The black and white art reminds me a bit of the first Hypercard games for the Mac. Quite a cool Alice in Wonderland vibe you have going on there without falling into the Disneyfied version.
Very atmospheric, and really nails the feel of the Alice in Wonderland inspiration. The characterization of the cat is great. I feel like that comment about things that only *seem* nice is probably relevant here. Also when I saw that it was made with RenPy I was worried it was going to be more visual-novel-y, but no, you actually made a full puzzle-based point-and-click game in RenPy. Neat!
Shame you couldn't get this finished in time; I want to see where it goes.
Very nice! I like the cute and simple art style, and the narrative is intriguing. I found it slightly strange that you could sometimes see the character and sometimes not, but it didn’t take away from the enjoyment. Nice job!
There are obviously many interesting worlds to discover. Whether behind the mirror above the fireplace or at the bottom of a well. But considering the name of our protagonist, these two worlds may not be all that different after all. One can only hope that the butterfly queen is a little less hot-headed than the red one. :)
The side scrolling could be a bit faster, but otherwise no complaints from me. This has quite a nice atmosphere. Kind of dreamy, with just the right amount of unease mixed in. The black and white look with specks of blue works wonderfully. Excellent design choice. I'm looking forward to paying an extended visit to Wonderland.
I really like the narrative, the dialogues had a lot of personality. The atmosphere was also very well done. Good job!
Very cool Alice in Wonderland type story. I either got stuck or reached the end of the demo (the castle area). Had fun making voices for the characters on stream, and overall nice writing. Seemed to be a tad buggy at times, and the point and click system used isn't my favorite kind of point and click, but that might just be me. I think it was the mouse wheel that would bug out the game a lot since it seemed to make music and dialogue go backwards. But overall really nice game!
Thanks for playing! I just saw the VOD of your stream. You were pretty close to the end, getting through the castle door is the last thing in the demo. I'll probably go back and try to make some of the items in that area a bit clearer.
The mouse wheel rollback was default with Ren'Py, but I didn't realize it would affect the music as well; I'll just disable it. Thanks for commenting, and for the stream! Seeing a playthrough definitely helped me notice a few more things I can probably make better.
So well written and atmospheric. I really like the tiny usage of blue in the black and white locations. I don't think it needs any other colors :) I especially liked the frog, the way it changed color from the environment to your inventory. Each little character had its own unique charm. Very logical puzzles and it felt rewarding piecing them together, having some idea of what to do with each item as I acquired it.
I almost found the text a little hard to read due to the font, mainly the curls on the lowercase 'y' kept telling my brain it was a 'g.' The audio that is present is delightful, yet almost felt a little too empty at times. The side-to-side scrolling felt a tad sluggish, and when my mouse went outside of the window it didn't scroll at all, slightly immersion breaking. All in all, this is a very polished submission and a delight to experience. Best of luck continuing the project!
I really enjoyed playing this! Intrieguing story and a cute art style! Also loved the music. The puzzles are straightforward and fun. I agree about the river location, it wasn't clear that we come from the right, maybe seeing Alice on the right side of the river would help.
The atmosphere and the story are great. The art style is also very nice. It’s in line with the wired Wonderland theme.
The progressive complexity works well. Maybe, it’s a bit too obvious how to solve the first locations. For the intro, it’s quite enough, of course. At the start, I was mainly enjoying being dragged into the adventure. But if you plan to continue, maybe you can consider adding a bit more of a twist. Like, elements that are not used in the same scene but later on in consequent scenes.
In the location with a river, it wasn’t immediately obvious where you came from and how to return back.
I would actually love to travel more through the woods and explore isolated locations there. It felt so interesting that I really enjoyed returning back there to bring the flowers from the town. I didn’t find the last flower, however :(
The town was also nice. Maybe, you can improve it if you make it less straightforward what characters need in order to sway them.
The menu and save system looked handy but weren’t particularly useful at this point.
Looking forward to seeing what’s in the castle :)
Extremely charming writing and world!
Just played this as well it got me curious about what happens next and wanted to keep on playing it, I think at first I got confused with the controls i.e. i was clicking to walk then realised I had to wait for the screen to scroll but once I realised it was fine.
I also have to agree with the limited colour pallet a great choice.
I really, really enjoyed this. I absolutely adored the limited colour pallet, and I think the sort of shaky line-art really helped with the mystical and unusual feel to the world Alice finds herself in. The puzzles were fun and I think the dialouge and characters were really well written. I sometimes find myself getting bored with games with a lot of text, but I was completely engaged with this one. I could probably spend another six paragraphs going over other things I loved with this game but I'll wait for the full version to do that lol. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the full game when it releases!
I played this and really enjoyed it, although it doesn't take away from the game, I'd love to play a colour version too tbh!
Great writing and fun, logical puzzles. Your art is very expressive and cool, I'm excited to play the full release!
awesome game! The black and white art is impressive, it does not interfere with the gameplay. The narrative is engaging and gave me a great immersive experience. I like point and click games and I made time to play and appreciate this one! congratulations! keep it up!
This was really cool! The puzzles were closely knitted with the right amount of humor too. I liked how each character had a distinct tone. I wonder what the flowers had to do, I guess I'd have to wait for the full version :) I'm not sure if this is a bug but the first time I played, for some reason the butterfly zoomed away and Alice didn't stand up, however I wasn't able to replicate it. It was fine after I refreshed the game.
