Very fun but challenging, the long section as a ghost was above my skill level. Would love to see a volume slider in a future build
Very challenging platformer
the two forms lead to a lot fun level designs
i think to hit boxes for the bats might be a bit to unforgiving
regardless very good job!
The phantasmi-shift mechanic is absolutely solid. And it shone through with your level designing.
I loved the aesthetic (color palette, music, art style. All of it.).
I don't see too many works with pumpkin based protagonists (maybe I'm not looking hard enough). Was reminded of Billy and Mandy's, Harum Scarum game. If you've heard of that (because pumpkins).
I don't play many platformers. And this seemed to be one of the more advanced kinds. From what I know it reminded me of the rage platformers or geometry dash (that mist corridor part).
It was both funny and emotionally painful to become a ghost, then immediately smash into a cloud wall. But since I assumed you were going for a semi-rage platformer, my frustration was part of the experience. I NEEDED to beat those bats.
Your game forced me to rise above my limits. And I thank you.
I'm proud to announce,
I AM the squash master.
Really cool idea! Took me a minute to figure out the mechanic but I think I understand. I wasn't able to find the second (or maybe third) pumpkin unfortunately, but still had fun! Awesome work!
I wasn't very good at it but it was fun regardless XD If you were to keep working on this game after the jam I'd suggest having the difficulty ramp up a bit slower
I am planning to extend the section between the first pumpkin and the first bat actually.
"I am Squash Master"
^ I swear this should be a meme
The theme you went with was really good. flying as a ghost is a really cool mechanic and its balanced with the cloud blocks that you can die from. I guess my only negative is that its a bit hard to learn in the beginning, because you die so fast as a ghost, the player thinks "Wait what just happened?"
Overall this is a good game.
Neat game but great idea here. Difficult to get through so might want to tweak some of the early platforms so they’re easier. Don’t want to discourage people right off the start. Good job!
Difficult but fun! I have mastered the squash!
Tough to hit the dots when you die but a cool idea. Reminds me of Celeste and the gold feathers. Great job!
I quite enjoy the overall mechanics of the game.
It was a more difficult platformer + a kind of funny snake game interpretation for sure. but I prevailed and earn my title of squash master.
I like the music, kinda goes in theme with the retro super duper difficult games of the past. The sounds are also cool.
They thing I didn't enjoy was the set resolution of the game, which was set to be really tiny on the screen without an option to enlarge it, so my eyes felt strained after playing the game. I thought some parts of the levels also feel a bit annoying/unfair too, but maybe that could be curbed a bit in the future.I also thought the parallax background was a bit confusing, since as mountains far away, they still seem to move too fast.
A nice entry overall though, but would love to see some more improvement still :)
Yeah the next update of the game is going to have the parallax move half as fast, not sure why I set it so high. The resolution is set to a static 640x480 because I'm stupid and don't know how to get Godot to scale things up properly lol. I would like it to scale to 960x720 and 1280x960, but I still can't figure out how to do it. Thanks for playing!
I think you could take a look at this short tutorial for the project settings in Godot, relevant info starts around 2:00.
As for the settings on the Itch game page, check the Fullscreen Button in your project edit page. This is my page settings.
Hope this helps!
I found a way of scaling it without black bars while still keeping the aspect ratio. Added some border art. Should be easier to play on large screens now.
this was cute!! i liked the take on "you die, but it assists you" that i've seen in platformers so far, quite creative!
Great game, very creative, i think the difficulty ramps ups too quickly but i have a really good time with this game.
Please rate our game if possible <3.
A lot of Halloween vibes from this game! Really liked it!
I am the squash master!
Nice tiny platformer. Shift is completely optional is what I learned from reading the controls after instead of before playing
Yeah there's some tight jumps and holding shift can make them easier. But you also have coyote time to help you.
Very cute concept and good use of the theme!
Cute concept and art style with some interesting and thematic gameplay! Having two sets of tiles change between solid and nonsolid depending on your current state is a cool idea. Was fun and challenging (maybe a little bit too challenging at times) but I liked it, great job!
Edit: How could I have forgotten the music? I loved it and thought it matched the theme of the game as a whole very well!
Very challenging!
Great & challenging game that uses the jam's theme in a pretty unique way.
