1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

I'm Kyle ,

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I didn't.  I only started learning programming a few months ago.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

My favorite games include Cave Story,  most of the Platinum game series, and RPG's like the original Paper Mario.  So naturally I'm making visual novels.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I've played around with Renpy, but haven't completed anything yet.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Stories!  Especially with LGBT characters!  I am an absolute Lore Whore and story nut.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Create a fully playable original VN/Adventure game.  Or at least a flushed out demo.

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

I'm (at this point only formally) a CS student and I normally work with Kubernetes. Also English is not my native language and I'm trying my best, but sorry in advance for any language mistakes.  They're not a result of laziness.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I've never participated in any game jam before.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

My favorites are the Mass Effect and The Witcher trilogies (yes, both as trilogies, I don't count Andromeda). But I won't use them for inspiration now, because I want to keep the scope reasonable :)

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I've once made a game as a student group project, using Unity. The game itself was barely playable, but making it helped me discovered how much fun game development can be.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Music and music festivals.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

To finish a small game on my own.

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

You can call me Pseud. I'm 22. I have ADHD. I'm terribly nearsighted and currently have no glasses, so reading is very squinty right now and I don't anticipate being on the forum very often.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I joined this jam because I'm a bit bored, I'm having trouble holding myself to self-set deadlines, and I want to finish a creative project to get that sweet, sweet dopamine and validation.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I've sampled so many games that it's hard to say what exactly inspired me to make one for myself. It's kind of a cumulative effect from thinking games are neat since I was a kid. The games I've stuck with and/or keep coming back to include the Animal Crossing games, almost any Legend of Zelda games, DDLC, Minecraft, Bioshock.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I've tinkered with Python and Ren'Py before, but never made something meant for other people to play. About as far as I've gotten before is making a shark trivia quiz in Python, and sticking my childhood scribbles in Ren'Py for "teh lolz" (as I'd probably put it then).

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

I'm not sure what I'm passionate about because ADHD hyperfixations come and go so quickly, but a pretty general theme is video games. The current aspect I'm fixated on is that video games are a medium, not a genre, and that some of my favorite games come from matching up themes and mechanics that aren't expected. Kind of like fusion cuisine, I guess?

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Reach into the void, pull out a game that is finished, and put it on Itch for other people to play.
(+1)

Hey, just signed up for the game jam :)

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?
Hi, I'm Melanie from Germany. I have a background in IT but never have done game developing or similar. In my free time I like to draw and paint (analogue and digital) and have lots of story ideas. I did some Unity basic coursesbut have near to no idea what I am doing :D

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?
This is my first jam, I like to have a timeline for creating a game and get some feedback.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?
I love horror games (Layers of fear is epic) but also like atmospheric walking simulators, puzzle games and Point&Click. Firewatch did inspire me but also e.g. Caligo and The First Tree.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?
Just really (!) basic experience in Unity with Playmaker.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!
I love to create stuff (writing, painting,..) and
to convey feelings and emotions with athmospheric animations and fitting music.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?
To have a functioning small game :)

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

I'm Mark :)

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?

I joined because I need to learn Unity for an internship I'm beginning in about 2 months, and I work best under pressure and in a community.

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

I think my favorite games are Animal Crossing and the Lego Harry Potter series :0 but it's mostly games from developers like Porpentine or Brianna Lei that I find inspiring!

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?

I have no experience, unless you count using GameMaker for a Technology Student Association project when I was 11 :^)

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

telling stories!! also pretty colors!!!!!!

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

To get a handle on what Unity is and what I can make with it, as well as improve my modelling skills in Blender 3D and learn how to use both software programs together.

Hi there!

1. Im David

2. This is my first time really participating on a game jam, by participating I hope to finally upload something I made online and hopefully receive feedback on how to improve.

3. I really like 3D platformers, and even more if they are collectathons (my lifetime favorites, and it may sound a bit dumb, are Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom (the original, not the remake), Tak and the Power of Juju, Starfox Adventures (not a 3D platformer), the whole Spyro triology and some other silly games I used to play on the GameCube such as Scooby-Doo Night of 100 frights and such...).

