Bomberman + Memory card games

What was the size of your team?
Just me

How did you incorporate the theme?
To be honest I thought the theme was the genre mashup, I totally missed the 'reusable' thing.

Resources used
Kenney's free assets for most of the graphics. I made the music.

Nice submission! I think you could make the things a bit more interesting if the cards are positioned on the fly according to the game progression. For example, it was pretty frustrating to just try to get the pair for the first card to start moving the player, when you could give that for free (whatever card the player picks, that's the right one).

Also the movement is ok to me but the size of the grid and/or the colliders it's a bit confusing (sometimes I had to try to see if I fit or not on some path).

In overall, it's a nice game, congrats!

It's pretty dang interesting! But I think it suffers from not seeing the cards at the start. Not much memory to it if it's mainly wild guesses for the most part. I like that you have to clear cards to move forward as people have said, but I also gotta agree that the movement doesn't really fit a bomberman game. Good stuff tho!

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

I've actually never played a memory game where it shows you the cards at the start, interesting! Different experiences hehe

And everyone has said that about the grid-based movement not fitting Bomberman, but... call me crazy, the original Bomberman games ALL used grid-based movement! Maybe it's the fact that I'm not showing the actual grid that makes it feel different? Either way, I appreciate the feedback :)

I've played bomberman quite a bit and so I was interested in the idea of mixing it with another genre.

I got the hang of the memory game aspect quite quickly, and it was a cool idea that you had to use that to clear the path. I know there isn't a true ending yet, but even so the objective is unclear. I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to kill all the enemies using the least amount of cards, or to clear every card and every enemy, so if you plan on expanding this I think that should be explained better.

Also, the grid based movement doesn't really suit bomberman, since you need to quickly move out of the way once you've placed your bomb. Finally, while the music was well made it began to be too repetitive which distracted me somewhat, but it wasn't too much of an issue yet as there is only one stage.

That said, I think this idea seems very promising if you were to expand it further. Well done!

Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! I did put a note right beneath the play area that you should just 'try to clear all the cards and enemies' but you're totally right there's not any objective at all, I didn't give myself enough time on the project :)

A few people have said that about grid-based movement, but.... unless I'm crazy (and all my googling in response to these comments is wrong)-- at least the older Bomberman games totally used grid movement. So I can't say I understand that, but maybe the newer ones don't and that's what people are used to now :)

I think that's a very good take on the theme! Once I made a bullet hell + memory for Ludum Dare, memory games are kind good to mash with other genres :D

With some polish it could be a very solid product, really! As you are a beginner (as you said on Twitter, hah) - that'll be nice to make use of that game and develop it a bit more. For example I would add particle effects and some screenshake when you match the cards - that adds a lot!

Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback, I really appreciate! I'm tinkering with a few small projects while I'm learning, this is definitely on the list of potentials for turning into a full game :) I will gladly take your advice on the additions! Thanks again.

Fun and creative game! The character movement is weird, though.

the control feels weird but overall its a very good game :D 8/10

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah the collision on the objects was making movement difficult due to the card flipping. I fixed it as best I could before the deadline :) I appreciate you playing! I'll check yours out soon.

This was a fun random idea!! wouldn't have thought of mixing memory with bomberman! xD  I liked the music too -great job! :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

yay thanks chase! I was worried the music might be annoying since it's such a short loop, but it was like 4am and I was scrambling to finish haha.

I'll check out your entry tonight!
