Cool game! Some additional variation and this is a real solid TD! Had fun aiming for the balcony as well! Whenever I tried to grab two books the controls would glitch out. Maybe something with my controllers though.

Developer(+1)

Several people noticed the same bug, so probably not you or your equipment. In my trailer I also tried to throw two at once and they just sort of plopped down with no velocity.  I'll research it more. Thank you for playing! =)

Sadly I couldn't play, the tracking for the HTC Vive didn't seem to work. I tried each build. Looks good tho xD

Developer(+1)

Thank you for giving it a shot, I had another player that had difficult with the HTC vive. I created the 0.1.6 to try and help, but didn't get to verify.

Tower Defense without towers but with books :D I love the concept and can finally let out my inner aggression towards ghouls and books. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you! It was a lot of fun to make, I'm looking forward to improving this one with some more options. Thanks for playing! =)

Was fun to play :). One could think of some little pimping of the game, though. Like the bigger goblins need more damage to be killed or certain goblins beeing immune to certain books etc. but overall a nice idea.

Developer

Totally!  HP and damage by book type is a definite must add. I appreciate you commenting and trying our game! =)

Jam Host(+1)

Well put together! I would've probably liked to see the throwing changed up a bit. Maybe pulling the trigger conjures a random book, and releasing the trigger throws it. It was a bit much to need to turn around for each throw.

Developer

Definiately a good idea to look into.  We kept it that way due to the theme.  We need to move that bookshelf to be more in front. It was troublesome in playtesting, but ran out of time. Thank you for playing and providing feedback! =)

Really decent good looking tower defense game! Nice job

Those ignorant goblins definitely need to read more! Check out my bookshelf!

Read this! Words to your Face!  Thanks for playing my game =)

Well put together environment. Fun wave defense! Great work

Developer(+1)

Thank you! High praise considering your game as well =)

Hey, thats a fun little game !

I too encountered the "two at a time" bug as others have stated out. It wasnt a problem tho because now I could throw twice as many books with just one hand XD

But, I would have wished for a bit more variety in terms of gameplay.
I think this could be expandable into a tower defense kind of game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for kind comments!  More variety would be fun, levels, difficulty ramp, more spells, perhaps teleporting to different areas.  This also helps with gauging reception to see if should take it further.  Thanks for playing! =)

What a great gameplay mechanic!  I thoroughly enjoyed throwing exploding books at goblins.  Thanks for making this!

Amazing game, the music and fast paced action made me do a few runs.

It was a bit hard at first, until I understood I could litterally empty the shelf besides me and throw book two at a time, really felt good!

I ran into a little bug (not being able to throw the right book if I had picked one on the other hand, maybe it has something to do with still holding the other grab button?) but nothing that hinder the fun.

Great job!

Tested on occulus rift and 1060 3go.

Developer

I'm so glad you liked it!  Another found the two at a time bug too.  Thanks for giving my game a shot =)

Open XR build fixed issues for me on Steam/HP G2! Game looks great and gameplay is fun for a quick round. Did notice an issue where if I pick up 2 books, I have to throw them in the reverse order I picked them up, or they won't release. High score is currently 21 :)

Developer

Thanks for giving it another chance! It wasn't too often I grabbed two books, but I think I noticed the same thing.  I wonder if thats a me bug or the XR Interaction Toolkit preview bug.  I'll look into it more.  Thanks for playing =)

Really liked the assets used for the game! Just throwing spellbooks combinations to waves of enemies is satisfying yet makes the gameplay a bit linear.  Appreciated if more level exploration was fostered for the player to explore with VR interactions. Good game!

Developer

You can technically leave the boundary and float around and still grab books from a fair distance away.  I think if we were to expand it, we would add perhaps a chill walk around and interact, a few different maps, and self activated wave start.  Thanks for playing!

Definitely a recommendation to try that game - It's a lot of fun!

Pro's:

  • Great implementation of the art!
  • Throwing books felt very good and I only smashed one piece of furniture in my home
  • Soundtrack is banging
  • Simple and well put-together mechanics

Points to Improve: (Keep in mind this is a game jam entry, so there was limited time to create it)

  • The frantic turning around between the shelf and the balcony made me a bit dizzy. Maybe you could move the bookshelves to the left and right of the player. (If you press backwards on the right stick you make a 180, so essentially there is a fix for people using virtual turn!)
  • Not a biggie, but maybe a button to start the waves, so that the player has time to get used to the books and throwing mechanics on start
Developer

I'm so glad you liked it!  The backwards on a right stick is a must.  We did identify that could be an issue during play time, but ran out of time.  I'm thinking the next iteration we put more bookshelves around the room (front 180 arc) so you summon them from across the room to use on the ghouls.  That way you don't turn away from the action.  Also maybe a more exponential curve and enemies that have health bars too. Thanks for playing! =)

Super clean, love it!

Seems like there's no controller tracking on steamvr with index

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for giving it a try.  I went into unity and checked the OpenXR plugin and created a build that way.  Mind giving it another go? I don't have the vive to give it a try myself. v0.1.6 is the updated copy.

Nice! The updated build works for me
