Inverted stealth game where, instead of playing as a sneaky thief, you step into the shoes of a security guard tasked with protecting valuable artifacts from intruders. Needs a touch-up in the user-experience, but it has all of the elements of a well-developed game waiting to be unleashed! I could see this turning into a really solid game!

Detailed Review

=========================

[ + + - - - ] :: ENJOYMENT

I saw so many cool game mechanics that I felt like I wasn't able to fully enjoy.

I loved the idea of setting traps for the ninjas, but I had a hard time knowing if/how they would help me at night. I didn't feel like there were any clear predictors for me to rely on the traps.

I felt like I was using my ears more than my eyes; listening for footsteps, and not knowing where they were coming from; just frantically hoping to find the ninjas. If I saw the UI prompt to click I clicked. I wish the spotlight felt more mechanically useful. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I had nabbed a ninja or not.

I also wish I could have turned boxes over, or something because there were times I saw a ninja get under a box, then waited for them to exit (without the spotlight on). It cost me time that I could have been using on patrol.

Perhaps you could lower the difficulty, or buff some of the mechanics.

[ + + + + -] :: CREATIVITY

Great job on the creativity! A reverse stealth game with Ninjas infiltrating a museum! Loved the concept. I couldn't give 5 stars because I felt like there could have been an extra dimension of creativity that contributed to a more memorable experience.

Perhaps there could have been a narrative element; like the ninjas were stealing back ancient relics for their homeland; or that the museum owner had pissed off the yakuza, and they wanted revenge. Just some ideas. Maybe more about you, the player, too.

[ + + + + - ]  ::  PRESENTATION

Liked what I saw, good animations and lighting. I didn't see anything outstanding, but it's no small feat to have an animation and sound associated with each object and action in 48 hours. I almost withheld another star for the lack of clear feedback from actions, but I think that was punished enough in the Enjoyment section.

This was a fun concept to explore, I'd be curious to see how you would expand on this concept. Are you planning on continuing development after the jam?

Developer

Thank you! I have ideas how to improve this game with more traps that you can buy in daytime and additional mechanics that thieves can use to distract you. It actually was planned on the jam, but after first day, I realized that I don't have time for that.

I like this game. It looks really good and seems fun although I couldn't play for long because of performance issues.

Developer

Sorry to hear that performance issue ruined your experience. Thanks for trying!

I see that you used pre existing art, but the game looks really good. The lighting and shadows really sell the idea, it was nice to look at. The game was also fun! I liked the limitations on how much of the museum I could see, the shadows also did work into tricking me, where I thought I saw someone but it was just a shadow. You managed to inspire some paranoia and uncertainty, as if I was a real security guard. Good job! I just wish there was a little more auditory feedback, the games really quiet and it feels a bit empty.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and kind words!

In the nighttime there is an ambience on the background, but I tried to make it quite to make player hear the footsteps of the thieves and sound of closed trap to help to orient in the level. But you right the audio balance need some polishing.

Nice game, cool idea actually :)

Developer

Thank you! :)

Cool game, looks nice and plays smooth! Nice work!

Thanks for playing!

This game is well made and quite hard actually. I didn't got super far, but it made me play a few times to get the hang of it!

Developer

Thanks for giving it shot. Could you describe why it was hard for you, anything specific?

Submitted

Could be just me tbh.

I was searching for them and could find them sometimes, when I couldn't I heard a sound and within seconds it stated I failed. Took me 4 tries to get to the burger lvl.

Developer

Sorry, that it ruined your experience. It should be not so hard on the first level, and nobody before in comments doesn't report it.

Some tips that you could miss:

  • When the thief appears, your light spot is making short blackout. It means in some room the thief is presenting.
  • Even if you in the room with the thief, it could hide in the nearest box when you getting near them. After you leave the room on some long distance the thief will leave the hide box too and try to steal the treasure.
  • If you know that some one in the room, you can fly away for a few secs and then return to it and try to catch the thief when they move out for a long distance from the hideout.
  • When you very close to the room when the thief is hiding you can hear his footsteps if he doesn't hide in the box.

So, the main goal to patrol the rooms and try to find the thieves when they far from the hideout.

Submitted(+1)

It didn't ruined it at all! I still had fun :)

Good to know about the short blackout, was wondering what blackout meant in the instruction and thought the short blackout was just some flikkering.

I did notice the box, it's a nice touch!

The same I thought about the footsteps as the short blackout/flikkering, that it was just a nice aesthetic

Ah yes. The hamburger traps. Brilliant!

Developer

Glad you like this idea :)

Very nice game! I enjoy the music and the look of it, and the gameplay loop is fun. I love the day night mechanic.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive! And more impressive when I noticed in the comments that it is a solo game! Congratulations on your game!

Developer

Thank you, Isabel!

Nice game ! Cool concept and fun game (specially the burger xD) ! Congrats to the team !

Developer

Thank you! I made it solo :)

The burger traps are phenomenal.

Developer

It was difficult to come up with any normal and noticeable object for a trap. But the burger was more fun, so I used it instead :)

Submitted(+1)

Hey cool game and a great take on the theme! It's was fun trying to keep an eye out for the thieves. They are pretty sneaky hiding in those boxes and eating those burgers. One improvement might be if the day shift time was more just a paused stage where once you are ready to go to night you just continue. The first time I was rushing to figure out where to put my trap before the timer ended. The next time I had time left over so would have rather just skipped.

Overall though very awesome!! Good work on this!!

Developer

Hey, thank you for playing and for the feedback! I tried to calculate time in order that it would be not very long. So even if you finish early it will not so long. But I agree there must be just skip mechanism I just didn't have time to implement it properly :)

Really fun game! Great replay value - great job!!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Now this museum is in hamburgers. :P
I think, this game is so realistic. Simple controls and lots of fun.

Developer(+1)

Hah, you made your own art installation :D

XD

Great game! Looks nice and great idea. The problem I had was that the camera movement stopped working after like 10 seconds so I missed a lot of thieves.

Developer

Wow, that's unusual, never get such problem. Did it happened 10 seconds after night is started? Did you try to restart the game and did it help?
I doubt that this is the case, but I inform you that the level has boundaries beyond which the camera cannot fly.

Submitted(+1)

Small and simple game with a lot of potential. Plays smoothly and fun. Well done.

Developer

Thanks man!

Submitted(+1)

Was very silly game, enjoyed

Developer

Glad you enjoyed the game :)

Submitted

I can't play it because it's too graphically demanding :(

Developer

Sorry to hear that, I didn't have time to add settings menu with graphics quality toggle :(
Could you share what your pc configuration please?

(+1)

Very fun overall. Having to purposely look away to bait out robbers is really fun. Only thing is maybe put a limit on the amount of hamburgers you can place. As the nights go on the game gets easier as there is no reason to not just spam hamburgers everywhere. On the final night the Museum had more hamburgers than robbers. Also maybe allow movement with WASD. using the mouse to shine a light on the thieves is great, but its kind of awkward to move my mouse everywhere trying to get to all the rooms.

Developer

Thank for the feedback! It was all planned, but I didn't have time to implement it properly. For the burgers I just limited the daytime, so you don't have much time to place too many burgers :)
