I already made a majority of my complaints over this version in a comment under a different post/topic regarding 0.9.0a named "Feedback on some aspects of 0.9.0", so I'm not going to go out of my way to make the same statements and complaints I made there here, but I'm still going to complain about  this new test version  because it just takes the cake in terms of breaking even more shit than was already busted. Legitimately 0.9.0b feels like a joke update meant to be even more purposefully broken than before. I get that the thing says that it MIGHT be a BIT broken, but Jesus H. Christ this is WAY BEYOND A BIT BROKEN.

The controls for the Radar inverted but only for left and right movement and you can't fix it.

The coffee machine costs legitimately 2 BILLION+ POINTS for NO REASON, screenshot for proof because this one just completely fucking BAFFLES ME as to how and why this sort of thing even happens.

ALL of my upgrades I paid for, including physical modules, are all gone, all of those points just wasted and disappeared.

The alternator upgrade for the ATV is straight up a fuckin lie and doesn't exist and no matter what I buy in the store it doesn't get delivered, it's just replaced by the fucking overcharged engine.

As opposed to 0.9.0a where half the save file options didn't work, in 0.9.0b, NONE of the options in the save file selection screen fucking work anymore.
- I turned off physics damage, I'm still dying to physics damage.
- I turned off food spoiling, food is still spoiling.
- I turned off food fatigue, I'm still dealing with food fatigue.
- I change the game mode from Hard to Easy, the game difficulty is the exact fucking same.
- I try and change how fast or how slow the days go by, they still go by at the same fucking speed at 0.5 as they do at a speed of 2.
I turn off radio tower, relay tower, and transformer decay, they're all still decaying and breaking down too fast for me to deal with.
I get that this is an Alpha meant for testing, but holy shit this isn't even stuff that should NEED to bring testers in to tell you to fix, this is BLATANTLY AND GLARINGLY BROKEN. You can boot up the game for all of A MINUTE and see that this shit is ridiculously busted.

On top of that, events, both story related and NON-story related, STILL aren't working. The only events or occurrences that DO trigger are the moving mannequins, and Furfur hauntings. Except that Furfur hauntings are STILL broken because the fucker spawns in 15 TIMES ALL AT ONCE IN EVERY SPOT THAT IT'S ALLOWED TO SPAWN IN AROUND AND INSIDE THE BASE, AND NEVER STOPS SPAWNING. ON TOP OF THAT, IT NON-STOP SPAWNS SO MANY BONES THAT IT LAGS OUT MY GAME. MY BASE IS SURROUNDED BY HUNDREDS OF BONES. WHY IS THIS THE ONLY EVENT THAT TRIGGERS AND WHY DOES IT TRIGGER ENDLESSLY.

I don't want to be negative about this game, I really fuckin don't, I love this game and the premise and lore and story and everything but it's fuckin unplayable and untestable when half the fucking mechanics just DON'T WORK. Not to mention that the controls in general STILL suck and feel completely backwards from what they SHOULD be. Every update to the test versions just feels like Dr. Nose is just throwing random shit at the wall and slapping things on top of what would otherwise be a decently working and fun game with next to no care as to whether or not the shit they're adding actually functions to begin with while breaking everything else in the process.

This whole thing just feels like a complete and utter prank, I feel like I'm getting Punk'd, it feels like I'm the butt of a joke whenever I try to do fucking ANYTHING in this version because NOTHING WORKS.

(+10)(-32)

but hey at least we got more of the useless out of bounds dogshit!

(+7)(-3)

That isnt meant for The player to see. Its just stuff they use for future implementations and help work flow...

(+4)(-13)

i was about to dogpile on the dev again, but i guess you're right. making games shouldn't be super strict. having fun is an important part of it

(+9)(-3)

I dont know what the idea you guys have on Game development but One thing I can assure you.. Its hard work. For a Game like Voices of the Void where we have lots of items interactions,  Events, flags, and a whole lot of stuff running on the background. I challenge you to a week of game developing. Coding asssets, Setting up AI pathways and AI Behavior, Dealing with volumetric Lighting, Texture Mip mapping, modelling and animating said models, Setting up Nodes and events flags, adjusting headers and pointers....
Let the guys have some fun little japes between them... They are artists too

(+8)(-2)

Wow. Rude.

