TY for the review!

Holy crap. I checked out a bunch of games for this jam and this is my favorite. The music is sooo good (is that a real guitar?) but I wished there were more sound effects.

First stage:

So great! Controls were nice and snappy, I liked how you can't go left and up at the same time! And the stream looks so cool. Such a nice gameplay mechanic.

Second stage:

Amazing (I liked first stage a little more though xD)! I liked how the music changed pitch, though it reset every time I died, became a little repetitive. Maybe a little challenging but I found it fun (Reminds me of getting over it)! The log was a pain to get past though lol.

PS: The sprites didn't really match the feel of the first level, maybe make it more blocky?

Third stage:

Nicely done boss battle. The AI was pretty good, but at times the bird was just spazzing out. Maybe it had epilepsy? Anyways, liked the second phase of it, the little bird darts are a nice touch!

All in all, really well made game. Only 72 hours? You are great man. With a little more polishing and changing of the sprites, you could make a great game!

Again, the music was out of this world, but maybe you could ask your artist, (or yourself) if he/she could make a different sound track for the boss battle.

Anyway, 4.9 out of 5 stars!

Nice concept…. The controls were unique and it was fun to play with… The tadpole level aesthetics were very pleasant…

Couple of Pointers:

  1. Game Feel : The sudden change from tadpole to frog felt rather abrupt and it felt like 2 different games merged together… I really thought in the 1st level on right side there is kinda an entry point looking thing, so the tadpole could have gone from there and emerged into this new world… Even though this violates the One Level Condition, it still makes it continuous…

  2. Game Juice : Some particle effects would have been great, alongwith some sfx…

  3. Improvements : The charging could take less time, and a predictable path(you know like you have in the arrow games showing where your arrow is gonna land) for the frog in 2nd level would be good additions…

Nice concepts… Keep it up… Would love if you play mine :)

Enjoyment: At first, I was kind of off put by how the first level came across, it just seemed like I couldn't quite control the tadpole and make it go up, but then, I found a really smart and interesting mechanic that you put in, the "stream" that you can ride made the first level really fun once I started really playing with it.  I think this idea on it's own is worth exploring, a platformer where you can't jump, you have to ride/surf on streams,  The way the combat started working became really fun with this idea in mind, so that was cool.  Definitely could've used some way of figuring out when I could shoot (which was present in the second level, so it just needed to be transferred over.).  The level itself felt like it kind of wanted me to go to the left, But there was nothing there for me and I couldn't for the life of me platform so I gave up going that way.  It feels like you should either put another stream there or just remove it, created confusion.

The second level felt a lot more polished and had the more standard mechanics implemented.  I actually liked that I kept my attack in here, and quite enjoyed the implementation of the hop mechanic. Just seemed like the second level was way more refined.  The platforming was very difficult at first but you could sorta intuit it after a while of playing, I don't think you need to know how far you're gonna go, and you did provide a bar so you can repeat your moves, just think that the charging should be WAY faster.. It was really boring waiting for it to charge up, felt sluggish.  Other than that, it was fun.

Concept: The concept of evolution was great I thought.  Just having a big shift in gameplay half way through instantly kept my attention for longer, and it was nice to switch it up.  I guess it could've been more interesting to be able to switch between your states to be able to use the different movement abilities in the level, but that's besides the point, it could've just helped with that limitation for the jam.

Presentation:  The presentation felt quite dark and foreboding at the beginning, the audio was kind of at odds with the presentation, it didn't feel as calming and winter nighty as the music suggested, but the music was a treat to hear, even if it did become kinda repetitive after a while.  THe clashing of art styles felt like it removed from the cohesion of the piece, which is understandable if the art was all just found and put together.  The presentation wasn't a strong point but definitely passable!

Use of Limitation: I don't think this was really abided by, since it was about one level, not one evolution or just anything more broad.  There was technically more than one level so I can't really rate it for having that.  Unless you can somehow convey that this is all part of one level though, it just seemed like it wasn't.

Great Job, especially if this was ur first jam!  A lot of people don't even finish it, and you even had the foresight to add checkpoints!

i thought the music was stellar, your brother did a great job on it, thanks for sending me the link to this. like we talked about on stream the controls were a bit rough due to the camera position but i was happy when i was able to get through it all!

I took some time to understand the keys and possible attacks, but the first level is ok. This takes us to the second level (limitation achievement = failed), which was frustrating, to say the least. Controlling the jump, birds coming from nowhere, one bush in a very narrow place... Someone went overboard, and start adding all the ideas it had for the game :D I got the idea that you are new to this so don't worry! It is still a nice 'first' project! A plus, I liked that you remembered to use the scientific name for the amphibians. I wished I had had that idea :p

Developer

Yeah, my brother suggested a lot of stuff so I kind of just did it lol. I had the plan to make a game like this from before the limitation, but I really liked it so when it came out, I kind of just shrugged my shoulders and did it lol.

It's an interesting one! But I have to say it's a bit hard :D

In level1, I don't know whether I can shoot so I died so many times. Maybe adding a time bar like level2 will make a difference.

Developer

Yeah, makes sense. Actually, I added a shoot indicator, but I deleted my UI and had to redo it, so I forgot to remake it... Yikes

Cool game! You sorta made more than one level though haha! Also the frog's slide is a bit too much and you should probably tone it down a bit. Well done anyway!

Very cool and chill game! :) Good to see you ate so many cookies! 😊

so the limitation was one level, and you had more than one...

the first level was good, it felt challenging and i kept at it had fun on that first one

. then the second level was frustrating, the hold the mouse to jump thing was not done well, like you could of added a path to show me how high i can jump, plus very difficult, tried like 10 times before i gave up.

sorry for the bad review, but like i said i enjoyed the first level! not the second one...

Thank you for trying it a third time! I do appreciate it.
