy game! it's a bit hard to select the leaf you want to put in the book and the gameplay is pretty repetitive but overall it's very relaxing!

Character controller had interesting movement, everything is so pretty, gameplay is smooth except when trying to move immediately after picking something up or pick something up while moving. Gameplay loop felt a little stale quickly. I wish I could push space to open AND to close the book. I wish I could traverse through the book using left and right (a or d) instead of having to click. Selecting the leaf I wanted to was a bit finicky at times where I would be clicking nowhere near the leaf I wanted to be able to drag it. Overall the construction of the entire game was good with a few small places where improvements could be made. In the book the tabs at the top made me wish I could also just hover over a tab to get a mini picture of the shape of a leaf and then click that to jump right to a specific page. Again everything is so pretty and the level looks great, the character looks great. The mechanics are all almost perfectly spot on, just the few things I noted above I feel like could be improved. Great work.
I loved the transitions and stuff, I didn't finish the game because I got bored of RNG not giving me new leaves. Outside of my very minor gripes, I think this game was amazing. Great work.
Awesome game! Everything about it is very cozy, and I love the art style. I just think that after playing for around 15-20 minutes, the game would start to get repetitive, so if it's ever expanded upon, I think adding more features such as NPCs and other stuff to do would be really cool. Great job!
I like the leaf gathering aspect and having to manually place them into the scrapbook. I think keyboard navigation or a bookmark that jumps to specific pages within the scrapbook would be helpful, especially towards the end when there's only a couple of leaves/notes left.
The duplicate leaf issue was a problem when on the last leaf, as you need to get the correct type in addition to a new colour for the scrapbook. I grew frustrated when attempting to find a chestnut leaf, and upon doing so, learned that I already have that specific colour and having to find another leaf. A potential improvement to mitigate duplicates is to include more colour variations than are actually necessary for scrapbook and reduce the frequency completed leaves are given. This is so that even when there's one space left for a leaf type, there's still a decent chance of getting a new leaf colour.
For example:
- currently, there's exactly 8 leaves for the scrapbook's 8 spaces. When you get to the last space for that leaf type, you have a 1-in-8 chance of getting a new colour. Factor in getting the correct leaf type (there are 8 types; the notes seem to remove themselves from the pool once all are found), then the chance of getting a new colour for the correct leaf type is 1-in-64 or 1-in-64 kicked trees
- if you have 12 potential leaves for the scrapbook's 8 spaces, then on the final space, you will have a 5-in-12 chance of getting a new colour. Factor in leaf types, then getting a new colour of the correct leaf type is 5-in-96 or about 1-in-20 kicked trees
The overall difference doesn't appear much, but it goes from having to kick 64 trees to find the last leaf to only kicking 20 trees.
I like the near circular nature of the forest layout. It made it easier to cycle between trees and leaf piles. The unique points of interest like the dead end with the red trees, and the small island by the river made me want to explore more of this forest.
The artstyle and music were very good.
A leisurely game about filling out your scrapbook during an autumn walk.
Edit: corrected 1-in-66 to 1-in-64 kicked trees. Not sure why I wrote 66
O boi o boi, this is a hard work you put in this piece of feedback, thank you for your suggestions and even examples, goddaym! We'll be working on improving the coziness and lowering the frustration levels in future updates, so stay tuned if interested! And also, thanks for taking your time playing the game and giving this much useful info, we really appreciate that!
Love the idea and concept, it's creating a cozy atmosphere for sure. The art style is very distinct. Gameplay-wise, I would have liked a bit more variety after playing for a while, which made me lose motivation to collect all the leaves. Some in-game guidance or in-between reward might help to keep players engaged. Overall, good job and a worthy entry for the jam!
I really enjoyed the concept, music, and especially the animations!
My only complaint is getting so many duplicate leaves/notes. It looks like the book is keeping track of which ones have been found so maybe removing, or at least reducing the frequency, of already found leaves would be help this?
Over all lots of fun and an adorable main character though!
Oh very good art direction! It's a pretty solid concept as well. My biggest gripe is that since the trees are randomized it's hard to actually complete the book of leaves. It's honestly understandable that there just wasn't the number of 3D models to go with the types of leaves though! Good job overall!
I love the player character design and animations. I spent 45 minutes trying to get all the leaves but had to stop playing with only 3 left to find. The music was nice and relaxing. Overall, great work!
Very lovely game! feels very polished and cozy. only suggestion would be to maybe have less leaves or more variety, but overall it was very sweet :)
Art style and graphics are exceptionally cozy!! I love the style you chose for this! There are as lot of things you could add to this game to make it even better maybe different types of trees, leaf shapes though like another commentor said, there may have been a few too many leaves to collect. The character design is lovely as well. There is some polish to be needed but thats to be expected! Great job on this.
This game is amazing! The art and music are very cozy, and the game has a lot of polish.
I have a small suggestion. I would have liked if when you clicked on a leaf it would automatically take you to the right page.
You did a great job!
Very nice art and music. Definitely cozy! I think my only issue was having leaves falling where I couldn't get them. But moving the collection to the book was very satisfying. Well done!
Very cute! Any issues I had have already been posted by others, so I'll just emphasize that I really like the feel - the nice visuals with animated grass, falling leaves and an adorable character, and very nice music! Well done :)
A charming collectathon, good job.
I was 3 away from completing the collection but it took a bit too long with duplicates at the ~70% mark.
Drops don’t seem to duplicate any held in hand, but it wasn’t enough to help me beyond 90%
A few points to consider:
-
The collection is a bit too large to complete, considering the drop rate seems random and static.
-
Maybe consider dropping a few leaf variants at once.
-
Maybe decrease the collection by a little.
-
You might want to decrease duplicate drop rates by a little or have a fuzzy soft cap to drop a non-duplicate.
-
Maybe spawn some leaves around the player at random intervals to mix up the pacing a little.
This was super cozy and cute. What a novel idea of having the cat just collect leaves of the fall, such a great concept and easy to understand. The music was especially lovely. If I were to develop it further I would add some more variety to the sounds, pepper the gathering of the leaves with a little backstory or reason for going and gathering the leaves. Maybe allow the player to interact with some other things that aren't leaves that could drive along a story. Like a swingset, stacked stones, a bench to sit on, etc... That would definitely extend the life of the game and make me want to continue gathering the leaves to further the story along. Right now while it is very cute and cozy, once you figure out the mechanic its just going around and kicking trees or piles of leaves over and over again. This has a lot of potential, I hope you continue to update it after the jam!