(+7)(-1)

Game development is fucking hard dude. 0.9b is a test build anyways, hence the word "TEST" in all caps, 3 times. Shit will be broken, it WILL snap you out of bounds, things WILL NOT WORK. it is stressful, it's time consuming, and it is NEVER pretty. reiterating what I said earlier, 0.9b is a TEST build. it's not meant to be pretty and playable by the average person. If something broke, it needs to be fixed, things that worked in earlier builds may not work in newer builds, that's the joy and frustration of development. these builds are meant to FIND those broken things.

(+46)(-9)

Damn, if only you had the ability to play a previous version that didn't have giant BROKEN and UNSTABLE on the download... OH WAIT!

(1 edit) (+12)(-18)

This version is a PLAYTEST, as in being made to be TESTED by being PLAYED, my problem with this version is that it's damn near fucking impossible TO TEST because the majority of the mechanics are busted to the point that you can't fucking PLAY it. Dr. Nose keeps adding shit and breaking more shit to the point it's becoming more and more and more difficult and tedious TO PLAYTEST. THAT was supposed to be my point with this.

I am aware 0.8.2 still exists and is far more playable and stable than this version, and is much more fun to play than this buggy broken mess but just ignoring THIS version and NOT complaining about the shit that's WRONG with it won't fix the problems WITH this version, as with literally everything, if no-one complains about an issue then that issue won't be addressed and fixed. If a game has a major bug or broken feature and nobody complains about it, then the dev won't change it and everyone will just have to suffer through dealing with the broken and bugged out bits.

(+9)(-17)

No one ever said this build was made for being played.
You think testers test games by playing them? How foolish are you? Did you ever look up what QA is?
You're just trying to gaslight yourself into thinking this is the stable release when it's not, it's a test build. Not a play build.
I think devs should make them private cause people are just too dense.

(+10)(-3)

I... yes, I do think this build was made for being tested. It is quite literally called "potentially BROKEN and UNSTABLE shadow TEST for TESTING by TESTERS". Like the entire OG post was overly hostile, but this comment flabbergasted me. Testers.... test the game

(+3)(-5)

Yes, yet the main point was the playing part... even what you texted now doesnt say anyway its playable in any kind. Why the drama, vesper wants clear feedback what works and what doesnt and with time he will ubdate it like always.in the meantime we can all enjoy the working version. He didnt force us into the shadow test.

(+2)(-2)

I'm a little confused, sorry. I'm not the OP and have no stakes in this conversation at all. I replied to the comment above because it confused me and it was just flat wrong. I am not sure if you're speaking to me or someone else, but you replied to me and I don't understand because I didn't say anything about drama or being forced to play.

(+2)(-1)

No no sorry, i clicked wrong xdd it was meant for the original post. That is on me :3

(2 edits) (+2)(-6)

No.

There are multiple Forms  of tests and testers

In game development its not just The playable state that is important. As of The game right now, The shadow build in question, is not  playable . It was made to test New mechanics, physics, Graphics implementations, AI behavior, Map stability, and overall consistency of game content.(to check if all flags are being activated and such)

QA testers test The completed project fully to check if The entire project and vision of the Game is working as intended. But as Everybody knows VOTV aint complete yet... So this fallacy of "testers, test the Game by playing" is flat out wrong... Imagine if all testers did that during development of a game?

Imagine The waste of time waiting for all testers to play a game that it has content that needs to be activated by putting hundreds of hours into the game and still missing, for an example,  an event?

The game would never get out of development hell

In short... No, This isnt a version to play and enjoy. This version is literally a work In PROGRESS meant to show New ideas, mechanics and etc for The other guys in The team to "spark" creativity and create content.

I agree with The guy above me. These shadow builds should be private because of all The behavior of the community that isnt helping in any way The development of the Game.
Edit:  Addendum: You arent forced to play the shadow version. You can choose not to do so. And if the warnings werent enough for you dont forget that Actions have consequences. Be mindful of that

(1 edit) (+2)(-2)

I am not trying to argue with you, nor did I say that this was meant to be played by the general audience. But you just said this "It was made to test New mechanics, physics, Graphics implementations, AI behavior, Map stability, and overall consistency of game content.(to check if all flags are being activated and such)". So... like okay, I believe you. But that's kinda what I was implying? Testers....test stuff...

But regardless, I am not knowledgeable in game dev, so I will dip out of this convo.

