Anything you want to say to players before they play?
It's a rough playable of the original vision. Will definitely flesh out after the jam. Worth checking out for the music regardless!

Good start! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)

There is a good concept but it needs improvements.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that a video of one of my playthrough/reviews is up and you're a part of it!
Take a look here:

Pretty short and sweet.  The emenies really didn't seem to do much.  The game got a little noisy in spots, maybe it's an audio sync issue?  Not sure.  Overall, a neat little thing.  The ending... SOrt of looks... wrong... Like... um... anatomy?  Kind of hilarious!

Great work!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, there are a lot of things I didn't get working/fixed in time to get something submitted. Things like enemy AI, idle animations, timing right in the "chugging" metal riff when shooting (likely the noise you are refering to).

Looks like a really nice concept!

The graphics and audio are the strongest parts, and both work very well together. The music is great.

I found it quite frustrating to understand what was happening at first - insta-death when you are hit by an enemy; and it goes right back to the title screen without explaining anything.

Similarly, there is no feeling of reward for killing enemies as they just disappear off the screen.

The jump mechanics are very "floaty" and feel a little clunky.

I don't think this game would take much, just a bit of polish, and it would be great fun.

Developer

Appreciate you checking it out. Definitely needs polish. It's amazing what little things like death animations and transition screens can do. Might be a few weeks before I can get back to the project, but I think there's something here in this seed of a concept that could be fun.

The strongest sides of the game are music and style I LOVED them both. As for the rest I would say you did not really polished them up. I understand that in game jams it's easy to forget to create good gameplay too (which i guess is missing in my game as well) but it is very important to have .

Thank you so much for checking it out! It's less "forgot" good gameplay, and more rushing to get something playable submitted. When I signed up for the jam I figured I'd have time to work on it each night - but that was before I got cast in a play so it was a fight against time to get something done as most nights were now spent in rehersal. Aaron at greatgigguitar.com had recorded some great music already so I thought it would be a shame not to get something playable up so that it could be heard.

This game could use some polish, but it's a really cool idea. Metal and Contra make an awesome combination. Nice guitar work. Looking forward to playing the updated version!

Developer

Oh yeah, a whole heaping ton of polish! heh. I really fell in love with the concept of a metal based parody of old Konami titles I loved as a kid so will definitely be coming back to this one. Thank's for playing!
