A must play demo. The full game cannot come fast enough. It's main inspiration is on it's sleeve, but it already feels like it is becoming it's own being. The slide alone is a fun new mechanic. HIGH HOPES for the full game now.

Had some fun with this one! Short but warrants multiple play throughs. Has that addictive "I'll get it next time, just one more try" element. Hype Mantis is HYPE! Graphics are a bit rough, but the control is smooth, and the bookshelf is tiny.
It was like a modern remake of Berzerk I didn't know I wanted but now am clamoring for more. I urge you, if you made it this far, download it and get the hashtag #syscrusher making its rounds on social media. I want more adventures of the Syscrusher!
Appreciate you checking it out. Definitely needs polish. It's amazing what little things like death animations and transition screens can do. Might be a few weeks before I can get back to the project, but I think there's something here in this seed of a concept that could be fun.
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, there are a lot of things I didn't get working/fixed in time to get something submitted. Things like enemy AI, idle animations, timing right in the "chugging" metal riff when shooting (likely the noise you are refering to).
Oh yeah, a whole heaping ton of polish! heh. I really fell in love with the concept of a metal based parody of old Konami titles I loved as a kid so will definitely be coming back to this one. Thank's for playing!
Thank you so much for checking it out! It's less "forgot" good gameplay, and more rushing to get something playable submitted. When I signed up for the jam I figured I'd have time to work on it each night - but that was before I got cast in a play so it was a fight against time to get something done as most nights were now spent in rehersal. Aaron at greatgigguitar.com had recorded some great music already so I thought it would be a shame not to get something playable up so that it could be heard.
At first I thought I was missing something about respecting the signals then realized there were really just checkpoints to reach. Once that sunk in I had some fun with it. Definitely satisfying to thwack the enemies away with the signal light weapon.
I'm always a sucker for side scrolling shooters :) Actually, my entry "Dude Blue" started off as a run-n-gun but ended up changing when I started having fun just rolling around the screen. Perhaps my next jam... anyway, enjoyed your entry! Makes me really want to start playing around with Pico-8.
Thanks for checking it out! Agree, the controls take a little playing with to get used to for the more precise jumps but I found it gave the game a bit of a different feel so left it in. I'm glad you stuck with it long enough to enjoy it!
BTW - While time got the better of me before I could add in a Game Over/Restart screen or Checkpoints, I did leave in a cheat on the Title Screen where you can press "2" to go to Level 2 and "3" to go to Level 3.