(2 edits) (+2)(-4)

Yes.. Testers test stuff. Its implied in the name. What are they testing for? Thats the real question. Every assignment has an aim.
Also Testers dont make a 60 line text complaining about the bugs and features and broken stuff they find, in a General Discussion Forum of the game.
REAL TESTERS Document bugs, Unintended Features and anything unusual they find during their gameplay and in the end, they make a little addendum with their ideas and suggestions and send all that to the Dev. Thats what Testers Do.
BUt playing a TEST version of the game and expecting a finalized product experience its kinda unfair isnt it?
In game development when you have a PLAYABLE game it means its somewhat fun and engaging experience...
So, the shadow build? Unplayable.... Play at your own risk of getting a bad experience and if you want to help, Please play it report all the bugs you found, document them and put them in the forms DrNose set it up for THIS occasion in particular.(its Enforced by the dev thats why he released the Test version for the public)
Dont be a self entitled jackass like OP. Contribute, be kind and concise. Help the development of your beloved game..
Its like raising a child.. You wont beat its ass for every mistake they make unless you want to repeat the same mistakes some parents do with their offspring.

(1 edit) (+2)(-2)

I... I'm sorry, man, but I am genuinely confused about how any of my comments or replies could be mistaken for being self-entitled or being a jackass. Nothing in this post coming from me has been me demanding anything of the devs, just being confused on this whole subject. And you helped correct me, so... I don't under the hostile third degree? But whatever man, like I said, I'm dipping from the convo, appreciate the insight but jeez.

(+2)(-3)

Thats alright.  A Lot of people confuse ''Playing'' In the Ludic sense as to ''Test''
For some people, Testing and playing its fun... Its like a virtual glorified treasure hunt.(For me, playing and testing and finding bugs and broken things its fun for other people its not)
When you ''play'' a game, you expect it to work as intended with all the mechanics, game world and balancing to be nice and tidy.. But this isn't the case. In this case. playing this particular version of the game, would ruin your expectancy on the game. No wonder the Dev dully noted that its BROKEN,SHADOW,TEST in Uppercase... He probably knew what would happen.
There's a BIG difference between Playing a game and testing a game but for some people doing both is fun.

Oh boo-hoo, a free video game that is being worked on by a small team with like, 3? people coding it put out a TEST build that's buggy. Cope!

(+5)(-2)

"yes they keep breaking the game and bloating it with literal garbage, but at least its free!" joins 'its not meant to be played' as the worst bait of all time.

(+1)(-6)

Toxic levels of cope. Just say you hate good horror games.

(+2)

i love fun horror games. im not a huge fan when they turn into a broken version of house flipper for 0 reason.

(+37)(-5)

Hyperbole. Have patience. They're working on fixing all of these. Don't be an asshole. Y'know most people know this.

This game ain't your life you can just not play for a bit.

Calling attention to bugs is fine but the moment you start being an ass you shouldn't get to ever play anything again.

Basically... grow up.

(+2)(-7)

I mean. This games a rather huge part of the life of my friend I turned on to the game. (harsh work life he uses it to destress) But your point still stands more or less because even he's not an obsessive twat like the op is......Ok thats a biiiit mean? He or she could just not know how to read change logs or have the common sense to look in  the comments for a BUGTEST version to see if there's a list of the bugs.

(1 edit) (+8)(-2)

I get that, games a big part of my life too. Buuuut when something means a lot to someone insulting the creators of that media is still bad.

(phrased this weird but I'm pretty much just agreeing with you)

(-5)

Hells bells do I not feel that. Not that it particularly matters but take an upvote. lol

(+6)(-7)

No it isnt just Bad. Stop Glazing The OP.

Its literally bringing a whole cake of negativity like The devs arent working Hard on it. The entire OP post is literally a tantrum of insults and swears and you are going: - Oh My love, I know its Hard on you but its not good to do this

Are you his boyfriend or something?

(+22)(-2)

dude. Calm the hell down. Its called a BROKEN version for testers for a reason. Its gonna have bugs. Heck, im a brand new player and the different controls absolutely INFURIATE ME (multiple actions on one key press is one of the dumbest design decisions I've ever seen) but even i think your being pretty unfair.

