I get addicted to this game haha!
Well done, very polished. Some art assets can be improved in my opinion, some of them doesn't match with others, but the way you implemented everything is simply great. I would like to play it with sounds!
Very fun and original, easy to understand. Great job with the bot!
Fun. Wanted to see some simple tutorial when playing first time. Unfair game with snakes and bombs, lol.
My stats: 5 losses, 1 draw ๐
At first I thought the rotation is too much for my brain to handle, but after some tries I felt I was getting better and closer to actually get a win. Once I had completed a row, jumped up from my chair and was about to cheer when I saw the board rotate again and break the row (I think it's a valid rule, but it caught me by surprise). I really enjoyed the game once I got the hang of it.
Here are my notes:
You have a very cool project here. Good luck for the development! I will likely challenge the bot for a revenge in the future.
PS: My team member got a win during the first few games...so it's definitely me being a noob :)
Thanks for the feedback.
I released V1.0.5 to incorporate some of these ideas:
Good times.
nice twist on connect 4, a couple notes
- the bomb caused stuttering on my end
- would love some sound
- very nice aesthetic, the animations are smooth and fluid, and you've matched the vibe of your game really well
Thanks for the comment.
> the bomb caused stuttering on my end
Could you share the hardware specs of the device where this occurred? I suspect the stutter came from a fireworks shader I tried to optimize, but I guess not enough.
Really cool take on connect four. I think the special pieces might be a bit much, the rotation is already tricky enough. Maybe replace the special pieces with an option to pass a move and choose a direction to rotate the board. Fun game.
Nicely done. It's hard to predict what the board rotation will do but that's the fun part of it. Is there really no any sound?
I am actually slightly trypophobic but it didn't affect me while playing :)
Yeah, I designed the game to be silent, thinking it would be ideal for mobile play, especially in public spaces where sound might bother others. But Iโve realized that itch jam submissions include a whole 5-star category for sound, and skipping it probably hurt my score.
Lesson learned for future jams: include sound, but make it optional.
Yeah definitely feels like sound malfunction, even if intentional. At the least you can put a note on the title screen saying that the game is silent. Togglable sound would be better, of course.
Haha, that's too tough for me. I gave up after I lost twice. With all the power ups and the different rotations my head can not see past the next step.
Interesting puzzle, simple enough to understand the rules (even that I lost), good implementation.
I love the innovative gameplay on an old desk game. The backgrounds are a bit of a distraction. Love the AI, from experience I know that that is quite hard to make, even with such a simple game.
This was a neat twist on connect 4. The board rotating added a nice extra layer to the strategy of the game. It was also really nice that you could either play with another person or against the computer.
Adding sound would definitely help make this feel like a complete game. Having a SFX for when the board rotates, for each of the special chips, and when someone connects 4, as well as some background music would add a lot.
I also think it might be nice if there was an option to turn off the glare effect that swipes across the board. I think it's a cool idea, but personally found it distracting and a little headachy after a while. I'm not sure if the direction of the effect is suppose to be a clue as to which way the board is going to rotate, so I might have been paying more attention to it than was meant to be.
An eye for an eye =)
I quite love the twist on the connect 4 game.
In the past a made a "5 in a row" prototype using godot's the tilemap. It doesn't seem like you used a tilemap so I am wondering how the game is structured.
The only thing that I would change is the power button, mby add some sprites to indicate the current power up.
Nicely done ! It's a nice little project !
perhaps you could add a little bit of sound to cross this line from prototype feeling to the feeling of playing a proper game.
Well done to publish your first game only one month after starting your journey !
Nice game! I also reviewed it on Google Play ๐ I wasn't able to understand the rotations for some reason lmao, maybe I'm dumb but if possible pls make the rotations easier to understand ๐ but overall Nice animations, and overall polish, just u can add some sound effects and music to make it even better, all da best!
Thanks for the feedback.
The concept behind the rotation hints is similar to how upcoming moves are previewed in rhythm games like Just Dance, where the next 3 steps appear and slide to the right as they approach and disappear. Could it be that the arrows are too small? Or perhaps the animation lacks clarity? Insights appreciated.
All the best to you too.
Nope, I think the arrows and animation are probably good, I think it's just me, maybe because I am not familiar with games like Just Dance, I think I will figure it out if I look for it well enough! ๐
By the way I'm trying to rate your game on your itch io page too, but I can't find a rate option for some reason, it just shows Rate for Improve My Game Jam, maybe it will appear once the voting period on the jam is over?
