Thanks for playing! Really enjoyed your game as well!

Thanks for playing!

This was actually, somehow, one of my favourites from this jam. It just felt fun, silly, and fresh. I made almost every combination, and never got tired of your friend's voicework, haha. Keep it up, man!!

Really loved this little game. The writing and background art were my favourite parts, but I liked everything! Only tiny nitpick feedback is that the left edge of the dialogue text tended to overlap a tiny bit with the character portraits; it didn't affect the overall legibility on my monitor but just a little thing to fix if you work on this project post-jam. Thanks for making such a cute little game :)

Fun start to the game. I kept getting a Failed to Load error, I think for with blow3.ogg. I could keep clicking Retry and then move or advance dialogue for a second before the error would pop up again. I couldn't enter the building for the followup after defeating Carol, but I assume that's because you ran out of time. For your next jam I recommend only including a shop if it's essential to gameplay, most people won't care unless they need one to win. Really liked that you worked on this with your sibling and am so glad you had fun. Really hope you continue making games together!

Really ambitious for a solo dev's first game jam. Congratulations on completing & submitting a game! Was fun to play although if no one else had commented I wouldn't have realised I should try dashing as a ghost to phase through the gate, I thought you'd just run out of time and that was the end for a moment. But I got to the boss fight after that! Similarly, on my first run I immediately killed all the monsters before realizing I needed them to kill me. The enemies were very slow and not very good at doing much, haha. Another issue was that the hitboxes felt off; it often looked like I was hitting them or they were hitting me, but noone was taking damage. Still, though, was a fun little game. Huge project to take on for your first jam. Great job.

Very fun, simple game! Loved this take on the theme, very funny.

Couldn't play nor rate, unfortunately. Was looking forward to this one, but both my browsers & Windows Security flagged it as containing a virus. For some other games I was able to bypass a warning about "unknown publisher" but for this game my computer seems to think there's specifically a trojan virus in "Death Is An Opportunist.zip"

Thanks so much for playing! Interesting bug, I'll make a note of it. Thanks for the catch. Loved your game!

Loved this experience. Really beautifully done, in all aspects. But man, for some reason the GameJoy game was one of the hardest games I played in the jam hahaha

Gorgeous game! Vibes were perfect! Really wanted to know what happened after solving the puzzle and "curing" the girl, but I couldn't seem to get anything different/new to happen anywhere in the church. (And couldn't fully leave the church, either.) Tried in browser and the downloadable because I was so invested. Would love to see this developed into a full game. Reminded me a bit of Broken Sword in the best way.

Very ambitious for a game jam. Really loved the art and opening scene. Unfortunately, I think 3/4 of the first enemy hitboxes I encountered weren't set up properly, or bugged out. Maybe that's on me for jumping in the hole almost immediately (if that's not what I was supposed to do), but the toads didn't seem to care about my sword at all. Again, not sure if that's intentional, but it seemed like it wasn't because I had the same issue with the 2nd wasp. Several full swings across it's entire body didn't seem to register like they did with the first wasp. Was interested in following the story but honestly the hitboxes were a bit of a dealbreaker. Maybe I'll try again later :)

Thank you so much! Since it was our first jam we needed to pass on all our more ambitious ideas for the theme, but I think it worked out pretty well for making something unique. The art in yours is much cuter, though! Haha

Would love to see this as a full game! Very ambitious for a 5-day jam. Loved all the 2D & 3D art, and the music. Some small notes... Grandma's dialogues are a bit long, I'd like the ability to interact with things while she's talking without just cutting the dialogue completely, so you can collect evidence while listening. Text prompts on the box sometimes said the wrong thing. I also found some voice lines too quiet compared to the rest. But I imagine these are all things you'd already be looking to include/fix post-jam, given all the care put into this short version already. Only giving this detailed feedback because it seems like it could make a really cute & fun full game, alongside titles like Duck Detective and Cat Detective Albert Wilde. Really liked it, wanted to play longer, great work.

Enjoyed this game! Story is well done. If you keep working on this beyond the jam, definitely prioritize making the movement and collisions feel a bit better, I felt super clumsy bumping into everything checking if there were new notes, haha.

It's 1 reaper for 1 soul; if they finish the one they're assigned to their animation will change to idling (and purple progress bar will disappear, but the bar is behind the reapers so some resolutions/scaling we didn't test for may have a harder time seeing the progress bar). When they're idling you need to click them again to re-activate them, their reaping animation and progress bar will restart :) If we had more time we would've tweaked it more for better communication with the player (and a short tutorial), but with the constraints of the jam, these notes could only be included in the instructions on the menu screen.

Thanks so much for playing! Played & rated your game as well :)

Really liked this puzzle game! Good length given the time constraint, and great difficulty progression. Felt really satisfying to figure out each level, never got frustrated from having to retry too many times. Visuals were simple and effective.