(+3)(-2)

Same here, new to the game, played the test version and even with bugs i understood the logic of test... and it already got an update, so the patience - thtat is da wae

(1 edit) (+8)(-23)

May want to curb this entitlement. It's a free game that has the words "BROKEN" and "UNSTABLE" and "FOR TESTERS" on it for a reason, yet here you are, blatantly ignoring all the warning signs and crying on the forums like a petulant child. You test a game by testing it, not just casually playing it you dimwit. You don't treat this as a game to just be played, and I see you using this as an excuse, which is stupid bullshit. THIS kind of shit is why the devs have to put words in all caps all over the file name, to deter knuckle-draggers like you.

You figuratively walked into a lake with "no swimming" signs everywhere and are whining and throwing a tantrum because you got wet. At this point you seem so inept I would say don't bother helping with bugtesting, you probably wouldn't be able to provide anything of value anyway. Did you submit any bugs reports at all? Did you tell them any of this in an official bug report or take a look at the publicly available Google doc with reported bugs? Or did you just feel like crying on the itch.io forums instead of doing something constructive? I suggest going back to the stable version and wait for 0.9.0 to release fully. People like you piss me off and only serve to show the developers that their community is full of fucking retards. Get bent.

(+7)(-6)

Oof, that edge at the end

(1 edit) (+11)(-3)

The dude was definitely being a dick, but I don't think bringing more negativity into this is exactly a good thing. It feels like you took the already raging fire created by the OG poster and then dumped gasoline onto it.

The guy is dumb for sure but being a dick right back I don't think is the move here. We want to be better than this, don't we?

(1 edit) (+14)(-6)

Reminder: Rules say "don't say slurs" (tho bigots can't read, I know, I know)

I know you sick fucks think ableism is fun but just shut the fuck up.

They were being an asshole, but you're being an even bigger asshole.

Also "get bent"? Go back to 2011 cod lobbies who the fuck speaks like this

Also stop mentioning crying, you're the one who's clearly frothing at the mouth. And also you sound like Heavy from TF2, who doesn't deserve to be compared to a shithead like you.

(+7)(-3)

You are entirely right.

OP is literally a Child throwing a tantrum like someone Broke a toy he got from someone else.

I know you are mad though,  dont be. People are dumb, entitled and arrogant all over The Internet, You Will lose your sanity trying to educate em' and even if you do manage to, you Will still  be seen as bad.

Just like working in Retail... Hell of a job

(+3)(-6)

he probably mad because there is bugs that was fixed, and then decided its playable, so put several hours into save file he was playing, and then he saw those gamebreaking bugs, and like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. I mean, when i saw coffee cost, i was like: "Damh, i guess ai companies drank all coffee, and now there is coffee crisis". Is this even a bug?

(+2)(-2)

It pretty obviously is a bug.

(+1)(-7)

/woooosh

(+3)(-3)

Wow, thanks for the insightful input. If he was joking, it wasn't very obvious.

(1 edit) (+1)(-5)

No. It was obvious.  The way The text is structured and how he typed it hinted on his little jape at AI. After all AI seems to be The Hot topic right now.

Nobody would say that Unironically.  Oh wait, Im actually wrong. Because you thought he said it unironically right? So there are People gullible enough to believe it.

You need to talk with more People Man, Stop taking things too literally, are you neurodivergent perchance? If True, Im Sorry, I dont wanna look rude. But look at your text for example, it sounded a bit ironic and passive aggressive.

Wow. (period) Thanks for The insightful input.(period)IF he was joking[...]

It sounds like You are mocking me for noticing something you didnt. Which Makes you appear like a self conceited person that gets mad at People noticing things that you didnt ,making you appear even more ridiculous and Stupid.  If your intention wasnt that and you are neurodivergent Disregard The Last part.

Work on that penmanship Bro. It helps a lot convey yourself better and not look like a tool or a scumbag.

(+3)(-2)

I like how you call me out on penmanship and then proceed to capitalize every other word for no reason, as well as misquoting my comment. And yeah, it was meant to be passive aggressive lol I'm glad you picked up on that. You can keep commenting on every other comment with nothing of use though. I don't feel like replying to your other dumb arguements so have a good one dude.

(1 edit) (-6)

Welp ,suit yourself. You just proved and showed what you really are. I'm used to people being dickwads in the internet, internet anonymity  does wonders to people.
Have a good one you too. (Even if you didnt mean that)
Edit: It also baffles me that you seem to know how to be ironic yet cant detect A little Joke in a comment.  Cynical much?

