In what way does your game fit the theme?
Rewinding returned tapes is a part of the game, and it's set into the golden age of cassette based media ("rewind into a different time")

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
100% of the code in the game is written by us for the game. No 3rd party code was used beyond what's built into UE4. A large part of the 3D and sound assets was created by us. All other assets have suitable licenses to use or are in the public domain.

Really enjoyed managing all of the VHS tapes. It took me a whole day in game to figure out that I was supposed to rewind the tapes but loved going around and putting all the VHS's tapes back on their shelves and the ninja's were awesome. Really liked the voices too! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! For the rewind, we realized we should have put it into the call you receive in the start of the game, but the phonecall was one of the last features we added to the game and we didn't want to risk breaking anything :D Definitely something we want to address in a future version though.

Hah pretty fun management game. I definitely felt like when I worked in retail back in the day, suuuper triggered haha. Great job!

Developer

Haha, never expected real retail to be that hectic! Thanks for playing!

pretty aswm job man or women

this game have nice sound

Developer

Thank you very much! :D

Strangely addictive and somewhat meditative.

I feel the next step for that game would having you actually sort movies by title or subgenre.

I've noticed that about a week into it customers were exclusively renting tapes, never returning them, no idea if that was a bug or not.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review! There does indeed seem to be a relatively rare bug where the AI will stop returning tapes, which we're investigating at the moment. Furthermore, if there will be enough interest in the game, we're considering expanding on the game.

Nice graphics, and quite hilarious, great job!

Developer

Thank you very much! :D

This game was very well made and fun. for some reason working at a VHS store was one of the most fun games I have played yet. I enjoyed the silly customers and the style and mechanics of this game. I enjoyed setting up a little food station for my character and messing around with AI and physics. Overall this was one of my favorite games so far, Good Job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! :D

Great game! I played it over and over again. I little indicator, that I am dying form starvation or dehydration would be a nice addition. I can see me this playing a little more in the future! Good Job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We are considering giving the player a debuff, such as making you move slower, instead of just killing you off . That might make the status effects a little bit less "oh oops I died"

Submitted

Sound quite, right. To be honest, i laughed big time when i died the first time!

One of the best looking games i've seen! Love the humor on it and overall its a nice experience! Good job!

Developer

Thank you very much! :D

Hey, that is a real funny game, great voices and unique gameplay, well done!

Developer

Thanks :)

Very fun game with amazing voice acting. I wish the movement speed was a bit faster and the jump was high enough to jump over the table. As most people said, the necessities system could be tuned down a bit. Thanks for the great game.

Developer

Thanks :) Yeah we might increase the jump strength, I often like just jumping around for no reason in first person games and I can't do it in this now :D

Submitted

this was so much fun! seems there's no pleasing every customer just like real life lol. the voice acting was hilarious!

Developer

Thank you :)

Wow that was a fun experience! It was a very fun mechanic of having to organize everything; gives that rushed sort of feeling to put everything in their correct spot. I would say because there's already a lot of stuff to do, the other metrics would take away from the main game. Dialogue was nice, good balance of the nice customers and the spiteful ones to simulate real life. Great job and I hope you try out and rate our game as well!

Developer

Glad to hear you enjoyed the game :) Gonna check out yours in a bit!

Submitted

This must be one of my favorite games from this Jam!

Pretty funny dialog and very interesting mechanics, maybe you could tweak a little the necessities system since it doesn't impact the game play too much.

Developer

Glad to hear you liked our game! For the necessities system, we wanted it to be part of the things you'd have to take care of during the workday, but you're right and we hope to tweak it along with other changes to the daily tasks to switch things up a bit more

HELLO FELLOW WARRIOR!

I really like this submission, the voice dialogue is pretty funny and the art is good. The mechanics feel a bit cluttered though, the hunger/thirst/urine system is just kinda 'there' and doesn't contribute much to the core mechanics of the movie store. I rarely felt like I ever had time to organize the movies and didn't see much incentive to. It didn't help that there's not a very clear indication of a movie's genre without looking directly at it, so it takes a lot of time to find the out of place movies. I also kinda stopped bothering with the rewinder, as it took longer than the amount of returns I was getting. Maybe having multiple rewinders would help with that? And perhaps a smaller store layout would let you get to and from your desk quicker, making movie sorting less cumbersome. Also, there were times the customers all talked at once which was really annoying, so an audio queue system would help. Overall though, really cool game, nice work!

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback :) We've been tweaking the game pacing a lot, and hopefully we can work on adding some more relevant tasks and make the whole "managing the store" experience a little bit less hectic. There is a system in place whereby customers look for the tape they want in its category, and if you haven't sorted them, they are likely to not find it - but it's not really explained anywhere, so that's another thing we'll have to improve on.

Submitted

Ha this was a fun game, I like it a lot ha my game is kinda similar haha but I really like how you included putting the tapes and everything it felt very hectic ha and I loved the voices they were amazing

Developer

Thank you! Gonna check out yours, I love seeing how others have approached a similar concept :)

Looks extremely dark (see the image). Was running under Linux via Wine, though, so it may be Wine’s problem.

Developer(+1)

Oh dear, yeah that's gotta be a problem with Wine and UE4 :\ It looks like none of the static lighting is working. It did not occur at all that we could have uploaded a Linux build of the game... I'm going to see if we can make a native build for you and any other Linux users. I don't know if they'll let us upload it though since the jam deadline passed, so we'll see.

Submitted

I think I’ve seen people do updates after the submission deadline (since technically an update is not a submission, I guess?..) here. I’m not sure how many Linux players are here, so it might not be worth it (though I personally would highly appreciate it, of course :D).

Developer(+1)

I discussed with staff and sadly it looks like it's not possible to add a Linux build. Oh well, I guess I'll add a linux version in two weeks since it's just a matter of pressing the "build for linux" button in UE :) (although I have no way of testing the resulting build)

Submitted

Ping me if you wish, I’ll be able to test it! And I have a Windows PC so I can still try the game now.

Submitted

So I did try it on Windows and it was totally worth it! The concept is pretty simple yet fun & enjoyable. I was expecting to see some bug with physics or pathfinding, path everything was smooth. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Glad to hear :D

Amazing game!

no bhop, i am enraged.

genuinely tho i think that theres not enough time to do everything, and some customers get angry about not being talked to whilst being talked to.

also when a customer walks into you, you go flying

Developer

Yeah bhop woulda been pretty amazing :)
