In what way does your game fit the theme?
The bullets have a special juice that does just that: rewind their own time.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote the code myself with the help of tutorials and the godot docs. All assets are made from scratch for the purpose of this jam.

The rewind mechanic is one of the most interesting I've seen so far! Took me awhile to clear that first big jump though haha. Once you get the hang of it it's pretty fun. Music was a little too loud, and it would've been nice to have some more sound FX.

Nice game, I always like platform with shooting. You did a good job with graphics and sound in 1 week.

Couple of suggestions:

  • The menu is very flat, maybe a nice background picture can make the difference.
  • Some option to change the music volume
  • Also adding some sound effects for shooting and killing will create a more atmosphere .
  • Collision with the enemies let you pass through them , In my case I prefer when they collide .

My game is a casual game if you wanna rate is https://misterm.itch.io/mixtape-match , Thanks

I love the music and the art! All the sprites were really well made. Also the mechanic felt really good. Just the jump that catapults you felt a bit unintuitive, but thats fine! Nice job :3

Developer(+1)

Thank you! True, the catapulting needs work and better levels designed around it, which I'll work on after the jam :)

Oooh. This is a really cool mechanic. Unfortunately, I played it on a laptop, which means the jumping tricks are almost impossible to do with a trackpad. I wish that the slowdown thing would also slow down the bullets... And maybe last a little longer, I dunno. Maybe I should just go get a mouse :P

Pretty decent music as well. And good job creating all those sprites.

The tutorial backgrounds are really cool :)

Some of the tiles with computers (?) on them and a much lighter grey background were a bit confusing... I thought they were walls while they we're actually a background. Anyway, just a minor thing :)

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I imagine it would be harder with a trackpad, but your suggestions are still valid. I did ponder on slowing down the bullets a few times, but I'm not sure if I'll go through with it yet as it may make zooming through the levels not as exciting, but I'll give it a go. I also thought of making the bullet freeze for longer in the air before rewinding giving more time for the player to react. Those are all things I'm going to experiment around, thanks for pointing them out :)

Glad you liked the music! It was a bit rushed and I will eventually rework them. Same for the sprites.

Yup, the background is very confusing at times, someone else has mentioned he fish bones as well. I'll do my best to blend them in.

Thanks for your helpful feedback! :D

I love the mechanic of rewinding the bullet to propel yourself! One could build an entire game on that concept alone! Great work overall!

Developer

Thank you! I also had a lot of fun with your game :)

The mechanics are very well although i think there are some problems with collision detection. The pixel art is lovable. The dual design purpose of the gun is soo cool and  really wins my heart ! I tried to speedrun the game and it was really fun... The game should implement more on this one or atleast add as extention level. I loved the game so much!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, that's good to hear :). And yes, there are collision detection problems between the bullets and the player, as well as with the win condition. Those will be fixed after the jam. I'll be sure to make speedrunning as satisfying as possible in the final release as well as expanding the game beyond a single level. Thank you again for the feedback :D

Snap! Loved the mechanics and the pixel art. Great submission for the timeframe.

Could you please rate and play my game too?

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you like it, I intend on improving the pixel art with parallax backgrounds and such after the jam :)

I played and and rated your game, it's pretty fun, I hope you keep on expanding it!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks Ninfar! I plan on doing so and I appreciate you taking the time and effort to rate my game.

Despite some flaws, I really really liked the main mechanics of the game. I'm always found of double-design purposes and the gun is a really nice example of this. I absolutely think that you should expand this, speedrunners would love this. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I had speedrunning in mind so I'm glad to know :).  I'll be further developing this after the jam

I love the graphics and it's really fun to play. But there could be more sound effects in it.

The rewind bullets are really cool!

It would be cool if you would rate my game^^

The game is really fun to play, i lost myself playing to it, and the art and music is really cute and well done.

PS. Your game deserve some more love , in my opinion!!! 😗

Here's my feedback:

  • The menù looks like a logo (i stared at him for more than i want to admit it 🤣)
  • While shifting on the ground you can see oob
  • I tought, because you teached me the the slow motion before falling in the pit, that the fish skeleton would hurt me and i had to dodge it mid air
  • The propulsion with the projectle is hard (whitout slowing time, witch is never really explained you can do that)
  • You explained me that i can hurt the enemys with the rewinded projectles, but you never explained me what are the benefit to do it, nor put me in a situation where i need that mechainc
  • Hard cut on the end, some sort of ending animation would be nice
  • The goal isn't really clear (I just got it because i like slauthering enemys), and if you don't kill the starting enemys i belive you softlocked yourself (Unless there's a way to get up to the start that i haven't seen, that is)....

Thank you for the helful reply!

-The menu is strange indeed, I'll be sure to make it more menu-like.

-Yeah, I tried to hide it but apparently it wasn't enough xD

- lol I had a feeling that fish would confuse people, I too got fooled by it when I was sleepy thinking "wth is this item again" xD. I need to find a way to blend it with the background. Nice catch

- True, it is unnecessarily hard, even for me. That was a mechanic I made up in the last few hours of the jam (bad idea), before that you would have limited bullets and would have to catch them without knockback. I need to re-design the game to fit that mechanic better (and fix a bug regarding it)

- Very good point, I intend on making it so some enemies have a hard shell that can only be broken with the rewinded bullets (cuz at the moment you can easly beat the game without them)

- Indeed, and sometimes the enemy kill count fails and the end comes sooner (and other times never does)

- Another good point, the goal was just my excuse for an end. I just played the game again to see if it is possible to climb back up. It's not xD

There were also supposed to be trees that produce "rewind bullet juice" which would limit your rewinds but I didn't have time to implement that.

Thanks again for the reply, you've helped a ton :)

Very beautiful game art, gameplay I found fun and fluid, addressed the topic well. Congratulations on your development!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks you, that means a lot! I'm planning on reworking the background after the jam as I found they don't blend very well with the environment, but I'm glad you liked the art :)