(2 edits) (+8)(-3)

QueenofCalcium? More like QueenofSodiumChloride

Its a test version.  Dont be rude and neither an entitled SOB.  The game is free, its working. We have literally a stable version available for download at all times.  Getting frustrated and mad about an unstable game version and throwing a tantrum in the forum aint gonna help.

Wanna do something worthy of praise?  Join The discord, get as much info on bugs and how to Reproduce em' and put it neatly in a doc file with proof images and possible vídeos.  When enough info is gathered send it to The Channel #Bug reports. Or use The Forms Drnose set it up in The forums. Whichever you prefer

You were warned to back up all your saves before playing The UNSTABLE version of the Game. If you are mad about losing PROGRESS, Im Sorry but its all your fault. Tremendous skill issue as some of us would say.

By making these kind of posts only Makes you appear ridículous and makes your overreactions pretty Stupid.

(+5)(-1)

*Walks in* the hell is going on here

(+9)(-3)

A child throwing a Tantrum.
Something normal in every game community

(+3)(-6)

Someone rightly being angry that somehow they fucked every single mechanic the game has ever had in a single "shadow test".

(+1)(-4)

Yet this isnt the place nor the correct way to do it. If you want to be heard, at least act like a human being.
We have a bug report forum just for that.

(1 edit) (+4)(-1)

Basically someone angry that the version with BROKEN and UNSTABLE in all caps in its name is broken and unstable

(+7)(-2)

Download VOTV launcher from the "Game Page"
download and install then open
From there you can go to install > Select Version > 0.9.0_0015_1 and maybe some of those problems go away.
You lose some things, but you get to use the coffee machine!

I get the frustration, but the point of the playtest is to find problems and will be issues.
The fact that there are problems is like complaining that the rain makes you wet.

(+4)(-3)

Couldnt have said better myself
''Complaining that the rain makes you wet''
If you dont mind I will use this from now on.

(+10)(-1)

>Downloads game version labelled as "BROKEN" and "UNSTABLE"
>Looks inside
>Game: is broken and unstable
>Gets mad
this truly is one of the moments of all time

(+6)(-1)

After you DOWNLOADED the BROKEN and UNSTABLE you come here and post about---->"but Jesus H. Christ this is WAY BEYOND A BIT BROKEN." let mrdrnose cook, don't backseat drive the dev for this. Grow tf up

(+1)(-12)

least insane cope man, you're supposed to backseat drive for the dev because we're the ones who decide if their game gets played

(1 edit) (+5)(-3)

Literally not. VoTV is a passion project, even if people playing or not, it will release and its gonna be good . Its an unique game that takes form from its predecessor Signal Simulator that was basically inspired by a Streamer called Joel from Vinesauce.
Also that isn't ''backseat driving''. Are you helping the development of the game in any way?
Did you develop any asset? Did you contribute with any content for the game? Did you help with any form of bugfixing and/or bug finding of the game?
No, you are just being an arrogant and self entitled prick the same way the OP is. You think the devs owe you something?
What is your deal? Take your stupid negativity out of here because I'm sure that your input is as useless as drying ice.

(+5)

It’s truly beautiful to see testers deliberately seek out and play a version clearly labeled “potentially BROKEN and UNSTABLE shadow TEST for TESTING”, only to get angry and shout “I hate this version!” instead of providing the developers with constructive feedback about newly added features or bugs. And when I see comments saying “You can’t defend this just by saying it’s ‘in development’!”, I honestly don’t even know what to say anymore, lol.

This game hasn’t been officially released or sold yet, and you, me — all of us — are testers. There’s absolutely no reason to get angry. If you care about VOTV, gather the things you don’t like and send feedback to the dev. And if, even after that, you still don’t like the direction the updates are taking… well, what can you do? You can simply stop playing the game.

(+1)(-4)

I agree and I want to add a bit more to it too
If you are unsatisfied with where VotV is going, nothing is stopping you from making your own Voices of the Void.
Create and assemble all assets, Gather a team or some people to help if you want and voila you can create the VotV that you want.
What is stopping you?
If you can't do that well, Then act like most of us do.. Help with suggestions, ideas, bugfinding and bugfixing and let the dev cook his own vision for the game. Dont act like a spoiled, entitled brat and be respectful, kind and concise with your feedback(After all all feedback is appreciated when it actually does something positive for the community and the game itself)

(+6)(-1)

I think it's fair to be upset if things are broken and to point out that they are broken, but there's no reason to be rude about it.  The only thing you are spending is your own time here. You did not pay money for this. These problems do need to be fixed, and undoubtedly will be. To be honest, I found Voices of the Void through Joel and hearing him mention that 0.9.0 was due out for Halloween brought me here wondering what happened to it.

