Did you use any third-party assets or skeleton code?
I made EVERYTHING during the jam

I love the mechanic of your bullets turning into enemy bullets, that's really clever. This game is simple but really fun. I feel like it could have benefited from some variety but other than that the game is pretty solid and well put together. The audio really matches the visuals too, well done.

Developer(+1)

For the audio you should congratulate softmagic, he made it

For the variety thing, I didn't have time during the jam. But I may return to the game after the rating period ends

Submitted(+1)

Yea that's just a product of game jams, time is too short haha. You've put together a great game though dude, well done :)

I love the retro vibes that the game transmits, the music and the art complement each other perfectly. I found the mirror mechanic very curious, it gives a lot of gameplay. Congratulations!

Developer

Thank you! The whole idea was to make it have "limited misses"

my first ideas was that the walls would get angry, but then I thought for the mirror mechanic, which i had to add in the game

The music was a good fit with the looping gameplay and I enjoyed dodging and shooting at the same time. Didn't realize I was losing health at first, so maybe a sfx for that could help?

Appreciate the narrative setup in the description and nice work making all the assets/code!

Developer(+1)

Yeah about that...
Sfx was in the game, but when I added the music it would just blend in with the music and make it annoying. I should try anyway in some update to add that

Submitted(+1)

I did 12688.

The game is cool, I love the music, the gameplay loop works and this is a fun implementation of the theme, I also really like that the ghosts go faster as you play, it makes it much more of a complete arcade game loop.

Well done.

Why thank you for the kind words!
my best score is 28061

The game has nice music and a charm in it's simple graphics. It's a fun mechanic and an interesting premise, but my concern is once you've figured out the projectile and ghost speeds, you miss less, while it also becomes too easy to predict the reflected shot. This could lead the game's fun to diminish as you improve at it. To mitigate that you could give the player a reason to use the haunted mirror, maybe reflected shots can be aimed at power ups, or maybe you need to aim the reflected projectile it at the ghosts in different stages - well there's lots of ways you could go! It would be so nice to see it expanded a bit more. Thank you for sharing :))

for sure I should continue the development, the game is pretty nice. Thanks for the ideas, the power up collecting thing is pretty smart.

One thing to tell you tho, ghosts get faster over time, but maybe it's too slow to understand

Submitted(+1)

Wow! The mirror mechanic was a cool idea

Developer

I know! From the start the idea was to make the wall do somerhing when you miss, but the first plan was to make it angry. After that, the idea of the mirror came to my mind: a cool mechanic that would create chaos. So or course I implemented it and ditched the other idea

Fun game! Was a little bit easy though :)

Developer

for that don't worry, I will continue it after jam. And I may add some boss fight too (;

Submitted(+1)

Fun one!
Original central mechanic, nice music, easy to imagine this game scale to a few more enemies/pattern variations :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! It seems like this jam was a success, since the only feedback I get is "to expand this more"! And I sure will expand this after the jam, but the scary shadow of final exams is too close and I might have to pause gamedev for a while

Pretty fun, easy game my son and I  enjoyed. I liked the tune, and the intro as if it were running on an old micorcomputer. well done!

Developer

Well for the intro, it's not made by me, but it's the engine i'm using, tic80 (https://tic80.com) which really set ups the austhetic  of the old computer, which all the games made on it follow. If you have time and energy to try it, i really would tell you to check it out!
glad you enjoyed the game and say hi to your son from me!

A great, bite-sized game with a solid central mechanic (I might be biased as a fan of bouncing bullets :p)! I would love to see this expanded upon with more enemy types or difficulty progression. But great start!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Tbh, as of difficulty, the ghosts get faster over time, but the transition is smooth and unrecognised. but still, I was thinking to continue the game after the jam, and a new kind of ghost was in my plans, but I kinda sorta didn't have time on the weekend, so I just... Didn't.

Submitted(+1)

Very neat concept, this one I'd like to see expanded on

Developer

well it seems like a lot of people like the game, so I may update it if I get time, cuz final exams are coming and I won't be able to program on the duration

Submitted(+1)

A simple game, I like it. Maybe after the game jam you can put in some explosions and particles, more enemy types are also welcome. I liked the mechanic that your shot bounces back as an enemy shot at you.

Developer (1 edit)

Actually, from when I started making the game, my concept was "limited misses" and in the start it was supposed to kill you after some misses, but it was too boring, so I made the mirror mechanic, so it's a real bullet hell. Maybe I should update the jam page because I wrote the theme wrong (I wrote the theme was limited movement, but it was limited misses)

Submitted(+1)

I really like the idea of the mirror bouncing back your bullets so your accuracy is important. The game could benefit from some kind of progression or win state because just watching the score go up isn’t enough after a couple mins.

Developer

hmm indeed maybe I should make something like a big boss fight and turn infinite score into a mode instead of just the game
