The intro, the skill tree, the crunchy sound effects, the health indicator with the liquid animation... the game genuinely looks so good, it's clear that you've put a lot of effort into the presentation of the game. I personally think that the gameplay is a bit weak though-- before the ritual, every enemy that appears seems to be outpaced by the player, so even when you put on the mask, so long as you run in circles there really isn't that much of a threat. Consequently, there really isn't an incentive to collect exp and expand the skill tree until you trigger the boss fight. Nonetheless, amazing game!

This really has potential to be a full on game. I found the skill tree very addictive to try and push as far as i can in one direction. I really liked the aura buffs and spent a few runs trying to explore that side of the tree. Really well done in such a short amount of time!

Nice graphics!

I enjoyed the eyes following the mouse in the menu, small details like that make the game feels wholee.

Very nice to have the screen darken, multiplier with flames, HP hidden as your multiplier increase.

I usually go with +exp in this kind of game until I can then rank up upgrades, but that backfired hard as I was barely chipping the boss health. In any case, amazing skill tree and upgrades! Would’ve loved to see my current stats to help visualize the impacts of upgrades.

Great game, good job.

I was confused by the mechanics at first. I couldn't find where my progress was leading me. But after a while I understood and really enjoyed it. Great Game!

This looks the absolute business. Really strong visuals that feel coheesive throughout the interface and gameplay.

My only bit of criticism is in the health/damage feedback. The vignette unfortunatly obscured the health bar entirely, and i may have missed this, but a little flash or particle on the player when getting hit would be a helpful feedback indicator too.

Besides that, i think it's a really strong entry. You've done some really good work, nice job.

I originally had the health orb always showing and I suppose I should have kept it that way based on the comments, I was hoping by having it hidden as your multiplier got higher it would encourage people to take the mask off more in order to see if they are healthy or not, but I guess it didn't work out so well. Thank you for playing though!!

I... uh.. Completely missed that you could take the mask off!

Sorry! Haha, i must have misread or missed something! I'll try it again with that in mind!

Amazing visuals and a great creepy but cool atmosphere! The sound design and music also fit perfectly and pulled me in. I especially liked the skill progression tree - it was so satisfying to feel like I was getting stronger and seeing how things changed as I progressed. My only confusion was about my health - I had no idea how much I had left. But overall, awesome work!!

The intro and main menu are really strong, they make the game that much better in my mind. This feels pretty well balanced considering the time frame of the jam, or at least it did once I went for the left route of the tree. Visually it’s cohesive and impressive, and the audio fits the tone well too. I think the only things I would’ve wanted more is a stronger distinction from other survivor-likes, and more of a mechanical shift when you put on the mask.

I really like this one a lot though, one of my favorites of the ones I’ve played so far.

thank you so much!

Pretty good game. Really cool that you were able to build out the skill tree and all those abilities in time. First playthrough I died due to not killing the shooters fast enough. Only got to the 3rd enemy deer in that one. Second playthrough I was able to defeat the boss.

Sounds are just enough that all the major info is conveyed. The music is decent not super interesting, but does set the tone.

Movement feels good.

Balance is a little wonky in that I didn't really have to remove the mask once I got the hang of the skill tree on my second run. So adding something to make the mask mechanic more prominent would be better.

I didn't experience any lag after the initial shader load in on my first playthrough. Second run was smooth enough that I didn't notice anything.

I was kinda able to cheese the game, but first building bullet damage enough that there were no enemies on screen, then later build speed and health regen so I could just circle the enemies.

I couldn't really tell what my health was. Or when I took damage. I assume the small sound means light damage, and the big smack means big damage, but I couldn't really tell if it was me hitting the enemy or the enemy hitting me.

I bought health regen, but I didn't see a health bar. If it was that blood orb on the bottom right, that disappeared somewhere halfway through. Might have been the super aggressive vignette shader that covered it. I could only really see the center 1/4th of the screen near the end.