At least as far as Itch.io is concerned, 0.8.2 is still the most current release. You have to go digging a bit to find any version of 0.9.0, and it's pretty clearly marked as an alpha. What, do you expect to get a refund? On what? The time you chose to spend?

If it's busted, wait until it gets fixed. If it never gets fixed, do you think a tantrum is going to spur anyone into action on your behalf? Who are you, even?

(+2)(-2)

The crazy thing is that if you download the VOTV launcher you can choose which build to download if you know how and the previous build it stable.

(+1)(-2)

The what?

Again, that's not linked here. If you're in deep enough that you're seeking things like that out, then you should know better. And whoever maintains that launcher needs to work on more clearly labeling things like that.

(+1)(-2)

Download VOTV launcher
"Game Page"
in links go to official website [WIP]
download the launcher
install then open
From there you can go to install at the top left
Select Version > 0.9.0_0015_1 and maybe some of those problems go away.
You lose some things, but you get to use the coffee machine!

(+3)(-2)

Holy entitlement.

This latest version is plagued by a good number of bugs, most of which being custom difficulty/task settings not applying, but...unplayable? Did you deliberately use old saves or merge files?

The only game-breaking bugs I've encountered  in version 9b after 17 in-game days is Kilo duplicating and eating floppies, and the drone bag duping a bag and breaking the inventory system, which only occurs from quitting and reloading while it is still at your base. Outside of that, the game is...fine? Much of the complaints you've listed are easily corrected with a fresh install, avoided by reloading a save, or straight up just part of the game's default difficulty parameters. It's possible to disable the radar tower decay in 9b, and the radio tower literally CAN'T go down in either 0.9 versions. The amount of sellable items/garbage guarantees you will have enough points to upgrade the station to nominal operation before the first week is even over, which in turn has made the game's main loop of obtaining signals probably more easily attainable than any version since 0.7.

Also the game is free. You really cannot whine about the stability of a free update when the devs clearly label it as "unstable" and have archived all the previous stable and playable versions for their supporters to access at any given time. Version 0.8.2 is literally right there for your leisure, man.

(1 edit) (+3)

Unstable, broken test version of the game is broken, yes.

AH YES i wonder why "[potentially BROKEN and UNSTABLE shadow TEST for TESTING by TESTERS] Alpha09b_4" is BUSTED maaaaan i wish their was a stable version of the game

(9 edits) (+6)(-6)

Let me be that person on the OP's side of the barricades and say what some of us want to say but filter themselves out because they don't want to sound too rude/cynical/entitled and receive a ton of downvotes.

I'm frustrated that I've been waiting for 0.9.0 to finally release, starved for content, and, after receiving a promise of a Halloween release to enjoy the creepy vibes in a project I love, I still have to stop myself each time my mouse pointer hovers over the download button, still waiting for the stable version to be released. The only option to experience the game is by playing the old 0.8.2c build, a build I already know from inside out, tauntingly sitting next to 0.9.0 with a promise of fresh content to experience, and letting my interest and hope in the whole game continue dropping further down every week I check VotV's page.

I'm frustrated that the developer earns whopping $300.000 a year, minimum, excluding the merch and other revenue sources, and all he managed to muster for $175.000 (it's been 7 months since 0.8.2c) while developing an indie game is some new assets, events, graphical tweaks, 2 times the amount of bugs, and introduced the performance drop even further to the point the lighting system makes no sense to enjoy due to the framerate hit. Depending on the place he's living in, a whole studio can be opened on this budget, not 2 and a half people involved in the project, memeing on X about a new tower, an unprofessionally messy Unreal Engine blueprint, or whatever. Yes, I'm calling out the developer for something that is a major issue in Patreon-supported games, yet somehow is straight-up forbidden to discuss in every community, except probably Yandere Dev's. The development of this game is powered purely by the community that received a promise of an awesome experience, and as a member of this community, you should call him out too, because these resources are coming to him from your wallet. If that sum isn't respected, maybe he should just accept a publisher's offer and be pressured to continue developing the game using corporate money with a dedicated accountant micromanaging every penny of his spendings on a much less relaxed schedule if he can't properly allocate the donations.

