Max Score 63! Very fun game! The sling on browser was a bit finniky, would love to play on mobile!

Dang my high score is 99 points haha.

This game is very enjoyable. Very polished with nice sound and visual effects. I was worried going in that I would be confused and don't rememeber what eats what, but I'm pleased to see it's already color coded for me. The game mechanics and the eating visuals are very satisfying.

One thing that I didn't like however is the dashing mechanics. I thought it goes too fast and is very awkward to initiate in any case. It requires you to stop before dashing in a game where you always wants to be moving. Once it dashes, it also goes too fast in such a tiny game arena and it just becomes chaotic. I found myself to be using the dash mechanics very sparingly, even with the score bonus incentive.

But overall, it's a well made game otherwise. Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing, glad you liked it! A agree about the dashing, I intended it to be a risk/reward mechanic so it’s kinda on purpose but it needs more balancing.

It's a very good game that fits the theme perfectly! I love the controls, just chaotic enough to keep things interesting without becoming annoying. And I also appreciate the fact that all the shapes behave the same way as the player, it really feels like being part of a looping food chain.

Perfect example for me of simple and effecient design for a jam! 5/5 (and the sounds makes it even more addictive omg)

Very good game, everything is well done, love the concept and geometric art style, simple but efficient . Well Done :)

Love this a lot! The visuals and audio are very stylish, and the gameplay loop is a lot of fun, especially when getting multiple shapes in one shot! Would be a lot of fun to play on a touch screen too, the especially with the pull back and release mechanic. Awesome work!

Honestly impressive! :o

Apart from Narrative, you scored everything perfectly: the game is creative, enjoyable, the visuals are incredible (the swallowing effect, the use of dynamic colours to help the player see what to eat and what to dodge, the old screen effect)...

Easy to understand at a glance, the controls work perfectly, I can't find any negatives: for a game jam entry, you did very well!

And since you named your game after Shi-fu-mi... Excellent travail à l'équipe, franchement bravo ! =D

Merci beaucoup :D

Very stylish game, great job!)

The SDF shape swallowing is just so satisfying. I love it so much.

Also, perfect artwork. Triangles, Squares and Circles only, as all games should be.

The sound is really well done, even the first sound of the logo slamming down.

Just hats off. Loved it.

I sit alone in my room repeating "circle square triangle circle" endlessly as the damn shapes evade me...

This is the most unique game I've found in this jam. The way it interprets the theme is completely different from other games I've seen. The fun scoring system and satisfying gameplay loop add tons of replayability to this (I've played this at least 5-6 times with varying scores)

It's super addicting and insanely fun! I'll be shocked if I don't see this in the GMTK winner's video

Loved the retro-video visuals on this!

Super polished and fun to play!

Really interesting concept and well executed! I think adding powers up you could buy after every iteration based on the points would also make the gameplay more progressive!

The minimalistic style is done really well in this game with the post processing effects and the visual polish. The consuming effect was really satisfying. Audio was also done very nicely, and fits perfectly with the visuals and gameplay. The foodchain is also a really interesting game mechanic and a unique interpretation of the theme, and the fact that the environment acts without the player too is a really interesting dynamic. Overall a very well polished and thought out game. Well done!

Great game! It seems simple, but it's sooo fun and addictive! Love the minimalistic style and an upbeat music, it really adds to the experience

Very cool game, loved how you were able to make a simple game loop very fun and addicting. I felt like I was able to master in and play well at a quick pace. Lots of fun

Addictive game, with the combo system it is satisfing

I liked the absorbing effect (marching square ?)

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thanks! It’s actually an upscaled low res render texture, with a custom shader that sharpens the whole thing, so that the blurred edges of the shapes appear to merge. It’s basically the old “metaballs” trick used to achieve pseudo liquid simulation in many games

The game’s mechanics are really well done, and the CRT-style visuals are top-notch it honestly feels like you’re being pulled into the past.
