Game Description
I'm too broke to afford Papers Please on Steam so this game is inspired by the videos I've seen of it :)

How does your game tie into the theme?
In Unmasked, you play as an ID manager, whose main objective is to see who is masking their identity and pretending to be someone they're not.

Great implementation of the theme. I love the design for the old lady.

Since most of the game is played with the mouse left-click, it would have been nice if you could exit the computer interface by clicking a button on the screen or by right-clicking instead of needing to press E.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I agree, I definitely could've done better with the controls on that aspect.  I appreciate the feedback :)

Fun vibe with some very chilled music. I've never played papers please so hard for me to compared but have heard a lot about it.  What i can say is I really enjoyed the dialog and interacting with the different characters, they are full of personality! As others have said, some additional mechanics to add to the challenge would make this more engaging to play but its not bad at all the way it is now. Good job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing!

I liked this, I enjoy the paper's please style of gameplay. I do think that this game lacks some challenge though - a big thing about paper's please is that you're also expected to work as *fast* as possible, since there's a time limit on identifying people for the day and more successful screenings gives more money for food/heat/medicine. I think having a time limit on screening each person or something similar would really help this game.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I agree a timer, or some kind of challenge would've had a fun twist on the game. I appreciate the feedback :)

Hey! This is neat! We had pretty similar ideas drawing from papers please it seems! I wish i'd thought to add some questioning of visitors in to mine too!

Liked it a lot, very charming and the background tune was catchy.

Developer

Yeah, Papers, Please was definitely an inspiration lol. Thank you for playing!

Such a cute game!! I loved the characters, their personalities, and getting to talk to them! The sound design was great too, and overall it was super fun to play.

The only thing that could make this game even better was if there was a bit more of a challenge. I managed to get everyone right pretty easily. Maybe adding more info on the employee cards or throwing some curveballs into the dialogue could keep players guessing a bit more?

Also - I wished I could have played it full screen. I wanna be completely enveloped in the game and the art. Loved it!

Developer

Oh yes, I definitely agree, more of a challenge would've helped! It'll be something I keep in mind for the next one! Thank for the feedback and thank you for playing :)

Cute stuff, pretty funny, and very very fleshed out in terms of polish and dialogue.

I can't wait for return of the CRT monitors in 2030, haha

Developer(+1)

Haha yeah. All of the modern computer pixel art I tried making just didn't look right, so I ended up going with that instead :) Thank you for taking the time to play!

What a lovely game, it felt very polished and well rounded. The vibe of the tune was so happy and charming and helped me cope with the harsh reality of deciding peoples fate (jk but the song was really a banger :D )

I like the pixelart a lot and the little swaying of hair and all the small details. really cool
The characters were all very unique and the 3 year old impressed me the most, he was such a great talker :D

in the end i had 5 correct and 2 incorrect, i hope i can keep the job :D

Really cool lighthearted entry, love it. Great job!

Wow, thank you for the kind words! I can’t take credit for the music, but I agree who made it did amazing! (I gave credits in the extras tab on the main menu :) ). Thank you for taking the time to play and comment, I really appreciate it :D

I liked this. The characters were interesting and I felt compelled to do the little Idle animations with them IRL. Felt necessary. I hope they were impressed with my ability to drop the cards into the reader from the ceiling. That feature is a nice touch. Good work on this one.

Developer(+1)

I’m sure they were very impressed with the card drop :) thank you for playing!

Cool game. I really enjoyed the little things, like the wavy text and the kid with the special code. good job :)

Nice. Liked the writing. Wasn't too tough to figure out who to let in. Probably needs more variables to check for as time goes on, but this is a good start!

It's funny that you can drop the ID from up high and it'll still go in.

Music is nice, and the sound effects fit well enough.

For the computer, you could probably add an X on the top right and also something to close it when clicking the grey area outside the computer. I usually throw a full screen TextureButton without a texture behind the menu to do that.

Text was a little small since I couldn't fullscreen or resize the game.

I liked the character designs and how well their personalities come across through how they speak. Wasn't too overexaggerated, which was nice.

For controls, it'd be nice to be able to keep asking questions without having to click on them after each response.

Overall very good start. I enjoyed it.

Very cool game, it gives me the Papers, Please vibe.

Great dialog writing and story progression

But the control was not so intuitive, I wished this game were mouse only, and I don't have to close the chat dialog whenever I need to check the Card

Also, no Fullscreen option makes reading quite hard.

Good work!

Developer

Papers, Please was an inspiration for sure :) This is my first ever game, so I wasn't sure if the E to close the computer would be annoying, but I really appreciate the feedback! I'll remember that for my next game. Thank you for playing :)

I liked following the story. I had to deny the old lady just to see what happened haha. I do wish I couldve made it fullscreen or make the text a bit bigger, it was hard to see on my screen.

Developer

Oh, I'm sorry it was hard to see! I've hadn't tested the game in fullscreen before submitting it, so I was scared it'd be buggy. I'll definitely think about it next time though. Thank you for playing :)

Tutorial was PEAK.

Really good writing, the characters were funny.

Only critique is things could have been a little faster overall. (animation wise and such)

Developer

thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it :)

Wow you are really great at dialogue! Was expecting to get reading dread as a lot of games of this style give me that.

Expesially as I struggle reading a lot of text you made it very digestable and not pretentious!

You knew how to really communicate effectively and minimalistic ally without players getting bored with subtle queues including the design of each character. I found myself more lost in the unique personality of each person which is a great sign and I reckon the appeal of the genre!

For some critiques I Wish there was more of a challenge aspect like it being timed. It felt too low stakes. Also while it is loosely connected to jam theme would have liked some more cards used. Super charming game though!

Developer

This is my first ever game, so I'm glad to hear the dialogue was paced well :) that was definitely a worry I had lol. Thank you for the feedback!

Submitted

Yea a lot of dialogue ive written for games tends to be too long or pretentious. As well as a lot of games. When someone can make dialogue that is digestable, believable, and natural really makes games like these work!

Also if you have time would love to get your feedback on my game!

Developer

Yeah, of course, I'll check it out!

Fun little game, art it nicely done. The music loop is very abrupt when it restarts(I know there isn't much you can do about that) My only real complaint would be the "E" to close the details.

Well thought out game, nicely put together! Good job...

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I definitely wish I could've found a fix for the music loop, it bothers me too lol.

Submitted

I got them all correct - nicely done and I liked the style. Great job!
