In what way does your game fit the theme?
1) It has a REWIND feature enabling you to teleport back in time (hold the [R] key for that)
2) It has "wind" in the name (if we reinterpret the REWIND theme to mean "re-wind")

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes.

I really like how the ship can terraform the land around it! I didn't end up using the rewind mechanic too much, which proves how good the controls were! (once you get used to them)

Developer

Thank you! I agree that the rewind mechanic is somewhat questionable. I’m working on making it more beneficial & easier to use, will update after the jam.

Very fun! Check out ours too!

Did that already :)

I really don't know how you made a game like this with only 1 MB. Controls are very smooth. Lvl up system and score trackers make the game addictive. A nice 8-bit music and retro sound effects will make the game more enjoyable!

Developer

Thank you! 1MB is simple: I don’t use any engines, going bare bones.

Man, the game doesn’t even have any sound..

Oh gosh, i think i mistook your game for another one! Haha so sorry! I dont play each game one by one but go through a ton at a time and review!

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow this game is so simple yet very fun! Action packed and fast paced, I really liked it! Some more epic sound effects would have been cool, but the end product is still very nice. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! Yep, sound effects & some music are planned, after the jam.

Thank you so much for a detailed review! 1MB is thanks to not using any engine :) Glad you liked the text - I added it at the last moment. I know the movements are hard, and I don’t think a mouse would fit here, but I’m still thinking on ways to improve the experience. I miss the sound, too - didn’t have the time to work on it, but definitely will add it after the jam (isn’t that straightforward since I’m not using any engines). Thanks again!

The controls are a bit hard to master but i think this is intended. Good game. Well done! :)

Haven't played a classic arcade space shooter like this in a while! I enjoyed it, although it was pretty tough and I could only make it to level 4 or so. Ship control felt energetic, but a bit fast for me to feel like I was truly in control. Destructible terrain was really awesome, and the classic scoreboard at the end was a nice touch. The rewind was hard to predict, so I didn't find it that useful -- but I can imagine how it really would be valuable for survival if there was some way to know where it would put you, like a visible echo. Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Yep, some say that this rewind feature is really useful, but I found myself almost not using it. It actually shows a ghost of you if you press [R] but not release it, - I agree that it is not clear at all, my fault. Thanks for your feedback!

Your game is really neat,  I love that the ground is effected by all the projectiles!  You should keep working on it! Congrats on successfully submitting a game to the jam and I hope you learned a lot of new things.  Please check out my game when you have time :D

Really liked the retro vibe that the game has and it is super fun to play. The controls are a little hard at the start, but as i got more familiarized with the mechanics it got easier. After some plays it is really rewarding to use the rewind skill to dodge missiles in the last moment.

Nice job, hope you keep it up!

Developer

Thank you a lot! Happy to hear that you’ve got used to the mechanics!

Really fun game! I've always loved galaga, astroids, geometry wars, and the like. I loved the destructible terrain, This game can be brutal though lol. the floaty movement definitely took some getting used to but it added an extra layer of chaos to the game that I appreciated. Great work!

Developer

Really glad that you appreciated the chaos, it is the core idea of the game :) Thank you!

I think I am really biased with games like this because i really enjoy this sort of genre of game, I think as the comment below says the destructable terrain was a very cool feature. The only downside I really felt was that I thought the movement could be a bit sharper, sometimes it felt like I was flying on icecubes honestly was fine after a bit of playing tho xD.

Developer

Thank you a lot! I’ve experimented with different options regarding the terrain collision, and decided that “ice cubes” is the best - provides you with funny maneuver opportunities :) Yet I didn’t have time to perfect the physics & movement.

Very well designed , I like the rewindsystem implementation and also how the level progression goes!

For first the control seemed a bit difficult to me (but it might be only me :D) after you get the hang of it it's kinda nice!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, many people blame the controls, though they are really the point of the game.

Submitted(+1)

Well, I think it gives the difficulty that is needed so I would not mind it! :)

Submitted(+1)

This is nice, reminds me of old 90s cave flyer games :) The destructible terrain is a cool feature!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game!I enjoyed the retro feel even when it comes to the controls, which seem inspired by Asteroids.

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game! especially when you can just destroy the enviroment. And it's also impressive that it's not made with a big engine. Controls are kinda hard at first, but got used to it eventually. Overall really nice game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you managed to get used to controls, I know they are a bit weird.

Submitted(+1)

Great game but it is really hard to control.

Developer

Thank you! Guess I should’ve spent more time tweaking the controls.

Submitted(+1)

really cool i am really impressed you made that game using framework that's is kinda cool you made good / smooth controls  for ship. if i am not wrong that game you made using libgdx right?
Overall good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! No, the game uses SDL2 for platform-dependent stuff (create window, handle keyboard, etc) and OpenGL for graphics. I’d say there’s nothing in it that I’d call a framework.