Boss felt a little easy. I couldn't see my health, but I got hit by one bullet from almost every one of it's attacks, but I think my health regen (2x health regen, 1x regen speed) and picking up ground stuff outpaced it. (Couldn't tell because couldn't see health bar.)

All in all, good job!

Developer

my hope was people would take the mask off at some point because they couldn’t see their health any more hahaha, I guess not. Thank you!

I enjoyed the running away bits - they were too scary... The skill tree was impressive! The graphics were great and the gameplay smooth - great job!

A very fun game!

Quite impressive to have build this in 9 days very good job. I feel it could have benefited from one of the earlier enemies have somewhat different pathing otherwise I’m just motivated to go in a circle infinitely which isn’t super engaging. Otherwise it’s quite good and the boss especially made me have to be quite active which is what I like in survivor games.

Developer

Thank you! The balance was so hard to get right I probably spent 2 full days just on that, and it still wasn't good haha

Very nice survivors-style game, the tech tree was extensive.

The visual style and audio were very good.

But the game progression was suffering from game scaling problems.

Good work

Really cool survivors-style game! I like the art, the eyes following you on the menu was cool. I also like the huge skill tree, but I wish I could zoom in or out. When the mult got high enough, the darkening around the edges blocked the health bar, which forced me to stop my mult in order to make sure I wasn’t running out of health. I also had a lot of trouble balance-wise, where if I focused on damage then I ran out of health too quick, but if I focused on health then I just ended up with a big crowd I couldn’t kill. Good job overall!

The art & sound is amazing. I do think it needs a difficulty balance though, it can be quite tricky to survive when you're just starting. Maybe make the xp/heal drop ratio depend on player health? That said it is really satisfying when you max out the skill tree and go from playing bullet hell to being bullet hell. You absolutely need to keep that aspect of the experience.

The sheep needs a buff too, it is hilariously underpowered compared to where the player can get to.

Developer

thank you so much! I agree about the sheep and the difficulty curve, I think looking back on it I should have made every enemy drop exp every time just in varying amounts. I spent a lot of time trying to balance, it was very hard haha

I really enjoyed the artstyle for the game, I especially liked the background in the opening scene with the guy staring at your mouse position lol. I was honestly a bit confused at first, there was a lot on the screen and I had to read the tutorial text you placed while having to fight off other enemies; eventually I figured out the game loop though. Here's some other feedback:
1. You ignore all enemies by just going straight up. Since there is no enemy that can catch up to the player (especially in higher player speeds), it was possible for me to follow one direction and not take any damage. What I'd recommend is either placing boudaries or punishing the player somehow from going too far from the center.
2. Another thing to do with enemies and their speed, when you play for a while, enemies will get in a big group that is easy to loop; essentially, I just circled around the mob until I could kill them all.
3. Lastly, I kinda wished I could manually shoot the projectiles; I feel as if that change would make the player feel a little bit more in control of the player and overall improve game feel.
Overall, really good game, especially for your first GWJ, congrats!

Beautiful art style and really haunting music with the mask on! I did find it to be a little slow and would love if everything did more damage, including myself. Hugely impressive skill tree! I am very new to coding and wouldn't even know where to begin to make a baby version of this. Well done!

omg is fanatastic. how you can do this in 9 days is so beatifull

I spent a lot of my time at work Not Doing My Job and doing this instead hahaha

Really nice game, I love the enemy sprites and my little sheep (who is really the GOAT). It was fairly easy to dodge the enemies (until 6:66 when I died :/). Amazed at the huge skill tree, I got nowhere close to the edge of it.

Had a lot of fun with this one :)

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad some people are reaching the end at least I was so worried I made it impossible, if I had more time I would have loved to add more enemy abilities to make the movement more interesting!

Submitted

I like the art. but the gameplay is WAY too slow and even if  i put on the mask the gaining of exp is still very slow. maybe make all the enemies drop exp orbs and not like a percent chance so i can do the builds faster 5 out of a 6 and a half😍💖😎🥰

Nice one! The atmosphere is awesome! Graphics, sound, movement, everything fits in together. The only thing I would like to have is the option to disable that CRT-like shader.