4. My only experience on GameDev is on Unity mainly focusing on scripting with C#, basically I'm a beginner trying to learn bit by bit along the years but never had time till recently.

5. Besides videogames, I really love reading books (mainly fantasy or classics). My favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien and Patrick Rothfuss. Also I love learning new languages (at the moment I only know Spanish and some Japanese but I'm also trying to learn some German).

6. My goals for this game jam are to finally publish something even if it's kind of broken and by doing so, get some feedback on how to improve for my next try and obviously have some fun by participating.

Good luck everyone!

(I'm a bit late for this thread but hey, better be late than to never arrive)

Hey fellow late-introducer :D

Just wanted to wish you good luck, I remember how hard it is learning to program but it's so worth it in the end. You'll do great!

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?

Hello! So "Team Shave" is made up of me and my boyfriend ([Sh]ell and D[ave], see? Hilarious I'm sure). We're pretty nerdy and both enjoy learning new things, this seemed like a fun way to spend some time together.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?
No this is the first time for both of us. We're joining the jam because deadlines help to stay productive, and also because it's just more inspiring to do things along with other people! This jam specifically because we're beginners and most others sounded a bit scary ;)

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?
I love games that are a bit more chill, puzzlers and story-driven experiences. Anything that gives you a sense of exploration without requiring mad gamer skillz. He loves Metroidvanias, so we're going to try and meet in the middle somewhere for our first project together!

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?
We're using Unity for this project because it just seems like an easy platform to get started with and has a solid helpful community. So to that end, I've been learning the basics of the engine for about a month. He's only been learning Unity for a couple of days, but has released a game once before (for the Spectrum Next, of all things!). That said, we're both coders by trade so a lot of the concepts come easier to us than to a lot of beginners, plus I have graphic design experience and he's a talented writer.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!
I suppose there's no point saying gaming here, since that goes for all of us. But it is a shared hobby and we really enjoying "playing" together even if that means one of us controlling a single-player game while we both give input on where to go or what to do next. Other than that, I'd say a primary passion for both of us is making things, and learning new skills that help with making things! Various crafts, woodwork, 3d printing, we tinker with all sorts of things really.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?
Honestly just to have a fun time creating something together and learn some new things. Game-wise I suppose the goal is to have a completed project that is very small scale but reasonably polished. Bonus points if it makes us laugh.

1:  Hi there I'm PotatoJezuz, formally known as StabbyJoe1228.  And I'm late! lol

2:  not last jam but I was here in the 2018 summer jam, I made a  little game called The Scenic Route. I plan on doing everything better this year and expanding into 3D for a change. I want to start doing game development for a living so I'm hitting up all the game jams I can to get practice in.

3:  I love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, mostly Call of Pripyat. I like Kerbal Space Program. I've also grown quit fond of Company of Heros, lately.

4: I've been making games on and off for about four years now. I've really only used the Unity engine. I tried UE4 for a bit but I just felt more at home in unity. You can see what I've published here. (hint it's not much)

5: I love to sing, I love Astronomy and all things space! and of course I like video games.

6: I want to Improve my workflow, and generally get better at making games.

7: Failure is the best way to learn. Don't feel bad if somebody say's "I don't like your game because [fill in the blank]" if you find their point is valid, then avoid doing that in the future. Else it's not valid, then tell them you're sorry they feel that way. Also, your first games probably aren't going to be good, that's okay, my games STILL aren't good. but don't let that get you down! one of these days we're gonna make something to be proud of! just you wait.

9: see question #2.

1. Hiya, online I go by LadyMurasai, but in real life I'm Brenda S. My skillset is in character design, but I'm taking the time to learn how to code.

2. I didn't, so this will be my first. Going into this jam with the intention of finishing a game and telling a story.

3. Fan of classic JRPGs (FF9, Breath of Fire 4, Suikoden, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon, Mother, Chrono Cross, Xenogears...I have too many favs.) Influenced by Xenogears and FF6 when it comes to storytelling, Legend of Legaia/Legend of Dragoon/Chrono Cross when it comes to combat, and Persona 3-5 when it comes to graphic design. Ultimately, want to create my own though.

