Great entry! The soundeffects are great and the music made it extremely epic. The combat was polished and felt great once I got the hang of it, however, I would have like to have just a tiny amount more range. Also maybe use the classic WASD controls next time ^^ (and controller support)

I love the hollow knight inspiration throughout this game, the art style is adorable and very fitting for the jam theme. Definitely more challenging than I expected, and after dying to overworld enemies several times I was left wondering why I was fighting them, and proceeded to skip past most of them to get to the boss. I wish there was a bit more of a reward to killing enemies than just health, though the health mechanic is very fun for sustained aggressive fighting styles.
Also not sure if it's my laptop or what, but the music lagged so bad that I had to turn it off :( I wish I could've listened to it, because it was super good.
Beautiful art, I love the style and the animations! This game feels so polished. The combat is fun and feels really good to play, and the sound effects and music make a really cool atmosphere. The controls took a little getting used to, but I think that's just because I'm really used to WASD, once I had more practice they got easier. Great work!
Your art is supergood, love the animations and all the little details, like their feet when flopping. Really cool :D
Also the endscene in the hammock was a super impressive graphic, that probably took a lot of time to draw.
The art gave the game a really cool touch. Same goes for the music and the sounds. they added to the crawly insects atmosphere.
the last boss was the right amount of difficult in my opinion.
my only complaint is that sometimes the orbs got stuck in the walls and unreachable sadly when keeping the boss near the walls, for the stun. but that was just a minor annoyance
I had fun in my playthrough. Great game good job :D
Some of the nicest looking art in the jam :)
Combat felt pretty good but I felt like I had to get close. I am more of a WASD guy and struggled with the controls.
The music for the 2 wooded areas resets when you cross between them. If you want to keep music playing between scenes, one easy way to do it is to create an autoload or global script that handles stuff like music: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/latest/tutorials/scripting/singletons_autoload.h...
This is a really strong submission, nice job!

Thanks, that's good feedback. Definitely adding WASD next time!

Yep, that's definitely something I wanted to do, thanks for the tip.
The art and animations are amazing!! Everything looks so good. The sound effects and music are great too, it feels like a high level of polish and attention to detail. It's also really fun to play! Nice work.
YES! thanks for that smooth fun experience. I love a good topdown melee combat game. Perfectly executed with clean animations and instant feedback. I love that the dashing enemy can stun itself. The artstyle and color pallete are cleeean. Also positional sfx yum. "tutorial like" worms in the beginning. A smooth way to teach the controls without teaching the controls (if that makes sense.)
great job.
Very cute and fun game! I did find it fairly challenging, a critique that most people have more my game as well so I know the feeling. I think if the player's attack range was just a tad bigger, it would make it feel a lot better and less like I had to hug the enemy to hit them. Art style and sound design are super cute though! Well done. Excellent entry!
Loved the animations and art on this, completely insane to pull this off in the jam time frame. Awesome work.
The controls are good (although I agree that the enemy bump could be a little more forgiving -- or having some kind of parry).
Besides that, amazing submission, awesome work.
Very cool game. Pretty challenging, but doable. The movement speed is fine for this type of game. The dash distance was good, but the feel could probably be improved by adding a curve to the speed.
The biggest problem I had was trying to get close enough to attack, but not close enough that the enemy were able to bump attack me. It took me a while to realize that bumping into enemies damaged me. It just didn't feel very good.
The sounds and music fit pretty well with the game play, though the music might be a tad loud
Good variety of enemies and the placement of the slugs at the beginning to practice attacking and distance was nice.
There's a bit of a bug with the charger where if you're more than a body length away from the left side of a rock, it won't stun when it runs into the rock while it's slowing down.
I like the art and animations. The speed lines really add to the dodge and attacks. And the grass is pretty clever for hiding the acid sheep.
The controls are usable, but I had difficulty with them due to unfamiliarity. I kept mixing up the dodge and attack buttons. I suggest WASD, shift, and space or left click for movement, dodge, and attack respectively.
Thanks for the detailed feedback!

All part of the challenge xD but yeah this was difficult to tune, the player attack range could have been a bit bigger probably. Without contact damage it was too easy to run into the enemy spamming attack. There's other things I could have done too, but ya know, ran out of time...

Took me a sec to get "acid sheep" hahahaha I love that name...

Yep, something I was planning to do but sort of forgot about cos I thought arrow keys were fine...
Good feedback, thanks so much!
Fun stuff. The attack being a spin so it's unidirectional is so clever. I like that two of the bull flies could bump into each other. It felt a little sluggish to me at first, but I got used to it. Unfortunately I had some kind of bug or performance issue and music was all bugged out for me, so I couldn't hear it very well.
So nice I played it twice. I was so close to a deathless run.
I see a fellow silk song player lol! The art and music were so crisp and addicting. The top down style was so great I wish more games did this. I do wish killing the bugs upgraded you? If it was it was way too slow. The mask collecting made me think each mask upgraded a specific stat. Felt like an addicting farm cycle! But was severely let down after I killed 30 of each and didnt see any stat upgrade like my time had been wasted. I think showing the number you killed was great motivation and felt like I was always progressing even if it was an illusion lol
The boss fight was also a great finale and finish using skills you learned earlier.
One HUGE critique I have is that the controls are abysmal. I really loved this game but you NEED WASD / E / F controls. Literally just adding it in the input map would have taken controls from 1 to 5 stars for me lol. You can keep arrow keys also but you immediately alienate a LOT of people with making them play with arrow keys and z and x as that means you have to play with two hands. I gave 5 stars to some of the other criteria but please. Your game is too good to be ruined with such a thing! The majority of gamers have a lifetime of muscle memory built on there left hand. And will find you instantly pretentious or over quirky if you deny them the ability to play this way.
But fantastic game overall!
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you (mostly) liked it :p I wish I could have added some progression system but I sort of ran out of time and didn't want it to be half-baked, so I put the mask collection in but it's just for fun.
About the controls, you're totally right I should have added WASD + something for attack + dash (I think spacebar for dash maybe but w/e). Maybe I underestimated the importance of providing that, I thought most people were comfy with either arrow keys or WASD but maybe not. I guess I learned something, it's good feedback, thanks.
This was AWESOME!! I loved the boss, I would love to play a full version of this!!
Diggin the art style!
Woulda given i-frames for the dash and maybe a hold action for attacking, but aside from that It's solid af.
Fantastic art, music, and atmosphere. Dash mechanic and attacking felt smooth and enjoyable to use as well. Fun experience!

i like but the boss is impossible and i cant move with wasd but the art is fantastic (all the enemies, all the animation andthe ambient) i like it
The art style is superb!! You have a lot of talent if you were able to create in 9 days this whole world with its characters. The characters and the world gave me a Hollow Knight vibe. I like the small detail that the one with the horns would get stunned if they hit a wall, lol. As another commenter said, the short attack range and randomness of the enemy movement make it a little frustrating at times, but I believe this is great for a starting area that teach your the basics, while later you gain more power, more range, maybe even range attacks like fireballs that make you feel more powerful as the game progresses.
I definitely think you have a good base to expand on and you definitely have the visual skills to pull this off. Amazing job so far!
> The characters and the world gave me a Hollow Knight vibe
Haha, yes! I've been playing a lot of Silksong, I wanted to make something that felt a lot like that, but top-down. When I saw the theme was "masks" I jumped on the opportunity.
I would have loved to have added some progression system to make exploring more rewarding (and make it a little easier) but I got bogged down with a lot of other things (it's a game jam after all) so yeah it turns out to just be a fairly hard game overall hehe...
