How does your game fit the theme?
Storms have caused the ocean to bring monsters to life, as well as the players getting a reprieve between levels to relax.
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
all handmade except the 1 sand tile from GoldenSkullStudios isometric starter pack

how do you get to the battle part
I was stuck with the octopus just constantly saying nonsense at me
"MAKE SURE YOU FINISH DIALOGUE WITH ENTER KEY! Attempting to talk to the octopus again by clicking in the middle of the conversation will break the game. All hub dialogue must be completed with enter to populate the Storm Report in the Satellite UI. Thanks for playing, we can't wait to show what we can do in the post jam patch :)"
Wow, You've got a lot of solid work in with a lot of opportunity to expand. Good job.
It sounds like "Squall Squabblers" has an intriguing concept! I love the idea of building a team to combat pollution while also enjoying some downtime between levels. The visuals seem appealing, but I can see how missing feedback could impact the gameplay experience. Hopefully, any freezing issues can be resolved for a smoother play!
It's a cool game with nice graphics but it was a bit harder with visual feedback missing.
Sadly was a victim of the game freezing. Even with the warning in the description it's really hard to remember switch to the enter key specifically for the dialogue. Great concept though with pretty interesting art. Wish there was some sound, but besides that, very cool project!
Thanks! I can't wait to get that bug out after the voting period!
The interpretation of the theme was pretty unique amongst the games I’ve seen. Even with all the things that might be missing, or broken; there’s an unique interpretation of a pretty open-ended concept. Many could’ve taken it literally, but you went ahead and gave it a twist that I really really like.
In the end, a game without a strong interesting concept, no matter the things it has, is no game at all. And, for a jam, for me, it’s way more valuable than gameplay itself.
Nice game! Besides the lack of visual feedback, the enemy difficulty spikes too high i think. one enemy single handedly wiped out my party. Still, Nice Work!
Really impressive to make a turn-based strategy game for a jam. It is missing some genre staples whose absence was really felt, like movement ranges, more of a UI, unit stats, etc., although you did tell me that a lot of that stuff broke last minute which is really unfortunate. I liked the setting you chose a lot! I took a look at some of your future plans and a lot of it sounds really cool, I hope you can move forward with that.
Thanks for sharing with my stream! Here's the VOD of your game: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2252858600?t=02h20m32s
Yup a-lot of that is planned on being updated right at the end of the jam in the first update for the demo thanks for checking it out definitely planning on continuing to develop the game after the jam.
Cool concept, but I had a lot of trouble understanding how to navigate the battles. More visual feedback in terms of what units still have activations etc would go a long way.
The art is great as well game, but camera can go out of the background. Overoll I really enjoy your game!
thanks so much! I didn’t know it could pan that far haha oops
The art and animations look really nice. My favorite is the manatee. My main feedback is on the lack of UI in battle. Indicators for who can still move and how far would be nice.
thanks! we are certainly trying to get this white move/red attack highlighter on click for post jam
The game looks really attractive and beautiful, there are some bugs which I am pretty sure will get fixed when the jam is over. Nice work!
Thank you! We are certainly trying to get them all, the scope left us with quite a few haha
I like recruitment concept - and I really appreciate dialogue in game jam games, it's quite rare and I think it makes games really stand out. I think some touch ups on the UI could be really helpful though, its slightly unclear what I'm supposed to be doing in battle and in the overworld. Maybe adding audio too? Otherwise, well done!
thank you! UI and audio are the main priority for the post jam patch
Good game, great job, and good luck!
Great concept, I really like the characters and art. Could use more polish on the UI and interactions and I think a bit more playtesting during development. Would have liked to see some work gone into sound, it does a lot to bring a game to life. Overall a very promising start and hopefully a valuable learning experience, keep it up!
Those are all things we are planning on adding and updating for sure as soon as its allowed we just ran out of time it was the first game we've tried to make but we will be continuing to develop it after the game expect to see a update with some of these things immediately at the end of the jam!
Hee-hi. Cool idea. Interesting battles. Thank for help with bug fix)
MAKE SURE YOU FINISH DIALOGUE WITH ENTER KEY! Attempting to talk to the octopus again by clicking in the middle of the conversation will break the game. All hub dialogue must be completed with enter to populate the Storm Report in the Satellite UI. Thanks for playing, we can't wait to show what we can do in the post jam patch :)
Loved the isometric style and grid based movement! Sadly, the enemies won't spawn for me and the octopus just asks what it can do for me. Nonetheless very intriguing, as I am wondering what the octopus, indeed, can do for me!
weird that’s two of those today! I’ll see what I can do about it I’m sure this would be considered a game breaking bug since uh enemies don’t spawn there you kinda need to be able to leave!
We got to the bottom of this I believe. It looks like the Satellite UI which controls mission selection after the Octopus Intro just doesn't show up if you're not playing in full screen! Hopefully you're able to play now, the battles are certainly more entertaining than speaking to the Octopus indefnitely!
Still no luck! After the game started, I just clicked on the octopus. Then the octopus wonders why is there an otter underwater. Then after clicking once more on the octopus, it asks what can it do for me. And that's it.. After clicking again a few times on the octopus, I think the same dialogue "What can I do for you?" Still appears, but the letters are exchanged in order, but I don't know if that is intentional. The menu for the satellite opens, but no missions inside.. I am sorry if I am missing something obvious! Would be happy to try again later as well
in full screen? i hope thats the fix! Also try scrolling that scroll view of the satellite UI a bit to see if you can find the mission
It is in fullscreen! I get stuck just here (the very start of the game).
As I said, if I click over and over on the octopus, sometimes it will ask me the same question, but with weird wording, like:
"O C|T ODPOU SF: O RW HYAOTU ? CAN I DO FOR YOU?"
I can upload an screenshot for you to see, I didn't upload another one right now just to avoid spam screenshots here..
would you mind hopping in a discord call for a minute really quick? it would be super helpful for us since we cant get this to happen to us. My discord is Mr. Clocks in the brackeys server (mr.clocks is the discord account name)
Of course, I am at streaming_1 voice call in Brackeys discord server
Hee-ho. Cool art, but I have issue (enemy don't appear and nothing happens. Octopus repeat one phrase, in beacon is empty)
Oh no! Sorry to hear this, I’ll see if I can replicate the issue today and get it in the patch after voting. Thanks for trying the game!
Hee-ho. Thank you very much
That's a potential game, let's growth together. Good luck!
