Not sure if I'm reading the prompts wrong, but I can't seem to get over the second pit. I press down, and jump and then I should be firing a laser?

Developer

Hello! so the horseshoe actually functions like the jump orb in geometry dash, u can jump while touching it. we tried to clear that up in the post jam version which will be out soon (:

Submitted

Ah, that's what that is. Yea, I hope it'll be clearer next version. I did also notice a down arrow in the first pit, perhaps you can put that above the pit and the dash instruction below.

You got this wrong. The theme was "unlucky", not "evil". This sure was a tough ride.

The game is well done, definitely more a rage game than a platformer. I especially hated you for the horseshoe climb.

Not sure why I'm supposed to leave half of the screen out, not much of a spoiler there, but here you go.

The artwork is great, the audio too. The music can be a bit repetitive after dying a lot, but in those moments that's the least of my problems :D

There are minor bugs, once after loading a mirror i intentionally left undamaged for the moment was already broken, another time a ladybug kept respawning even though I got it before, but that's minor issues and not game breaking as they were close by.

Edit: screenshot didn't show up properly. I sure hope you pull through with that hall of fame :P

Developer

Hey! thanks for playing this deeply haha.

Yes I gotta admit the rage is definitely a bit much, though people who finish it like you make me happy it turned out so raging :D

The half screen is just so that no one else copies the screenshot and sends it, never thought of it but the nice fella before you did it and told me.

the bugs are very interesting.. I never intentionally implemented a spawning/respawning system the whole level should be loaded from the start, though it might be an automatic engine thing.. I would love if you specify which lady bug kept respawning so that we have a clue for it, and I know it’s probably not what you’re referring to but in the long vertical area there is 2 lady bugs. Thanks in advance and will def add this to our todo list!|

Count on us for the hall of fame!

It was close to the end, the ascend with multiple ladybugs which is followed by the save point attached to the wall. The ladybug respawning was always on top of the ascend, though iirc they move up and down, so that probably doesnt clarify it.

The mirror that was broken after loading even though I didnt touch it was before that, somewhere on the right end of the level, after the horseshoe climb, pretty much next to a save point.

I'm not sure this will necessarily keep someone from just taking a screenshot and reposting it, they could even just cut off a bit so its not identical. Let's just hope people in this jam play it fair...

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback! will look into it. also dam good point about the screenshot

This game is awesome!! The cat design and animation are so charming. The gameplay is very thoughtful and clever. The music and sound effects are stellar. Everything fits the theme perfectly. And I love the idea of counting each item you successfully "unluckify."

I personally wish that it was easier and smoother because that's my personal preference even as an experienced platform player, but I understand not every game is made for me. You could consider allowing players to choose a difficulty level at the start and design new levels that are easier or simply add hearts so you don't die immediately and increase the jump height.

But overall, I think you made a really cool game! Great job!

Developer

Thanks! and I agree about the difficulty, We might change something in the post jam version (:

This was really fun to play.  Very challenging! I didn't realize until after that I had to break the mirrors and go under ladders.  That makes it even harder!

Developer

Thanks for playing

Love this. It's rare to find an enjoyable platformer in a game jam. good job.

pretty fun platformer. i was really struggling early on with one of the vertical segments (I think maybe the 5th or 6th objective). some of the time, the ladder would fall on me and sometimes it wouldn't. i also think the mirror won't smash when you are falling or maybe too late in the jump. still pretty cool even if a bit difficult for me...

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! yes for the ladders you have to walk not dash, it was a weird artistic choice from my part but I think dashing through ladders just defeats their purpose and when we realized that we didn’t have time to think of a good way to balance it. the mirror thing I’m actually not sure! will check that out. thanks for playing (:

Wow... I find the game difficult, but it’s fun. I also think the mechanics and the graphics are great!

Developer

Thank you (:

Fun game, took me a minute in the beginning but I got used to it. Didnt realise i could eat the ladybugs until i read the description though, I was making it harder for myself lol.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

So, I will say I enjoy platformers so I felt right at home here. It took me a second to get used to the mirrors and the ladders, so maybe more guidance there in game would help, but overall I would say I had fun with this. I felt like it was challenging, but not really frustrating. You just have to be okay with dying a lot, though you mitigated my issues with dying by placing enough checkpoints. I appreciate the work that went into this game, so good job!

Thanks for playing and your feedback!

Solid platforming, and nice use of the theme!
Breaking objects and creating hazards in the same action is a fun idea, but I dashed into the mirror and landed on glass shards the first time. :-)
Skill issue I guess...

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! yes the game can get quite frustrating with those mirrors haha maybe we should tone it down in the post jam…. or maybe we should triple down..

The gameplay is so engaging and frustrating in a good way i loved it! Really smooth and fun controls too.

Developer

Glad you liked it (: that was what we were trying to go for!

[ Spoiler part of the ending graphic is intentionally left out ]

That was fun! A little janky at times, but the level design made good use of all the mechanics in clever ways, and I enjoyed my time getting around the levels. The timing was tight, but manageable, and checkpoints were reasonably spaced. That said, with how much I died, I did start wishing the respawn was just a tiny bit quicker.

I like how cerebral the sound effects and music are. It reminds me of PS1 audio, in a good way! The volume options are also appreciated.

The cat is cute!

Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and completing the game!! and darn good idea to censor it lol. I understand about the jankiness hopefully that will be reduced in the post jam version. as someone who also died a lot, I AGREEEE the spawn time will def have to be reduced. Thanks for the thoughtful feedback

The graphics and audio are incredible here. That said, I could only play for about 5 minutes before giving up due to being unable to complete the tutorial right after the dash intro—I kept landing short of the safe area in spite of me trying all kinds of attempts to time my jumps just right on the web build and/or using combinations of jump and dash. What am I missing here?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I did answer on disc lol but just incase anyone has the same problem:

The “jump” text on the horseshoe is to indicate jumping using the horseshoe, it’s a bit like a GB jump orb where if you jump using it it gets flipped, you need it to be facing down so it counts in your score.

Thanks for the tip! I played a bit more but I got stuck and gave up again after hitting a death loop at a respawn point shortly after breaking another mirror a little further along:

Its possible to avoid dying by moving right the moment you spawn. At least that works for me. Since the cat spawns a bit in the air, you can avoid the spikes before you land on them.

Also, make sure to backtrack now while you still can, there are two horseshoes right before that save point that you seem to have missed, judging from the numbers on your screenshot.

I hate those horseshoes...

While i acknowledge my skill with difficult platformers is pretty low. I got to respect how well things were implemented. The movement tech is precise, the hazards go well with the theme , and the pixel art and music were pretty fun to behold.

I can see this being highly replayable in speed runner circles

Developer

I knew I should have put a timer leaderboard ): Thanks for playing!
