How does your game fit the theme?
Research and scan mutated fishes in the abyss of a radioactive sea. The deeper you dive the crazier the mutations become. But the more interesting the mutation, the higher the reward...

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
100% Code selfmade. All the assets are HANDDRAWN and scanned. The only exception is the sky and the buttons due to time (link to assets provided)

What an experience! Great work!

The idea that  you have to scan different fish is very unique and fun! I also really liked that you could get different upgrades depending on your playstyle.

There's a whole lot to this, which is pretty cool. Lots of things to see under the sea, and a cool random upgrade system. I appreciate the depth meter on the side, and the effects when going too deep were a very obvious sign to turn back.

I didn't see any upgrades for the scanner itself, which would have been welcome, but its possible that I didn't play far enough to see them come up randomly if they are in there.

Developer

Hey! Thanks for the great feedback, gonna check out yours tomorrow. Yeah the number of the upgrades are also a downside. There are just 2 many to encounter. There are upgrades for the Scanner 4-5: size, speed, lenght... But in ca.50 upgrades that just is not enought. 😅

Very good game. Core gameplay and progression play with each other well and keep engaged, not to mention that the core gameplay is really novel. I would suggest two minor adjustments - two little cherries on an already delicious cake, that by no means really needs them. Both are related to sonar:

1) I dont's see any visual representation of the sonar's source, and as far as I can tell, the sonar always keeps its local rotation to the sub static when not used. So whenever I start using it, it appears on a seemnigly random side of the sub. Together with a pretty slow (initial? I suspect it might appear in the upgrades somehwere down the road) rotation speed - which is fine by itself - it gets a tat annoying at times.

2) Compared to all the other art in the game, the sonar animation just feels draft-y or placeholder-y. As with 1), doesn't really hinder the experience.

To conclude - brilliant job!

Developer

Thank you so much for the very conclusive review! I apprechiate it. The sonar... is 100% a placeholder. xD Also it is not very visible and very small on a screen where allready many thinks are happening at once. I didn`t take the time to make it fit to the surroundings. Gonna check your game out soon.

I could not stop playing this game! So much fun exploring the deep and chasing down fish. The random upgrades were very cool.

Design is good

Very nice! I really like the progression. I am amazed by how polished this actually is. And I like the art! Although I realize it was probably a Stylistic decision, I found the font a bit difficult to read. Also, the controls (to me) where a bit strange, I would expect the W key to propel the submarine forward, i.e. if I'm turned to the left it would make it go to the left, but that's just me. I got used to it after a while. I really like the progression you did with the "Vampire Survivors"-like upgrades. Good job!

I really liked the game and its really cool how many upgrades you were able to add which definitely helped me continue playing for longer than I would have otherwise. I will say one bad part was that I was super confused at the start for how to find the radioactive enemies, I also found a bug where you could end up getting over the level and going into space which was pretty funny. I also love the art style, its always super cool and impressive having the hand drawn assets and this is no exception. The music is really good and I remember bonking into something and there being a sound and visual effect that made me laugh out loud which is pretty rare for me. Anyways great job on this game!

Congrats on your submission R3dleg! I can see how the idea of our games are similar. I was partially inspired by a childhood game I played called Treasure Seas Inc. I used to spent hours and hours playing it . Your game reminded me a lot of it and brought me a nice memory :)
