I have done math and have the overall rankings. This is based entirely on YOUR RATINGS and is NOT my final ranking. This list determines which 21 games me and Ms. Toasty will be streaming. There was a tie for 20th so it is actually 21 instead of 20! In addition to these top 21, me and Ms. Toasty also each picked out 1 additional game that looked interesting to us to also play. So, in total we will play 23 games! I will only give the Toasty Rank to these 23 games and only these 22 games are now eligible to win top 3 for prize money.

Games highlighted in bold will be streamed. So many incredible games joined this year and I truly mean that. I will be giving every game its moment in the spotlight in the video I make covering this event. I hope to do that until this jam grows so large that I cannot. However, I only have so much stamina for streaming, thus this is our final list.

In honor of transparency, the score was calculated by adding the totals of each category, plus I added a small modifier to slightly penalize games that had more ratings. This was in an attempt at fairness to games with less reach, but even with this modifier the order did not change at all. I'll keep working on this for future jams. Lower scores indicate higher rank and are thus better. It was a close race, but be proud of yourself for finishing a game in the first place!

You are allowed to use content from older projects, you just can't have created content specifically for this game jam prior to the game jam starting. So yes, you're welcome to use that plugin.
Also no, a playtester doesn't count towards team size limit. Get as many people to playtest as you like!

Oh my mistake if that wording is confusing. The theme is just underground and that’s the only thing you have to abide by. I based the theme on my own game but you don’t need to be inspired by my game at all! Up to you.

Been getting a number of questions on this topic so I’m going to try to give a blanket answer:

This is an RPG Maker game jam, which to me means the “vibe” of RPG Maker in the base engine. This means top down, pixel graphics, somewhat rudimentary gameplay systems, on a tile system, etc. However, RPG Maker can be modified in a lot of ways to do much more than this, which makes it hard to allow other engines. But I’m chill so I will allow other engines with the following limitation.

IF YOU USE AN ENGINE THAT IS NOT RPGMAKER OR RPGMAKER ADJACENT, YOU MUST EMULATE THE BASE RPGMAKER STYLE OF GAME. You cannot use another engine and make like a third person shooter and say that is emulating RPGMaker “with plugins”. You must stick more rigorously to the basic RPGMaker vibe when using another engine, if you can do that then it’s fine. Feel free to join the discord and @ message me with questions or concerns if you choose to do this, or ask on here.

Totally acceptable to use your library of music so long as none of it was created specifically for the game jam prior to June 7th. If it’s old music, go for it!

If you follow the proper instructions from the asset creator then yes. It is on you to ensure assets are properly credited / are legally obtained. 

If you are making assets SPECIFICALLY FOR THE GAME then those must be created during the jam period. If you just want to use existing assets, like art you made for another game or a paid tileset, in your submission, then that is acceptable. Anything specific to your entry (besides concept art or brainstorming) must be done during the jam period.

As long as you own it (or have a license to use it) it is fair game! Good luck to you and your daughter!

All is well so long as it adheres to the theme! Deck based might be hard in the engines allowed in this jam, but if you can do it, why not! I love seeing people get creative and push boundaries.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, we now have prizes for 2nd and 3rd place as well! This results in a total of $200 in prizes!

RPGmaker likes to completely break when the refresh rate isn't "normal". I'm not sure if there is a way to bypass this or to turn on that setting by default. I'll take the blame for not knowing how to code a solution tho. Hope you still enjoyed the game.

The only thing I could think of is that the game doesn’t run on Linux, so if you’re trying to run it on that it won’t work. Additionally, make sure you’re extracting the files from the zipped folder before you run them!

To summarize, I enjoyed this game. I think it did a lot right with the atmosphere and writing, and that intro is without a doubt one of the absolute best intros I have ever scene. However, while playing some things in the moment threw me off. I wouldn’t say things like the desk pushing puzzle or the seemingly rapid pace Kat experiences mental decline inside of the fairly normal looking door ruined the game for me, but they weren’t ideal, especially the later scene. While looking back on that scene now I find it more passable, in the moment I was confused on what the tone of that scene was trying to be, and it felt kind of unearned when Lat had her mental breakdown in the elevator. That might just be me, but I figured I’d let you know! Congrats on having a successful launch, and best of luck with your game!
