I loved the artwork is this game! Very beautiful! The concept was great too! The Last of Bugs. Like some others, I also had trouble finding the platforms at first, but after the first level I got the hang of it. Climbing as the spider was badass!

Thanks for previously checking out my game, 9 lives!

Hello! Thank you so much for playing our game and giving feedback!

You've got a foundation for something really good here, however I think the game lacks some important aspects that would have made the experience more satisfying and enjoyable: First, I think feedback is important and I think there's not enough feedback in this game, especially when dying. A screen saying "You Died" or "Game Over" with a Retry button would be enough to send the idea that the player lost. This is important, particularly for this jam's theme since dying might be a good thing (and it is in a lot of games), so making that clear would be important here and would also make the transition more interesting other than just teleporting to the start. Another thing that bothered me a little bit is that the platforms don't have any visual cue that helps the player identify if he can go on top of it or not. In a 2D sidescroller like this I would suggest to separate the layers clearly from the background and make these type of things clearer, otherwhise, you'll find yourself struggling to navigate and falling a lot of times trying to figure out which is a platform or not. That happened to me quite a lot as most of the platforms looked exactly the same as the surrounding environment like the leaves for example. I also think the controls could be a little bit smoother especially with the moth as the flying seemed a little inconsistent to me.

Regardless of the above, I think the game's main mechanic and gameplay is extremely creative and you nailed on the theme here! Really great idea and concept that fits really well with the jams theme! Nothing to complain here!

The art is cool, not my type, but it is well done! Despite the problems that I described above about the platforms, I think that the art itself is well drawn. It just needs the visual feedback and detail that I talked about in the first paragraph. The music is also great and it fits the theme of the game as well.

Overall, I think you've got a really creative idea here that missed a little bit on its execution due to some details missing. But don't worry! The game may have those problems, but the amazing idea, the art and concept makes up for a great foundation to something even greater that you can improve over time! Take the above critics as something to improve in the future and not something negative! As I usually mention with other games, it's just 4/5 days and making a playable game is already an amazing achievement! So congratulations on your submission and amazing idea and art!

Thank you for your feedback! I hadn't thought about the death screen, that's good to consider. And yeah, we're definitely going to find a way to make the platforms more obvious, either with separate texturing or by making what is and isn't a platform a lot more consistent. This was our first game together so a lot of this jam was getting into the flow working with each other. Thank you so much for playing!!

I loved the art and the idea . I'm a bit sad that the web version doesn't support cutscenes, but even without that, it was great.

I would have liked it to be a bit clearer which elements you can land on and where the hitboxes are , as it took some trial and error to figure out that you can jump on this fern, but only in this particular line.

Another thing is the movement , which could be a little smoother for the moth , as well as the jumpy mushroom could be a bit more forgiving. (maybe it's just the web version issue)

Still I had a lot of fun plaing it! Good job!

Developer(+1)

Yeah I definitely want to figure out why the cutscenes didn't work on web and fix that in the future. And definitely working on smoothing out the movement. The mushrooms were a struggle for me play testing it lol. Thank you so much for playing!

I liked the theme — really interesting idea, and the whole fungus thing is super cool. The art looks great too! I did have some trouble  with the platforms in the game.

If you have a moment, I’d love if you could check out mine too!

Cordycepts is an awesome idea for this theme! Exciting concept. I struggled a little with gameplay as I could only play the web version and had a job finding platforms, but it was creepy and interesting.

The creativity behind using cordyceps was really cool, a nice twist for a platformer! The sound design was perfectly creepy and fit the theme really well.

For feedback: it’d help a lot to clearly separate the background from the platforms you can actually step on, and keep that visual consistency throughout. Same goes for interactive elements, like those purple things that kill you. Make them stand out more so players can recognize them right away.

Also don’t forget about visual feedback to the things you interact with.

We planned on adding animations for the mushrooms, dying, and maybe for the poison but unfortunately we just ran out of time in the end. But I agree I think adding some more visuals would be a great idea, thanks for playing!

totally! specially the genre you pick :D dude, the bar on Platformer is set soo high, so be mindful of that.

wish your dev Team good luck on your next Project :)

Very beautifully made! My dumb ass got stuck on the ground as a spider for a little bit but I figured it out at the end.

Beautiful artstyle! Love the concept! Platforming was a bit tricky but I don't really play platform games so that's probably a skill issue on my behalf. I got the spider to jump so high that it no clipped out of the map. Pretty sure it's in the backrooms now lolz

Very fun take on the "Death is an Opportunity" prompt. The art is also very cool! My one criticism is that its sometimes hard to tell what I can walk / land on. Maybe brightening up the walkable platforms and darkening the background for more contrast would help.

Wow the art, the concept, the music, the creeps?? I loved it really scary vibes

Great implementation of a unique idea. awesome art and fun to play! My only compaint was the spiders controls felt abit weird but other than that good job!

Developer

Thank you! We do plan to polish up the controls in the future but with only 5 days we kinda ran out of time, super glad you enjoyed it though!

really eerie and really fun, plus the art style is beautiful

death is an opportunity, to continue the cycle! viva la fungus!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing our game!! I am the artist, it was an ambitious art style but I'm so happy with how it came out. Viva la fungus!

Really nice idea! I found not intuitive to understand where to jump or what was killing me

Developer

Yeah that's fair, it should only be the purple mold and the bats that could kill you, but we're definitely working on the hitboxes n stuff. Thank you for playing!

Very creepy with the music and fungus mechanics. Love the bouncy shrooms.

Cool idea, loved how you used bugs and there fungus. on the spider level at the last jump and hanging, it lanched me on top of the map. but when i played it again it worked fine, so idk. great work!

Developer(+1)

Yeah we found that bug but didn't have enough time to fix it TwT. Thanks for playing!

Very cool! I loved the art and how you implemented the theme. Congrats! I’d love it if you tried my game too!

Submitted(+2)

Fantastic art snd theme! The control were a bit funky, especially in the spider level having to use "w" and "e" at the same time is not optimal, would recommend utilizing the space bar in the future. Speaking of the spider level, I could not progress farther than the first jump, no clue where else or how else to go. I full agree with everyone else, indicators on where exactly the platforms start and end would be much needed change for future versions. Otherwise this was a pretty solid idea ^^

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing our game! Yeah space would definitely be a better option. we're definitely going to brainstorm how to make the platforms more intuitive. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+2)

I like the art and theme! I also had trouble with the mushroom jumps, made it hard to progress, but I think you have good bones for a game here. I could also imagine other mushrooms having other effects to help you build a network of assists to finally make it through the game!
