In what way does your game fit the theme?
It's a classic throw-back to the VHS days, when returning an un-rewound video tape was a mortal sin.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I developed this Virtual Reality project solo using Unity asset packs for models and animation. Solo work includes: concept design, development, voiceovers, and music.

Made for the OCULUS RIFT or QUEST with LINK virtual reality headset.

FOR THOSE WITHOUT A HEADSET, I have added a playthrough video for you to see the experience (7 minutes viewing in total). Please take a look at the video if you aren't able to play the game and provide your insights/feedback.

THANK YOU!!

I DO actually have a headset... an HTC Vive. I set it up with Steam VR and really tried to get it to work but it just didn't sync with the game and I couldn't control anything. Game looks pretty cool from the video you posted though, I'm sure it's awesome once you can actually get it working!

Developer

Thanks Kilansky, my next VR development skill to acquire is to make cross-platform games. With Unity’s XR input system that should be pretty straight forward.

I don't have a VR headset, so my opinion is based on the playthrough video. I think that the game is great and I liked the humour in it. Maybe the game could perform wonderful on a VR game jam, where more people would give their opinion based on their own playthrough.

I don't have a  VR headset so I can only go based on the images applied. Based off of what the images show, it looks like you have a complete and awesome game. I would LOVE to play it. I am actually shocked to see a VR submission. I think this would probably do well in VR Jam. I am sure they exist.

Anyways, looks cool! I hope you complete your game. When I get the skrilla to purchase a headset, this id first on my list!

;-)

Thank you BlueMarleGames! It's been a fun journey to learn VR development. It's an amazing new way to experience 3D environments. I hope you get a chance to try the games and experiences that are out there. I'll continue to make more and push the VR innovation envelope further. :-)

It looked really cool and awesome. I am sorry I could not play it. I don't have a VR headset.

Could you please rate my game? I know its not right to ask for one after I didn't even play your game. But if you could rate me, it would mean a lot to me.

Developer

Hi AJ, I can play and rate your game for sure. Since you don’t have a headset, could you watch the 7 minute play through and rate my game as well? It’s challenging to get enough reviews for a VR game, so hopefully the play through give enough info.

Submitted

I will most certainly check out the game play. And I will rate you according to the gameplay. No problem :)

I rated your game based on the gameplay. I loved the intro and the voice acting so a 5 star in audio. The visuals were also top notch. However, the gameplay seemed to get repetitive after the first 10 or 20. Maybe its different if you actually do it. But as from the video, it felt pretty repetitive, If you found a way to make it more interesting, it would certainly form a great game.

I don't have VR headset, so i can't play it. But from your video the game seems fun, though a bit repetitive. You could also add that if tape sits too long in rewinder it gets broken, you get punished somehow and you also have to throw that tape to garbage bin.

Developer

Thank Ilya, Yes, a little repetitive, but the pace of moving around and trying to keep the rewinds per minute up makes it a fun task to complete. In future versions I'll add things like damaged tapes, different formats, broken rewinders, and dinosaurs. ;-)

Hi I only have the oculus SDK 2 but no hand controls. Will I still be able to play it?

I still want to give you a review based on the videos. I really like the idea and how it fits into the theme, I had a very similar idea but in the end I used something else.

Great work, I hope VR will pick up again, its fun developing for it.

Developer

Hi RemStorm, this was created using the Oculus Integration (from Oculus), so it may have compatibility with your SDK2. The input for the game is literally the grip button on a touch controller. The integration may generalize that input to what your controller has. You could always give it a try and let me know if that works?  VR is definitely still going strong and I'd encourage you to pick up an Oculus Quest and a link cable. You have both a portable headset and the ability to play higher-end PC games with the one headset. Very good. Also, if you want to start developing in VR, I can give you some advice on where to start and save a ton of learning curve headaches.

Dude.....I really wish I had a headset to play this.  I dig the concept and you had me cracking up during the prologue.  Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you Ohima! It's so fun not taking things too seriously. I'm glad you share my sense of humor, lol

So apparently we made a game with the same name, ahahah.

Not having a VR Headset I could only judge the game through the video. The game itself seems quite repetitive; I think that having different types of VHS and VCRs to handle could have been an easy way to step up the challenge a bit. Despite this, I really appreciated the lore of the whole thing and the sound design of the game, particularly the audio parts taken from movies. Good job!

Thanks for the review Sanjuro. Since this was a solo project I kept the variation to a manageable level, but did think of ways to make the experience more challenging, varied like having damaged tapes that would require you to repair a rewinder and adding BETAMAX or other formatted tapes that would require a special rewinder that’s in a different place or under the table. Lots of great ideas, but limited time to execute a working and polished VR experience.

It's still a remarkable accomplishment that you managed to create a VR game in such a short amount of time, so you can always add those things later!

Submitted

i may have just watched the video but from what i saw it looked repetitive the audio and graphics looked nice tho hard to tell if there is bugs or if it is well designed

Developer

it’s repetitive, but short, and the fact that increasing your speed Changes the music complexity and the types of movie clip rewards AND that the rewinders finish at different intervals makes the short experience fun.

Unfortunately i don't have a VR set to play your game, but it really seems like a fun experince judging by the video, loved the movie references and the Portal like chats with with the cinic AI. Also really impressive work for a 7 days deadline.

Nice job!!

Developer

thank you!!

Wow that play through looks so cool, wish I had a VR headset to play it!

The VHS wars were no joke!  hehe.  Thanks for the playthrough video!  Congrats on successfully submitting a VR game to the jam and I hope you learned a lot of new gamedev skills.  Please check out my game when you have free time :D

Developer

Hi NeatGames, thanks for the review. Yes, I did enjoy the development this last week and applied some new skills I'd recently learned about achievement management systems. I look forward to building on this experience in the future and making it even weirder/funner.

Don't have a vr set, but watched the playthrough. Looks Clean! Great job

thank you!

Incredibly well polished game, and all of the movie snippets were great.

This was actually super fun! Very well polished. I loved your voices and the little audio snippets from movies. I'm going to miss working with Billy Bob Joe.

Developer

Thank you ManzorS, you're hilarious! Billy Bob Joe was so supportive :-)

Amazing job, love the audio and 80s aesthetic. Also, that bloom though!
