This was a great original idea and—perhaps unusually for very original ideas—it was well-executed to boot; sound, graphics and particularly the animation were all very good. I think my main niggle was in the intermittent responsiveness of the dialogue choices and the swiping, plus maybe one or two UI scaling gotchas (I think the About screen not having a close button, also not sure if the bottom of the dialogue bubbles was meant to be cut off at the bottom of the screen?). But they're all pretty minor stuff and the game as a whole oozes character! Great work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'll see if I can get to these minor fixes in a little while to shape it up post jam

Really fun idea, the models are good and the kaiju portraits on the phone were great to look at :) Having the date be in a destroyed city was a nice touc!

Thank you for updating with the windowed version, this is the entry I was most looking forward to trying out!

It is everything I wanted it to be and I won the heart of every Kaiju in town.

For anyone wanting to play the game - download the "LetsSmash_windowed.zip" version and you are good to go a Kaiju dating bonanza πŸΈπŸŸπŸ›πŸœ

Fun dialogue, lovely Kaiju dates, the whole jam package is here.

p.s. sometimes it is hard to swipe the photos but don't worry it will work after a few tries (or maybe it is my mouse playing tricks on me!), think of it as extra date anticipation time

Developer

thank you so much! And good job on impressing them all!

Hey, really original game the idea is nice and dialogue cute :)

Sadly i had several issues:
- ui button on the phone aren't usable apparently

- the "LetsSmash.zip" version of the game only open like on the screenshot and break all ui. Like the windowed version works better maybe you should only show this one

Other than Ui which could be fixe / more interactive , the game is a good idea ^^

Developer

Thank you! The original version only works if your conputer can show full res. But if you're on a smaller computer you can play the windowed version.

The phone works like tinder, so you have to pull the monster picture either left or right with the mouse. The "buttons" only indicate which way to pull. With more time we could have probably made this more clear with design. Sorry that it confused you

My screens are 1920*1080 resolution so it can show it full size (like you can see with my folder open in background of the screen shot) but apparently the game just go in square window without even the full screen button available. If you haven't had the problem on other 1080p screen, maybe it's link to the fact that i have 3 monitors ? maybe it don't know how to atc ?

Yeah i have find that it was using the sliding system but i was just confuse about button ui which don't act has button ^^'
But yeah i understand that in the time frame some aspect need to be cut. Great submission ;)

Love the concept and the game but checking through other player's playthrough's I noticed that I'm only able to date the first character. I went back and realized that the outfit determined who I could/couldn't date which while nice I thought was a bug because I wasn't told the choice mattered. Maybe there's a nicer design introduction saying "Choose your profile outfit" in order to convey that the choice influences the outcome vs it just feeling like a character creation screen that is less involved than it actually is.

Also using the windowed version, I wasn't able to close out of the "about" screen without closing and reopening the game itself.

Developer(+1)

thank you! We planned on showing a profile picture being taken etc to show the connection, but time ran out.

I completely forgot to adjust the about window in the new version. Thanks for telling me!

Hi, it's a very interesting and original idea haha. I like there is multiple choices when talking, but I only managed to get dates with Minimon and the Yeti looking one after multiple times playing. I'm guessing there is some rng involved and I just got unlucky? I think Minimon showed up once when I picked the Yeti so I thought that was funny if intentional, not looking like her picture, but on subsequent tries I only got the Yeti when I tried matching with it again and when I picked the actual Minimon image option in the matching part the dialogue still said she don't look like the picture even though I think she did. I'm not sure what's going on there. I'd recommend extending the area where you can click and drag to cover the whole monster image because I had some problem figuring out how to drag it because I was clicking too low on the image. Also was there a way to exit the "About" section? I clicked on it and got stuck there and had to exit and relaunch the game to continue. I was using the "windowed" version.

The writing was pretty funny and I enjoyed the cityscape and scurrying humans as well. How long did it take to design the monsters?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thank you so much for playing! You get matched with different monsters depending on what you wear.

(Beanie - Ice cubix, beard - Godzulta or Evolutor, green hat - Belsebub, bowtie - minimon)

This should have probably been made more clear, but we ran out of time πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ.

I forgot to adjust the about section in the wibdowed version, so apparently the close button doesn't show. Sorry about the bug!

I got a monster finished an animated in about one night, so they took most of the first week

Ooh, I didn't realize that the outfit served an actual purpose, I thought it was just fun cosmetics haha. That's a clever way of doing it even though I never realized the connection.

Very original, interesting concept! Like kaiju models, sounds. And it's really cool idea of using a crumbling city like a place for date.

I absolutely love the concept. I was able to play it with the newest upload. The Creator was also quickly responsive. I thought the dialogue was very fun and cute. I love that you have to change different thing to get the match. Just like IRL haha. Legitimately a very funny game, love Belsebub the most. Could easily, and likely will, see myself playing through many possible variation just for the dialogue.

TLDR; Fast and fun game. Would recommend for the dialogue :)

Developer

I have updated the game so that those who had problems with the aspect ratio can also play now. Just download the windowed version

Not sure what the issue is but the game opens in a zoomed-in square window for me and cuts off the game's controls. Can't even see the "Exit Game" button it's cropped so closely :/

Developer

it's built for 1920x1080. I will build a separate version for those with smaller computers as soon as I get a chance. Sorry

Submitted

I'm running it on a 1440 monitor so that shouldn't be the issue. It definitely opens in a window much smaller than 1920x1080 on my machine though. Very odd.

Developer(+1)

That's super weird. I've tried it on 5 different computers without any problems. But I'm working on uploading another version now.

Submitted(+1)

I also had the same issue with the original build, on a 3-monitor setup with the primary being 2560x1440 (smallest screen is 2560x1080); don't know if that helps shed light on why.

Windowed version seemed to work fine, though.

VERY ORIGINAL! Really enjoyed playing it for a bit, hilarious conversations. The background cries are a really nice touch.

Submitted(+1)

I thought the writing was hilarious, the ability to be able to select different kaiju's through the phone was brilliant, and also having to wear different clothes was a nice touch! I loved it cause it's like a commentary on dating but at the same light hearted and fun XD

Great writing, models, and game. Loved the Sofubi nature of the Kaijus!

So cute, I love all the art and funny dialogue choices!
(P.S. Is Belsebub single?...Asking for a friend...)

Developer(+4)
