WEB Game Test

LAG Problems

Do you have some optimisation for a lot of object in the background (like ECS or its default Godot OOP)?

When new scene loads I get lag spike 1.5-4sec (to fix this I had in mind some transition to preloaded loader & splash image).

Menu lags: When scene changes & has to load 1st time lag spike.

I didn't like city much but

ice biome is very-very good (more of this style).

Game has some potential ... -> ... speed focus instead of primary focus of collecting coins.

If goal of the game is <speed> ... -> ... add some PPs (Post Processing shader effect) like:

radial space distortion + speed lines which has speed animation based on your character speed (more speed == faster).

Think I dislike is: for me to turn around & dont know the direction (possibility of jumping out of designed path).

If character dump into wall: speed is lost & there is no user feedback ... -> ... this resolves into the feeling of lag

Very interesting sound at start has some tempo +1, maybe focus song during the game to macth character speed?

Solid Jam

What a review! Thank you so much! I completely agree, we were scrambling the last two days for optims to make the web version run better.

Developer

Actionable criticism like this is extremely useful, thank you so much!
We hadn't tested the web version until the second half of the last day (learned my lesson on that one!), so we are lucky that we were able to get it going at all. If I were to do it again the scope would be lowered or load separate levels as separate scenes instead of culling previous and future levels like it does now lol.
We did manage to get Occlusion Culling and the previous levels to cull as you progress through the levels, which was enough to get it playable but we ran out of time before we could do anything more. I'm not sure how much ECS or OOP would improve things since most of the game is played on the player script, but if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them!

I love the idea of speed lines and more user feedback! User feedback should have been a priority and will be for my future projects! I fear I let down Mr Sakurai in that respect.
We have a score system that we couldn't quite get working completely before the jam ended, sadly.

Thank you so much for playing!

That was a super enjoyable game! Only able to get through two full biomes but seems I had much more to do next time I try!

Developer(+1)

o7 Thanks for playing MrBuscemi Sir!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words and for playing! Hope you come back to play again soon!

Absolutely insane amount of content here for a jam, well done! Unfortunately it kept crashing my graphics driver (AMD) but I was able to play for a little while. The logo is awesome, and the music and sound are a perfect fit. Crazy work on this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, we tried our best! We kept having ideas and wanting to add more and more, but had to stop adding and start optimizing! Sorry about the crashes, it is a miracle that we were able to get the webgl version working at all lol. The logo and all the 2d art was made by Bistro, it blew me away when he showed me the logo lol, I'll pass on the compliment! The titlescreen/credits song I actually made on the last day of the jam during the super crunch lol so it could have used a bit more polish!

We appreciate the kind words! Thank you so much for playing!

Developer

Also! Pyro made the city songs and all of the SFX so I'm sure he will be excited to hear the appreciation!

Developer(+2)

TYSM, if you ever swing by try the downloadable version as it seems we did indeed seem to reach the limit of what opengl can do in terms of assets in memory / size. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

No, actually I did try the downloadable version and that's what happened. Might just be an AMD quirk, but also nbd because jam games just be like that. Still thought it was fun!

Developer

Noooooooo!!!!!!!!o

The levels are so fun and rich! Awesome entry.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! We put a lot of time and thought into the levels! Thank you so much for playing!

Submitted(+2)

Amazing visuals, and the gameplay was also very fun. I can see this being a full game!

Developer(+2)

We will definitely be doing some post mortem updates once the jam is over, so hopefully it will be closer to a full game! It was a labor of love! Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words!

Submitted(+2)

Very nice! I love the graphics

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it! Our team's strength is definitely visuals! Thank you so much for playing!

