Fun platformer, and fun art style

Submitted

level 1 was pretty big, the later levels felt shorter but were nice, each level had different mechanics.
There was a crash at the last level

Great work!

Got a chuckle out of the art and animation :) but atm the sounds don't give much impact when jumping, landing, getting attacked, etc. Still enjoyed this nonetheless!

Fun game got stuck multipule times on level 2 love the character animations

Hee-ho. Good game. Very fun main character

A simple, quick and fun game. Every aspect for a game in a game jam :). My only complain is that, when the enemy attacks, id would have been cooler to have more feedback when he attacks and have the player get hurt when he makes contact with the enemy, not only if he's in the red rectangle.

WOW it's simple but it's really fun. Love how it looks like just regular platformer until the enemy comes raging at you.

The visuals and the music are really well done. The mechanics work very well and the game is very much fun.

A place to start if you were to consider working on it after the jam is if you die on the boss, and reset in either way, the boss's health isn't reset and sometimes the boss doesn't even come in anymore. Luckily you have a convenient level select that helps a lot with this to work around it by just reloading the page.

Nice job on this game!

It's a neat little platformer, I loved the Mini-Taur's animations, but there are some things I'd like to comment on. First, are the platform of level 2 randomly generated? Cause the first time I played level 2 I was just blocked by a platform on top of me and unable to jump up higher. But once I purposely lost all the lives (and yeah now would be a good time to mention that it would be nice to have a quit or replay functionality) and restarted level 2 I was able to get pass it. And then there were these red areas that I initially didn't know what it was, and I was just wondering why i kept getting hurt in those. But later on I saw a VERY fast image of something moving past, and kinda knew it was that thing dealing damage, which brings me on to the point of that thing being too fast. I could barely make out that there was something and had to double check that it was not just a sudden sprite glitch. Finally, I think more feedback of t the game's actions would be nice, like a hit flash when damaged, or screen shake when the boss comes out. Other than that the controls felt pretty nice and the audio was decent!

Cool little platformer! Maybe sound could use some improvement. Level design wise there were some blind jumps where as I couldn't look down, and the red box wasn't really explained very well until I got hit like 3 times by it and figured it out. The vertical section had a lot of bonking which didn't feel great either. Visually I recommend picking a color pallet prior to making assets, as it helps make everything mesh together and you can make it super easy to make enemies and the player in contrast to the background. Overall though that was a pretty fun project. Good job!

The Minotaurs animation was really good and expressive, but the rest of the game was a lot less cohesive and way less impressive. The collision detection was not very clear and I couldn't figure out the point of the game, all of a sudden a semi transparent red square descends and kills me :/

Jamlytics squad  🙌

Loved the minotaur's animations! Gameplay was solid for a platformer and the boss mechanic was very cool. Great work. Congrats and good luck!

I love how dramatic the animation is - and ofc we both know that platformers with 3 levels with the last one being a bossfight are the best!

The one thing I think this is missing is a damage sound for the player and the boss.

Developer(+1)

There is one for the player but we for sure will make it better thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Omfg there is one indeed, sorry lol, I was too distracted by the boss lacking one

the art is super funny and i really liked the overall concept of the game

the camera need some improvements. it moves too much up and down and you can't look down before dropping

with the concept of areas of damage, the ability to hold down to get low or fall quick could help a lot the feel and movement of the game.

and taking damage could be more obvious visually, i didn't realize i lost 2 heart one time.

overall a fun game with a cool concept and style!

The art is so good! Of course I do notice a lot of missing visual polish but it's fine, also one thing to note when using the arrow keys the character does walk just without the animation, WASD works fine.

took me a little to understand that the last level was a boss fight but honestly really good, simple and fun

great job!

Developer(+1)

Can u give a example of the missing visual polish so we can write it down?

Okay here are some things:

  • Squash and stretch could make your animations even juicier especially with your artstyle, don't have to go overboard with it, a moderate amount should go a long way.
  • The boss in the end just kinda appears out of thin air after dodging whatever was being thrown at you, idk if its supposed to crash down or whatever but doing some sort of animation to make sense of what it is and where it came from should help.
  • Some textures like the spikes seem a little too plain and felt a little too out of place compared to the character, i think just outlines like the main character would work well.
  • The hearts could use a little animation (the squash and stretch i mentioned earlier could work just fine)

Also just another suggestion, unrelated to the rest, I think the boss fight could use its own music, cuz at first i just thought it was like any other level, also an introduction of the actual boss before it attacks you, or some way to find out that you're facing an unusual threat

Yea there was supposed to be a cutscene but we didnt have enought time

i actually managed to complete this game - it was good fun, well done!

Submitted(+1)

Nice little game, that probably just needs more polish and difficulty adjustments :)

Developer (1 edit)

U mean like it was hard or easy? Oh nvm its u i know what u mean

Love the art, a parallax background might be nice - and definitely a tutorial would've been helpful, but once you get the gameplay it's very fun :))

Developer

Thanks for your Feedback!

We will look into adding parallax backgrounds and we will definitely add a tutorial!

Really like the minitaur character, and the play on words is perfect. Was fun and actually played to the end.
