Amazing artwork, my goodness did the artists go hard on this game.

I found it a good way to dip my toes in the water that is these types of games, as I don't usually play them. I liked the experience, well done for something made in 5 days.
Also, maybe make defensive dice more useful, I found myself only using offensive dice.

Developer

All of the art credit goes to Lusk. They tackled it single-handedly. Monarch did the Curtain animation and Death Background. The character Sprites and all other art was Lusk. They're incredible.

you forgot the hit sprites :sob: i spent like two hours drawing those

im just poking fun anyway, dw!! lusk really does go incredibly fucking hard!!

We absolutely love what you've done with the game, and thank you for calling out the person at the top of most rated. I can't believe he's deceiving so many people into rating his game with copy pasted generic feedback. Worst thing is, the project was submitted immediately, meaning it probably was made prior to the competition. The text was added to the game in a later update, likely to fit the theme. It's super unfair to people who put their all into the jam :( i feel so bad for all the people being deceived

This game was insane! By far one of if not the most visually impressive game in the jam. You guys hit it out of the park! This was such a beautiful game, and I'm shocked you could put it together within the time frame! Great job!

where do i even start. first off i had no idea what i was doing because the tutorial was on the itch page and not in the game so i'm expecting an essay about why its your fault i didnt know what i was doing. secondly the game was unbelievably easy. i beat the final boss and she didn't even deal a single point of damage to me. third off the art was so gorgeous that i couldn't even play the game without having to take a moment to york it. fourth off you ripped the dice mechanic straight from the binding of isaac. fifth off you killed my cat marcello. i can't even believe it.

You have a point on the art thing though, these characters are very pretty.

Developer(+1)

I am very sorry, please do not sue us for not putting the tutorial in :(

Awesome art style and great mechanics, everything looks and feels so cool.

I did unfortunately run into the game breaking bug during the Death fight in the web build, hope it's fixed soon.

Developer

We did get permission from Ducky to push a bug fix for that specific bug, so it will be fixed ASAP!

the art & music goes crazy hard, && I LOVE GAMBLING!! i don't even NEED defensive attacks im all in. I rlly enjoyed the story and concept!! I used my real pet name not knowing the story at all so i went in feeling like the Doom guy getting revenge over my lil bunny. bargaining was my fave design by far,, I love the foxy guy &  that implied symbolism as well (if intentional.. omg i could be reading into things) -- I think for feedback my only thing is my laptop can freeze up & lose frames when I fullscreen applications, so it was hard to read the text haha, thankfully the awesome voice actors helped a lot with that!! I wish there was more dice!! I can def see this becoming a full fledged slay the spire esque game!!

Developer(+1)

The symbolism was intentional! Thank you for picking up on that! Each of the five stages was meant to represent what they symbolically mean. Anger being a furnace, etc.

The game was very beautiful and i love the project moon vibes!
it's clear the scope of this game was very big, and you've delivered on most fronts
I do wish however there was another layer of depth to the combat, i found myself mainly using slash throughout the whole game. but it's clear that the main direction thing the game was aiming for was story, and it delivered on that expertly! this game has a lot of potential and i would love to see more from the developers!

also it would be cool if i could see the pet so i could get attached to them early.

yall are cool<3!!! I think this game has some of the most promise from this jam as a whole, and I would be very surprised to hear that it doesn't win in at least one of the categories

WAHHHH LOVE THE GAME! THE ART STYLE! THE MECHANICS! [and is it just me or did the angel of death sound kinda hot?]

man i REALLLY gotta fix that bug huh, ill ask ducky about it and see if our overlords grant us permission

Really impressed by the art, music and voice acting! Gameplay also felt really smooth and I didn't encounter any bugs or oddities until the fight with Death at the end, when one of their dice beating mine froze the game. The only other small criticism I'd say is that I didn't always get how the dialogue of each of the characters related to the stage of grief they were supposed to represent. For example, I liked that Acceptance seemed to accept its fate quickly, but Anger didn't seem angrier than Denial/Depression and Depression didn't really seem depressed nor did it seem like they wanted you to be depressed. I think this also could have been a narrative tool like for the hero character / player to sort of reflect each of these stages. It was unclear if that was the intent behind some of the dialogue or not. Regardless, I did really enjoy it and gave a 5 star rating. Really really excellent for a game jam, especially in under 5 days. Just wanted to give more detailed feedback in case you want to pursue this project a bit further!

Really blown away by the scope of the game and the art style. Unfortunately I encountered a bug when fighting death and couldn't progress further.... the screenshot is of when i froze up. All the sounds were still playing and the background animations were still going but the characters were stuck

Submitted

I had this happen as well. Death's 3rd dice beat mine and it froze on the same animation.

Developer(+1)

This is unfortunately a known bug. We're going to work on getting a fix out ASAP.

This game was amazing, and I was engrossed beginning to end. I would love to see a larger scale visual novel by this team if the opportunity ever arose!!

Very striking art style and the voice acting was a nice touch! Cool dice mechanic, too - great job, team!

Very good mechanics and voice acting, congrats!!

It would mean a lot if you could rate my game too! https://fernando-ferreira.itch.io/death

i loved the combat mechanic, it was super interesting!! it was a bit of a pain in the butt to have to start from the very very beginning when you died, but we prevailed! i think a nice option would be a way to get back health, whether that's backing out of a fight to go collect or confront something, or trying to steal health. i loved the design especially, and the way the lore is built up. it was super fun!

Submitted(+3)

Great game, great polish. Voice acted, very visually appealing, and the mechanics were fun. Thought the take on the theme was creative and fitting. I personally didn't have any issues with the die drop mechanics. Nice and clean!

Amazing art and music. Also, first time I hear GOOD voice acting in a jam game. Well done!

Gameplay wise I had a few issues with dragging the dice, they just wouldn't drop in the section I wanted them to (this was the web build)

(+1)

yeaaaah the slots are a bit dingy, i think this is a godot issue more than a web issue because _on_mouse_entered and _on_mouse_exited are actually incredibly fucking unreliable

Submitted(+3)

Very fun and interesting combat! The voice acting is also really great!

Submitted(+2)

I really like this fighting mechanic!! I also love the sketchy black and white art style. Unfortunately my game bugged on the fight with Death and I couldn't finish. It a shame so many dice effects couldn't be implemented because of bugs. I'd love to play a fully patched version in the future!

Developer(+1)

The Epilogue for the story is on the Itch page. We do have plans to patch the bug as soon as we're able.

The bugs are really because of time constraints and my laziness, really >.< as you can see on the alert section, the framework was already built for the Brackeys jam, those bugs had existed since then, and I had fixed a few of the bugs, but owing to extreme fucking incompetence from my side I forgot to commit the local branch I was on that fixed those bugs during the final few hours of jam rush, man, sorry for that >.<