I'm frustrated that the developer is highly selective in his choices of how to interact with the community. They're never responding to the bug reports on itch.io, making that thread look long forgotten, preferring the comfort of his Discord server where things seemingly already escalated up to the point of a personality cult. I, as a member of itch.io's community, wanted to be a part of the game's development, presenting my input for everyone's benefit, but my shouts to revert the controls or introduce the old layout as an option for those who can't digest the new controls are directed into nothing, as if this part of the community doesn't even exist.

I'm frustrated that there's no transparency, and, coming from the point above, a lackluster community management. We have a couple (?) of changelogs. We maybe receive one meme per month on X. And that's about it. When a release window is given, it's certainly to be taken with a cup of salt after the 0.9.0's fiasco. I have to hunt for information on their Discord server, trying to make sense who's who, trying to build an internal chain of thought to an answer if it's even worth waiting a couple of more days/weeks/months until the stable release, or the stable release isn't coming and I should just stop waiting and enjoy the current build... Only to hear yet another "shut up bro can't you see it's a shadowy test" from another member practicing toxic positivity every time I'd go to report some issue or criticize the testing build which is logically expected to receive such feedback. We don't know if the stable 0.9.0 is even in the works or if the developer has completely switched to 0.9.1 now, which may or may not also come out as an unstable release and repeat the cycle.

Please take a fresh look at this project, because at this rate, we're not going to get that amazing game we genuinely wish VotV to be.

Spot on. New assets replacing already good assets, more trash to clean, and broken gameplay features are not what I support a SETI simulation game for. so much for feedback/testing/bug-reporting. Meanwhile the dev seems to DM and nag a specific streamer every time he plays the game and shitpost all day.

Now this is more like it... This is a reasonable argument.

Seven people are involved which results in that revenue being barely equivalent to a part time job. One of those people is an actual 3d artist while three of them are coders (including Nose himself). Not to mention that 0.9 has a lot of work done outside of just content, namely concerning items. You as a consumer do not know what's happening development-side or what exactly has changed coding-wise. Bug fixes themselves can often be catastrophic and require entire reworks to various aspects of the game, but are rarely valued because of the perception that they don't add "content."

Your post reads as entitlement. You want changes made that you think matter most and are just complete reverts to 0.8.2. You then proceed to whine about the money a solo team gets when you aren't directly responded to out of thousands of random players, which is even sillier when you consider that Nose has dedicated testers on the team.

The release window for 0.9 never said the Halloween release would be THE stable release. It was always going to be a shadow test if it was going to release at all, which the team worked tirelessly to make happen in the first place. And Nose doesn't talk about solid release dates for versions because things take time and people like you would throw tantrums if they had to delay them. Why deal with that hassle before a major release, like the Steam version or 1.0?

You can just come back to the game some other time. You have a whole life to care about, surely VotV isn't more integral to your life than other people or hobbies.

I have played various games, most via Steam (or Epic), where the game was still in early access (some even after full release, but still being added to) AND allowed the player to OPT-IN to get, play and hopefully report any problems with the testing (Test Branch) version.  THIS way, any MAJOR problems can be identified and hopefully fixed in a SEMI-REGULARLY PUSHED OUT UPDATE.  And as the version gets more and more stable, a finalized 'STABLE' Branch is generally pushed out to the general populace that they can then better check to see if that still needs much more major work and the test branches can more work on the other problem items that come about.

THIS also allows for the (hopefully) more rapid FIXES to Major Game Breaking things (the type that often requires full game restarts, but not always) and verify those fixes in the "testing" community.  And Yeah, this game has many interlocking things that require a LOT of things to fully test.  Which can become harder to fully test, without putting it out to the people to play and report on.

And Yeah, being on someplace like Steam, can allow you to have a bit more viability and expanded Community.  Plus secure payment options as well as a few other things that the platform provides.

I DO like this game and like to watch various content creators play this game as well as me playing it as well.  With a game like this, there is SO much that can be different, depending on what you do at anytime in the game.  But if those same content creators have to dump a LOT of time and online content, because they have to restart and try to replay things to be close to where they left off, because they FINALLY got an update that broke their current play through, without knowing that the game was in that kind of state.

And I was seriously looking to play the newer version, but everything that I have seen here and other places, show me that I'll just have to wait, it would seem, a few more MONTHS before I should even think about getting the newer version and give it a spin...