Submitted(+2)

Despite the hiccups and lags, the controls and gameplay felt good to play.
Very cool :)

Developer(+1)

It definitely struggles at times, but I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the issues! Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words!

first, this game is awesome. now, the camera should be cinematic in this game, i should not have that much control over it when im supposed to go so fast and turn sharp corners, bouncing off of pins in all directions. however, the presentation in this game is incredible, the music and art is amazing, the gameplay itself is also slick af and so much fun, the level designs (except the very tight ice level) compliment your moveset perfectly, i got to the pyramids and its such a fun playground but i had no idea where i had to go lol, it felt like i tried everywhere. i had lots and lots of fun with this game. banger entry.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked the game!

I made the Ice level layout and assets. I was going to increase the size of the ice tunnels by at least 3x but we ran out of time. I'll be adjusting after the game jam ends to make them more fun.

Camera does need some love and the desert level is kind of an open sandbox with arrows pointing you to certain areas. Check the insides of the pyramids and the big pyramid

Developer(+1)

Cinematic Camera is a fantastic idea. Thanks for Playing!

You weren't kidding about the performance issues - this thing crashed my whole browser! But once I downloaded it was fantastic, super slick and fast paced gameplay -wicked sick!

Developer(+1)

Sorry about that! Yea it was nothing short of a miracle that we were able to get the webgl version working at all! We encountered just about every limit that we could have in the upload process! It was a good lesson to learn during my first game jam lol
Thanks for downloading and playing! So glad to hear you had fun with the downloaded version!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for going the extra mile and downloading the game! As you can imagine the last two days was panic optims to make it run in the browser at all lol.

Submitted(+1)

I love the environments!!! very colorful!

Developer

Thank you so much! I enjoy a good splash of color, and I'm glad you did too!

Submitted(+1)

Overall quite enjoyable! Very slick

Slick music, slick concept, and slick sparkles on the pompadour and glasses. You're so sliiiick!!!!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and the kind words! You're so sliiiick!!!!!

I just kinda vibed out and suddenly I was bouncing off a pyramid trying to do some giant jumping puzzle. Music was awesome, love all the tracks. Inner city was super confusing, I just got pin-balled around and ended up in the ice somehow. Wish obstacles didn't cost all my momentum, would've been fun to break through stuff and keep going. The aesthetic is immaculate though. Very slick.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and describing your experience!
We tried breakable windows but we couldn't get it performant in time lol. That's a great idea! I'll see if we can get breakable obstacles for the post mortem!

Submitted(+2)

Title menu is straight vibes, love the visuals.  Mouse sensitivity on the controls is probably a little too high but I enjoy the SSX meets Tony Hawk Skater feel

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Hopefully we can get a sensitivity slider for the menu in post mortem!

Submitted(+2)

I liked the environments and variety therein. The beats, the jumps, and tricks are all pretty slick. I lost track of where I needed to go a few times, but the bumpers set me straight. Nice job!

Developer(+2)

o7! Thanks for playing!

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed it and that the bumpers got you back on track! Thanks so much for playing and the kind words!

Levels are really awesome, can tell that a lot of work went into making them as detailed as possible (even if it comes with some lag spikes on the webgl build). Also nice how many parts get added for each board upgrade, though I don't really feel myself getting much of an advantage while upgrading. Maybe it would've also been a bit nice to see a little bit more animation in the player like when they're jumping, but aside from that I'm a fan of the aesthetics.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! A lot of love and effort was put into this game! It was my first game jam and was for a couple other members of the team too, so we really gave it our all!
Yea, getting the webgl build up and working took a lot of optimizing in the last couple days of the jam, but we got it to at least work despite the lag spikes! (we almost didn't make it, getting the working version in with less than 10 minutes to spare) The board upgrades did increase your max speed and jump power by more, however, we ran into an issue of controllability when moving too fast (on the last day of the jam lol) so we had to dial the upgrades back a bit lol. You mentioning the player animation gave me an idea I wish I had during the jam, hopefully it'll show up in the post mortem!

Really appreciate the detailed feedback! Thank you so much for playing!

Petty slick level design. Good vibes here.

Developer(+1)

o7, Thank you, we weren't panicking.

Developer

There may have been a little panic lol

Developer

Really appreciate the kind words! Hope you had a good time and thanks for playing!
