I liked the atmosphere a lot! I found out that i was able to avoid most enemies by walking at the edge of the level :P
When i entered the room at the end, i spawned inside one of the four pillars and couldnt move towards to sword and was stuck there :( But i had fun regardless! Especially the robot sound when they chase you was really good :)

Developer

Thanks! means a lot to hear that you enjoyed it XD

It's a smal little game, I like the atmosphere and the ambiance with the light and sound design. The monster is not really scary because he's not in the path to the temple so it was pretty easy to get. It would have been cool to lead more the playe toward the temple. I would have loved some context story. Great work!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. I did place a couple of monsters near the temple but I guess they must've walked out of your way lol. I agree it leaves a bit to be desired and that'll be updated in the next version. Thanks for playing

I had a great time playing! The sound really helped me get immersed in the game!

I wanted to play all the way through, but I got lost and couldn't finish it, which is a shame. Still, overall, you did a great job :D

Developer

thanks for playing! the goal is to make it to the temple if you ever want to try completing it

Love the atmosphere. Nice level design too. I explored for a bit before going to the temple. I did manage to get the curse lifted. I didn't need to use the light or crouch. Was there a reason the camera kept zooming in automatically? I wanted it to stay zoomed out but it didn't. Also I think I walked on water.

Here's my game Reporter Rex: The Haunted Theatre

Developer

Good thing you lifted that curse! The camera zooms when you use the across wheel. I left it in from the project I started the player controller script from but I never had the issue of it automatically zooming. Sorry I probably should have mentioned that. Was it happening constantly? Intermittently due to not being aware of it? Would love to hear some feedback on that mechanic and if it needs fixing. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Not sure what across wheel is but it did zoom in automatically when I was walking around and when I'm not pressing any key, if I remember correctly. I recommend removing the zoom in/out mechanic entirely unless you have some specific need for it.

Developer

gotcha thanks for the feedback I'll be removing it for the next one I release after the rating period

Very cool visual style with a nice eerie touch. Well done.

Love the style of this and the sound design matches perfectly to the style

Im not sure why, but the game does not run at all. I downloaded the correct version, extracted it and it shows a super pixelated unity logo and then fades to black with the crow sounds n stuff?

Developer

hey I just uploaded a DirectX11 version could you try that one out and let me know if it works please? :D

Works!

The game is really cool, the ambiance of it and the gloomines is really well done, the fog revealing the enemies eyes is also quite nice. But the enemies have quite a bad ai, they are faster than you but turn slower and stop chasing you after like 5 seconds so it just run in a circle for 5 seconds and continue my way, the chase music is also very scary. I walked trough the oceans and visited the big rocks! It got quite lost. The lantern glitching into stuff was quite funny.

As far as the soundesign goes, its solid, but the crows are way too loud, the chords could have been a bit more in the background, behind a dark drone or something. More reverb in the mountain area would have made it so much better and immersive, its quite simple to setup in unity aswell (reverb zones)!

The game would be much scarier if the enemy encounter was alot more controlled and had some tension built beforehand, and less slowly roaming around and not being to detect the player once it is behind them. And being seen was quite low stakes since I could just run in a circle to avoid the enemy (The player will always play your game the way you did not intend lol). It just stopping after 5 seconds felt quite cheap and not so scary, it's very hard to balance thease chase sequences cause you want it to be hard to outrun but still not have a faster core speed than the player to make it fair.

Besides the AI, the game is really well put together, the graphics are stunning for a jam game.

For 3 days, this is an amazing submission, goodjob.

Also this does not regard anything with game design and is just a side note, the game size is quite big for how small of a game it is, you should deffinetly look into optimizing your games size

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Yeah it's myfirst time making a game with this kind of mechanics. I definitely didn't mean for the AI to feel so cheap but I opted for non frustrating where I could (perhaps a bit too much). I plan to make an updated version of this with more polished mechanics and sound design and I'll be taking what you said into consideration. Thanks so much for playing it!

Loved the style and ambiance, very atmospheric. I wasn’t really sure what to do tho and got lost, ended up walking across ocean lol. The custom animations for getting killed were a nice touch!

Developer (1 edit)

Walking across the ocean is entirely valid LOL I didn't get around to making the instructions for the beginning of the game but I wrote about the goal in the game page. I apologize if that was confusing the goal is to find the temple to lift the curse. Thanks for playing I hope you enjoyed!

Submitted(+1)

Curse lifted! I read that you weren't able to finish your game but what you do have looks great! The environment and the aesthetic look amazing. I genuinely jumped when I turned around and saw the red eye monster right behind me the first time lol

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

Managed to lift the curse! In the end it turned out to be better to not use the lamp since I couldn’t outrun the creatures. It needs a little guidance toward the right direction since the map is pretty big but the vibes were great!

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing I hope you enjoyed the experience of it! I did mean for the player to get lost in the fog but I may include some more landmarks in the future to help with that. Thank you for the feedback! :D

Submitted(+1)

The environment is spooky, and the fog make it much better! But it needs player guidance to the goal or it just brute force the way through the end. Pretty cool

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

hey thanks for playing! I put a little guidance in the game page but its really rough and I just barely got it done in time because I was busy. The goal is to make it to the temple but I plan to expand on these ideas more later after the jam

PS: the goal is to make it to the temple