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! Played & rated Pepito ^-^

Great take on the theme. Gets challenging really fast but enjoyable to play nonetheless. Thank goodness other comments mentioned to use the SHIFT key for abilities, or I would've gotten nowhere :)

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah since it was our first jam we wanted to focus on making a good short experience to help avoid overscoping, but if we were to build it out into a full game this would be more like an arcade mode type of thing where everything auto-scales and you just try to last as long as you can, and the other game mode would allow you to choose upgrades after each level or something like that.

Played & rated your game as well! Was fun seeing a totally different 'arcade' type game.

Really liked the music. I actually didn't mind the simple pattern for the first boss, I think for a first guy it's fine especially with more tweaks to the upgrades for each death. Second boss, I think the player's hitbox is actually a bit too small and/or the player's movement speed is a bit too slow; I was begging for death chasing the blue bullets around, haha. Neither of the 1st 2 boss' hit flashes worked consistently for me, they'd usually play/show for the first 1-3 hits and then never show again. The healthbar still went down so I knew I was hitting them but didn't feel very satisfying to do so. If there's a guy after the 2nd one, I didn't get to it, sorry.

Thanks, was able to find it, play and rate :) Nice little game!

Really beautiful game. Tutorial was essential, thanks for including one!! Wasn't always sure why it said "Defeated" when I thought I beat some of the levels. I assume I took too long or something, but the word covered the stats at the end. Maybe would have been better to raise the "Defeated" above the stats and change the stat text/number to red or something to show which area we need to improve on the repeat run. But great work overall!!

You're welcome. I'll follow for updates so I can try again if you keep working on it post-jam. I think for a game jam, especially with hundreds of submissions, it's important to remember some people will only play the first 5, maybe 10 minutes unless they get hooked into playing longer. Your art and ideas are enough to get people interested, so if you focus on that early experience I think you could be really successful in your projects! <3

Held off on rating for now since the download seemed to only have a Shortcut and Data folder, no proper .exe file, and the in-browser version didn't seem to work with my laptop's screen size (even in full screen, some UI and/or other elements appeared to be cut off).

Really impressive scope for a game jam but it almost felt a little too big, in the sense that I was a bit confused about where I was supposed to go and what I was supposed to do. I mostly found blocked paths and was trying to figure out how to use my skills (until realising they were only for separate combat segments). I can tell there's a lot here that I didn't get to, and a lot of ideas and love put into it.

Impactful little experience. Loved the art!

Loved the concept & liked the mix of 2D & 3D. Shame about the overscope because I wanted to play more! Will follow in case you decide to update it post-jam :)

Thanks so much for playing! Glad you liked it. Left a comment on your submission page & looking forward to trying your game, as well.

Really impressed by the art, music and voice acting! Gameplay also felt really smooth and I didn't encounter any bugs or oddities until the fight with Death at the end, when one of their dice beating mine froze the game. The only other small criticism I'd say is that I didn't always get how the dialogue of each of the characters related to the stage of grief they were supposed to represent. For example, I liked that Acceptance seemed to accept its fate quickly, but Anger didn't seem angrier than Denial/Depression and Depression didn't really seem depressed nor did it seem like they wanted you to be depressed. I think this also could have been a narrative tool like for the hero character / player to sort of reflect each of these stages. It was unclear if that was the intent behind some of the dialogue or not. Regardless, I did really enjoy it and gave a 5 star rating. Really really excellent for a game jam, especially in under 5 days. Just wanted to give more detailed feedback in case you want to pursue this project a bit further!

I had this happen as well. Death's 3rd dice beat mine and it froze on the same animation.

No problem, it happens! Had a lot of fun playing your game :)

Was fun discovering the different endings! Liked the mix of 2D & 3D.

Great concept and pretty good execution given the game jam timeframe!

Such a sweet game! Loved the concept, art & music! Didn't encounter any bugs. Would have appreciated beign able to bark upwards & downwards, and/or the evil spirits only being able to kill one ghost pet companion at a time; had 1 skull take out both right away on the last level and it made me sad, haha. Still a 5/5 game! Really enjoyed it.

No problem! I do think in some ways yours is more clear than ours; we implemented difficulty scaling but we didn't have time to implement better ways of communicating to the player what's happening behind the scenes (souls spawn faster, but at certain milestones the car and reaping speeds also get faster). Pros & cons to both approaches for sure. Hope you had fun with the jam! :)

Really fun, wanted more to play! Had to remind myself it was a jam game made in less than 5 days. Amazing work. Loved all the art, music and humour! Only little bug I found was that if you open the instructions on the phone, the back button doesn't work (you can still exit the phone view with the ESC key, though, so it was fine). Easily one of my favourites from the jam.

I've added the game to a collection so I can check back :) Really did like this concept! I'm just not a very skilled gamer ;P
