The feeling of flying with the buildings, layering of the foliage in front as well as nice lighting detail and unique pixel style makes this a pretty memorable experience.  I think it's really well done and you did a great job on this game!

Submitted

The music is so chill, and vibey, it's definitely a "mood" this game

so  I survived until the end, hopefully you can add a fullscreen option and give it a bigger play window when the jam ends and you are allowed to update it

The color palette is really great, and the art assets as well! Overall a pretty good competitor in this jam, it's too bad it's so small =/

Good art! You can play my game if you want: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966

love love love love the art!! the color palette was sooo gorgeous i love this general aesthetic so much and it fit the lofi theme and the music well! it was really nice just flying around, the animation was super satisfying. the music was lovely and i like how it faded in more as you collected more of the cassettes :] i do feel like it wasn't that visually clear that the map was underwater, so the buoyancy thing took me a while to get the hang of, but once i did i thought it was a pretty creative interpretation of the theme :]

Thank you for your feedback I'm happy you enjoyed the game. I appreciate your thoughtfula dn positive review it made my day!

I think there was a little problem with the screen resolution. My game started super zoomed in and cropped so my screen didn't look like yours in the screenshots.

But luckily I discovered I could fix it by zooming in with my browser! I was able to see a lot more around the character and play it :)

Love the pixel art, the detail of the hair flowing in the wind, and I liked the idea of a modern witch flying her broom with earbuds in. Very interesting concept in general that could have some interesting world-building to explore!

Congrats on your first game jam! It turned out very nice!

Developer

Thanks you for you insight I definitely wanted to do more in terms of world building but had to be very considerate of my current skill level lol. I've definitely have gotten a lot of feedback on the resolution and will try and work on it in future updates after the jam.

Please check my game as well.

Developer

I very love the art and the vibe! First I didn't really saw the connection with the "aqua" theme until I read the description :)

Developer(+1)

Yes the connection isn't very obvious, I was trying to aproch the theme in a different way. Thank you for your input.

Submitted(+1)

Gameplay is relaxing, like the art style, I can't really understand the connection to the theme, but on the other hand, nice job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I was trying to mske the mechanic of moving up and down correlate to things floating or sinking in water depending on its weight relative to the weight of the water; It's not a perfect science but I tried,

Submitted(+1)

Gameplay is simple but the vibes were amazing (and I also love anything witchy)! I could easily see this as a wallpaper engine wallpaper if you slowed down the movement and just relax to it!

Developer(+1)

Hey, I learned something new I didn't know about Wallpaper Engine, thanks for the info, Im glad you enjoyed the game.

Side Note: anything witchy is a great vibe for me as well!

The art and ambient sounds are nice! A little bit of vertical parallax effect would probably make flying even more enjoyable.

Developer

I agree, It would be nice to be able to fly above the buildings, and see the streets. Thanks for the feedback!

Cool take on the theme, I enjoyed the descriptions on your page 😂 Art and music are great, although I think you need some more background or ambient movement when things go up/down. Overall a cute little game, nice work :)

Developer

Thank you For the feedback! I totally agree ambient movement would be a great feature to add. I'm glad you enjoyed the description!

Nice game! I really liked the art and audio. Good job!

Developer(+1)

thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I can only judge the game by its top left corner because i cant see much other stuff but the sfx are good and the art is cute, i really like the style. Not that bad for a first game jam.

Developer

Thank you! I'm sorry you couldn't see everything.

I think you covered the feel of the game you wanted perfectly. The sound effect when picking up the cassette tapes is so awesome and satisfying. The game definitely has a lofi vibe and excellent art as well. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.

I love your pixel art !

Very good pixel art may it was available in full screen Congratulations for your first game jam.

Developer

Thank you! Yes fullscreen is something I will work on after the Jam.

The backgrounds and foregrounds were really pretty. I slowed down to check them out multiple times. Once it got going, the music was super chill. The sound of cicadas or crickets buzzing gave it immaculate 'summer at dusk' vibes. Aesthetically this was a joy to play.

I don't think it was worked like this, but it did kind of feel like the music got louder and more instruments were layered on as I collected the cassettes the first time I played. Could be a nice sound/mechanic through-line.

I would have liked either a counter to see how many cassettes I had collected vs. how many were left, or remove the flying illuminati monster so I could just vibe out collecting them and enjoying the scenery. I just couldn't tell if I was doing well, and I couldn't fully relax and enjoy the art because the monsters would come out of nowhere from off screen. The only time I 'won' was when I just floated in place listening to the music.

Developer

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. I was thinking of having it as an endless runner type game with no enemies but I was worried without a danger element it wouldn't be good enough as a game. With more time, some features I'd like to  add would be a menu, track selection, type of gameplay, and different locations to play in.  I'll also definitely consider  showing how many cassettes are left to collect in a more chill version of the game.

It looks promising but something is off when trying to play the game. Updates are forbidden during voting but you should try to fix the size on the itch.io page which I believe is allowed.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback I will see what i can do I just tried to enable fullscreen and test it but it did not work as I had thought.

Loved the music/sfx, really added to the atmosphere of the game.

Developer

Thank You!

this seems so beautiful but in the web version it seems the play fullscreen is not there and when the game starts it seems i can barely see around the witch, it seems to be getting cut

Developer

Sorry to hear you were having problems with the game. I'll try to address it in a update.

Submitted(+1)

I think itch has an option for a click to open fullscreen button

Developer

Ok thank you I'll look into it.

Developer

I added the ability to play in fullscreen now
