Here is my gameplay video if needed:
---I forgot to record my gameplay, but I actually beat the game on a second run. It was pretty fun, but... Hm... Perhaps it's not that balance. I believe I got something like q in the first or second run, but couldn't last that long, as there are not that many words with "q". Then I got "e", and I won the game, as there are a lot of objects with "e". Perhaps, if the objects are much more common, it's gonna be easier to understand, as some objects are not that easy to tell at a glance. But perhaps that's also the idea, to trick the viewer into thinking an object is something else, so they will fail in the game, which is "fair".
Thank you for pointing this out and playing the game! :) I appreciate your feedback!
Honestly not sure what could be done for furthering this game aside from maybe just increasing difficulty or making it have a scaling difficulty, as it is, the game is fine but quickly gets old as there's not much more to do.
Thank you for playing the game and giving feedback! :)
A pretty basic game, but had a lot of charm
Thank you!
Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
An interesting idea. Honestly, I just have one real problem with it: what's the point? I always feel this way about high score games as I'm a very narrative driven person who likes an intended end to a game, so it's always something that crosses my mind in games like this.Beyond that, I do feel like this could be better. For starters, it starts off a lot harder than it ends as the number of items on the field seems to decrease as you collect more. I get this feel that as you acquire more of the objective item, items on the field that are outside of your vision will change into whatever you're after instead of having new items populate the field. This makes the "bullet hell" aspect of it diminish greatly, even when factoring in how the trail behind you does have an impact on your vision if you loop too fast on yourself.
I also feel like it shouldn't just stay at the same letter until you mess up, yet it also shouldn't change letters when you DO mess up. What I think would work is if after a certain number of items, the letter changes and you have to acquire new stuff. Obviously it shouldn't be sprung on them suddenly, instead telling them. Of course, there's one another idea that I think could work: the letter changes EVERY time and you have to form words. I'll use the word goblin for an example. You first find an apple with a G on it, then another apple with an O on it. Then you find the floating butt; this qualifies as the B. With this, you now introduce a lot more of a challenge as the constant changing of letters will keep you on your toes. On top of this, you also wouldn't need to "change" items when you start running out of items related to that letter. You instead just need to keep spawning new stuff in. Each game could be based around a set of words, and you just always spawn items from the entire set of letters (with some weight towards letters seen more often in the set of words). This, I think, would also fit into the whole "smart" idea of the game as you're now doing something smart: spelling. I could then see this being a great tool for teach kids how to spell and recognize both letters and objects that start with a letter (though in that situation, a few of the objects will need to be redone. I don't think parents would appreciate the nude or the butt images, even if kids would find them funny).
That's all I got. I hope this helps you! :D
Thanks so much for your detailed feedback!! I really appreciate your taking the time to write it and give such insightful and specific suggestions.
I especially found it helpful how you explained the issue with the lack of goals the game provides. I'm definitely taking that into consideration for the future, and I'm looking to add mechanics that provide more of a point to the game. I also think spelling words is a very cool idea that I hadn't considered.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you again for playing my game and your feedback!
I'd appreciate a link to the VOD as well!
It's peak. Better then silksong, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA game
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :)
If I may ask, what was your favorite thing about Smart-Attack? π
I played the browser version.
What the heck was this game? π€£π€£π€£π€£The premise is quite cool, actually--a cartoon donkey on a hoverboard collecting items/letters that matched the letter on screen. I could see this being useful for kids--provided there was some "Cleanup" if you will (tame it down to G/PG). As it is, it's quite hilarious. I did not expect a pair of buttcheeks to show up, but then you ARE a donkey, and ass--well, you get the joke π€£
Controls are fine and easy to use. Music is LOUD. If there's a way you can add in an option to adjust volume, that would be great. I was surprised to see that you could actually *win* in the game. Maybe add in a "collect 100 items to win" at the start, or however many the total is needed.

Thank you so much for playing my game!! I had a blast watching your stream and laughed out loud multiple times. I really appreciate that you took the time to play it -- multiple times, even -- and your feedback is very helpful!
I'm glad the game comes off as hilarious, that's what I was going for π€£
I agree that it has potential as an educational kids game. I've been playing with the idea of doing a similar spinoff game that's fully kid friendly, while also continuing this unhinged, "deranged educational game" concept separately.
Finally, I have already coded in volume controls for the next version.
Thanks again! π
I think this was a cute little game, that I landed on was potentially an educational game. I think the basis could be really solid on a mobile phone to hand to a kid and have them learn letter and word association. Expanding the number of objects and working towards having kids learn various definitions of words. I don't know if it was what you were going for in general, but it's really where I felt like it could shine.
Thanks so much for playing my game!! I really enjoyed watching the recording of your stream and hearing your feedback. Great chill vibes!
I agree that the concept could be a good educational kids game, and I'm currently trying to figure out how to best use that concept. This game was meant for an older audience (hence the retro PC game aesthetics and the "cheeky" jokes) but since it was a quick jam game, I don't know if that came through very clearly. As I continue developing it, I'm evaluating the idea of also doing a spin-off with very similar gameplay, but specifically for kids.
Thanks again!
Okay, this is more fun than I expected! It's a really simple game, but I like the graphics and the premise a lot.
It was really clever that you not only needed to gather apples with the correct letter on them, but also items that started with the correct letter. That was silly but fun. It would be nice though if there were a directory of the images to tell you what they are, because for example I wasn't sure if the one with a censored bar was "c" for censored, or "n" for naked. Having a way to just look at all of them from the menu system would be cool.
The goal is really easy to understand for this game, and I appreciate that as you get close to the end it tells you that you have x amount of items left to snag. That is a fantastic feature in my eyes.
It is not clear however if the letter on the goal apple is case sensitive to what you're gathering. Not sure if it's intentional for the player to not know at the start, but unless you intended for trial-by-fire, having that be part of the explanation would be good.
If I had anything I'd really change, it's the volume level of the music. It was so loud to me, and there was no way to adjust the volume within the game itself to account for this. It might be fine for someone who's only playing that game and has nothing else to listen to, as they could just turn the system volume down, but when I'm streaming or if I'm chilling in a VC and playing, or playing and listening to a podcast, then that's not an option as I have other things I also need to be listening to, too.
Overall though I really enjoyed your game, and I think you've got a good thing going!
My VOD with your game bookmarked for a timestamp is here:
Oh my god thank you so much!! This is really helpful feedback and I had a blast watching the stream.
I'm glad you enjoyed the graphics and objects. (The toilet is one of my faves, loool) Working on adding even more silly stuff to collect.
I will definitely implement volume settings -- I was actually working on that today after I initially saw your post. Having a more clear goal set from the start of the game is also a planned feature, as I plan more rougelite-esque features.
As for the items and words, each item actually has multiple words associated with it (synonyms), so trial by fire is what I intended. There are a looooot of synonyms. (D actually IS a correct answer for the naked guy, lol) Since it's easy to lose your combo, though, I'll work on making it less punishing to discover new words and maybe find a way to hint at the possibility early on without making it too obvious. I plan to have a dictionary of words as well.
Anyway, thanks again for your feedback! :) Appreciate you taking the time to play my game!
Forgot to add this, but I'm curious what was your initial impression or expectation of the game was before playing? If you don't mind sharing.
Hey, I just played your game.
Controls are good and arts are really nice.
It took me a while to figure out where the hit box is. At first I thought it was the whole donkey π
Good game for kids ;)
Well done!
Thank you for playing! :)
I'm thinking of making some changes to the hitbox in a future version to make it a bit more clear. Glad you enjoyed the graphics and controls!
