I am in deep despair

Hi. I am in deep despair now and do not know what to do. My best composer, who worked since 2015, left due to health problems. In general, I lost hope for my project. I came up with a prequel, and did everything myself: I wrote a really cool plot for the prequel, but while I am writing the main part - nothing is working. I can not create a team for the project. I absolutely do not know how to do anything except write plots ... How hard it is for me, as if everything is in vain! Who needs my stories if I can not release them into the world? I want it to become a game, but I am just a student from Moldova, where game design is something unreal. Education here leaves much to be desired, we are almost not taught anything, and in the end we just get a diploma without knowledge. We have to study everything ourselves. What should I do? How to turn a plot into a game? Where to go? Who to contact? Where to look for help? I do not even get support on funding platforms ... I do not know what to do...

hello I hope you can feel better!

Hopefully everything works out. You can always use an easier game engine like RPG Maker to start turning your plot into a game.

That's a tough one. I've had the same thing happen to me for SlashCore/BloodBlade. It's 4 times now. All I want to do is make this fairly small sports game, ahhh gee.
Anyway - Unreal is a beast to work out by yourself. Tutorials on YouTube may help but sometimes there are things that, you need assistance with.
For me, I love creating stories in my head too, but then trying to convey the idea to a programmer can be really difficult.
Sometimes they get the idea. Sometimes they don't. And sometimes they deliberately do the wrong thing, and then expect to be paid. So now, I'm going to do the hard thing and - essentially give up looking for programmers. I'm going to use GKC asset in Unity for maybe - 3 more projects, and then I'm stopping my game dev ventures (might get back to it one day).

So do the writing part. Learn Twine. Heck, get some free asset packs and learn Ren'Py. The hard part is turning them into a story. Come to think of it, learn to make vector art. Pixel art. Voxels. ASCII. Raytracing. Anything that can help you express your ideas, or at least teaches you how to work with artists.

But mainly, since you're a writer, work on your writing. Worst case, you can write a book. It can be a TTRPG! And in recent years there have been at least a couple of acclaimed games in the form of a fictional Wikipedia.

Too many game developers only have ideas. You're way ahead of the pack. Take advantage of that.

You should take some break first, play games you like preferrable the one with same genre as the one you're going to make.

Then after your mood is good, answer this simple question: who will work on your dream game? you or someone else? you're free to choose but each choice has its own consequences.

I am grateful for your answers and advice, thank you very much, I was very depressed yesterday but woke up in a better mood

I've checked your posts on the Help Wanted forum and, yes, you do have a big task ahead as you basically need a whole studio!

Obviously you'll have to devote a lot of your time to recruitment. I don't know how much you're doing already but maybe finding the right person and asking them individually is one idea. Checking out game jams, for instance, is a good way to find people who want to get into game dev more seriously,

You might also need to reduce the scope of your project and work with you've got or can realistically get (for instance, can the game designer do the level design and UI too? Do you really need so many artists? Can you get the audio you want from open source assets?.

Anyway, good luck and hope you get the game you want!

Thank you very much, I will try to do everything in my power.

I’ve been in a similar place—feeling stuck with great ideas but no team or resources. What helped me was breaking the vision into smaller steps and using tools that handle the heavy lifting. For example, I used Phonexa to automate outreach and track responses. For your game, try Twine or Ren’Py—they’re perfect for narrative-driven projects

It's tough losing your composer and feeling stuck, but your plot-writing talent is a huge asset! Don't despair. Start small by turning your prequel into an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) like a visual novel or interactive story using user-friendly engines like Ren'Py or Twine—no coding needed. Learn basic game design online to better translate your ideas. Then, network www mcdvoice com intensely: join online game dev communities (Discord, Reddit's r/gamedev), look for local tech meetups, and offer collaborators shared revenue for a portfolio-building project. Your initial steps, however small, will attract the help you need to bring your stories to life.