4. I don't have much experience in game dev, so I'm starting with learning on RPG Maker (tinkered with it when it came out on PSOne so it was natural to attempt some progress on pc).

 5.  Creating is my passion. Its what drives me.

6. Finish or have a starting point for a game that I would love to have done to completion.

Another late introducer i see, nice to meet you Brenda!

Hi! I know it’s a bit late to reply to this introduction post, but I figured I would anyways! It’s a bit long, but any feedback or advice will be immensely appreciated :)

1. Hi there! What's your name? Want to introduce yourself?
For my game development presence, I’m known as Rodulane, a name I came up with a while back for the game Wyvern, but I plan on using it as my alias for my “professional” game projects.

2. Did you participate in the last jam we held? If so, what do you plan on doing better this time? If not, what's your reason for joining?
I have never participated in a game jam before (this is my first), and my reason for joining is to motivate myself to make a game by being part of an event like this. I’ve wanted to work on making games for a while and have recently been learning to develop through Pico-8, and it’s been a very great experience so far! (As such, I plan on developing through Pico-8 for this jam).

3. What games are your favorites? Did any of them inspire you, or made you want to make your own?

My favorites (which I highly recommend) are Hollow Knight, Celeste, Stardew Valley, Fran Bow, Oxenfree, Circa Infinity, Circle Affinity, Ecco the Dolphin, Terraria, Wuppo, A Dark Room, Wyvern, Data Wing, Thumper, Severed, Bastion, Wave Wave, Million Onion Hotel, Vignettes, Atomik: RungunJumpgun, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery,  Continue?9876543210, Oquonie, Rule with an Iron Fish, and Rymdkapsel.

Each one of these games receives my highest recommendations, especially Celeste which is what introduced me to Pico-8 development. Each game mentioned has influenced me in its own unique way, specifically making me lean toward game development in the minimalist yet psychedelic game genre. I’d like to make something that catches people’s eyes but still has a rich story that is open to be interpreted but that doesn’t have to be interpreted in order to be draw into it.

4. Do you have experience with game development? What did you do/with what engine?
I have minimal experience in game development. I have much experience in coding and storytelling  but lack much experience in artwork and music.
Over the past week or so, I’ve worked on learning how to use Pico-8, my current engine of choice. The restricted environment it provides really helps me not feel overwhelmed by the game development process, and the community surrounding it is undoubtedly one of the best communities I’ve ever been a part of.   My goal with development for Pico-8 is to test many, many smaller ideas and then once something worthwhile sticks, I plan on using another engine to expand the game’s capabilities for it to reach its potential. By developing through Pico-8, I think it’s easier to not accidentally “overdevelop” the games, just because there’s so many restrictions.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

I love “relics of the past!” Although these things are out of my era (i.e. I didn’t grow up with these things since they fell out of widespread use way before me), I’m very passionate about things like Typewriters, VHS, BetaCam, etc. I also love classic bands like the Beatles and Pink Floyd and sort of wish I was alive during those times (but the time we live in now isn’t terrible either!)

Part of what I’m currently studying in university is electrical engineering and product design, and I really enjoy thinking about how I can incorporate “old technologies” into newer ideas. Perhaps this passion will incorporate itself into my development of games as well.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

To make something! Doesn’t have to be the greatest thing in the world, but something that gets me to work on my game development skills and inspire me to keep on creating. And if I meet a few other aspiring game developers too that support me along the way, that’s a great bonus too!

10. Bonus: Got any question suggestions? Let us know for next year!

Maybe ask something fun like “if you had to replace one item that you use regularly with something that was used regularly ‘back in the old days,’ what item would you switch with what?”

Looking forward to being part of the marmalade jam!

Nice to meet you Rodulane!

Wow that’s very nice especially for doing all that on your first day! Also, not sure if you’ve heard of Pico-8, but it’s a Lua-based “engine” (technically a fantasy console) that’s also on option, if you still want to try Lua. Also, very nice job with your Aseprite graphics, it’s a great program that I have, but I really should use it more often...
