Thank you very much for your comment :)
It took me at least two days to finish the backgrounds, but I'm quite proud of the result. I even managed to create simple animations with the “Tiled Background” object.
The main mechanics weren't that complicated to set up. You just need to give the chickens a little push upwards and to one side when an area of the screen is touched (with a certain speed threshold that mustn't be exceeded so that the chickens don't go too fast). For the rest, if all objects have physical behavior, then all objects interact with each other naturally (and chaotically too ^^).
However, this was the first time I had used physics to this extent in a game, so I would be lying if I said I didn't struggle with how certain objects worked.
I also made a beginner's mistake by not taking delta time into account when managing the chickens and propellers, which means that depending on the FPS and/or refresh rate of your screen, the physics may behave differently. This may explain why you found it a little slow. Because, sure, these chickens aren't speed demons, but they don't seem that slow to me either... (at least I don't think so).
Thank you very much!
Yes, I hesitated to include a short tutorial section to explain the controls, but then I thought it would overload the beginning of the game.
I'm glad you enjoyed the radios. It took me quite a while to design them (not to mention the voice recording phase, live on my stream, which was quite comical ^^)
Thanks again for coming back to comment :)
Thank you for trying again!
If the game's physics are broken on your end, it might indeed be complicated. Or is it just that the game is difficult? I don't know.
And no, I'm not Italian, I'm French. But here in France, we often use the slogan ‘siamo tutti antifascisti’ during demonstrations against the far right. Since the game is about chickens revolting against the humans who enslave them, I had fun taking different phrases about revolts and struggles and reworking them into chicken vs. human versions. In this case, that resulted in ‘Tutti i polli sono antifascisti’.
Thank you also for pointing out the potential you see in it. I admit that at the beginning of the jam, I didn't think I would take this game any further. But with a few days' hindsight, I think that by tweaking the game a little, fixing the bugs, adding a few levels, and making it a little less difficult in places, the game could definitely be put on Steam. And since I created the game live on Twitch, why not continue the experiment by making it better :)
What an atmosphere! The boss couldn't resist my big golden gun :)
It took me a while to realise that one egg was worth one dollar. And overall, you spend a lot of time at the beginning just waiting for your chickens to lay eggs (and it's looong!).
Anyway, I admit I only bought the gun, then skipped each day to face the foxes and the final boss because I didn't have the patience to wait to buy the other upgrades.
But if this could be improved in some way, the game would certainly be more enjoyable. Otherwise, the music is nice, our chicken looks great, and the foxes are very funny too.
In short, well done for this game and keep up the good work.
There are lots of ideas for this game, but it needs to be refined a little to take better care of the players :)
Firstly, being able to activate full screen mode would be a plus, because it's not easy to play when the screen is so small. Secondly, the delay between egg throws could be shortened, because that's our only way of anticipating the butcher. When he appears out of the darkness, we rarely have a chance of escaping. Finally, the small sound bug at the start is probably due to the sound playing on a loop. You should add the following condition to your event that triggers the sound: trigger once while true.
In any case, the atmosphere is good and the lighting is very well managed.
Well done!
Oh, a puzzle game that took me back years to when I used to play on the website https://ouverture-pas-facile.fr/ (it's originally a French game, but there's an English version).
Well done for this game :)
Reading the comments, I saw that you made this game with the free version of Construct, well done!
A tower defence game (or chicken defence, I should say) is always a pleasure!
I had a small issue with the ‘retry’ button, which didn't reset the game to the correct wave of enemies. So I refreshed the page to start over from the beginning... and win!
The same went for the ‘New Game’ button, which simply didn't seem to work. But these are just minor details. Well done for this game :)
Since the theme of the jam was ‘chicken’, I'll pretend these capybaras are chickens ^^
I was a bit perplexed at first, not really knowing what to do. Then when I realised I could break the blocks, I ended up having a pretty good time searching for capybaras/chickens. I fought lots of slimes and put out lots of fires. I even walked on flames to reach the sky, and dug as deep as I possibly could.
Well done on this game, and as several people here have said, keep going and persevere!
Thank you very much ♥
I have just updated the game page to warn players about this physics issue. There are a few other bugs (particularly concerning score saving, or even the end cutscene when replaying a second game, etc.), but nothing dramatic. I have just fixed all of this in a new version that I can't wait to put online after the jam.
Thank you very much for your comment. In principle, there are no draughts before level 8. If you get stuck on this level, you can use the level selector to try the others (as there are still lots of game mechanics to discover).
As for the physics, I definitely had a delta-time issue that I will fix after the jam, which would explain why not everyone has the same experience with the game's physics. Someone solved this by setting their screen to 60hz instead of 144hz.
Thank you very much for your feedback! Many people have told me that the game reminds them of Limbo. I haven't played the game, so I don't know, but I imagine it's also the limited colour palette that makes it so.
Controlling several chickens at once is normal, that's the principle. You have to move them all at the same time. And there will be losses...
I'm also sorry if the physics are a bit off. This is the first time I've used physics for a game (at least to this extent), and I challenged myself a bit in doing so. However, some of the chaos caused by the physics is also intentional on my part. But I hope that won't stop you from playing and enjoying it (because the ending worth reaching!)
A very juicy and polished game that makes you want to play frantically! I got a little hot under the collar with those flaming platforms, but I still managed to get a decent score. I'll probably come back for revenge and reach a thousand points!
In short, good gameplay and an enjoyable game! Well done!
What can I say, except how fabulous this game is! The incredible colour palette, fantastic pixel art, little puzzles and challenges everywhere, lots of interactive elements (I broke almost all the street lamps and smashed all the bottles, oops), chase scenes, no multiplayer support...
In short! 25 stars, and if I could have given it more, I would have!
It took me a long time to figure it out, but I finally managed to satisfy the squirrel!
We also became friends with the cat (at least I think so^^)
I'm very happy to see a challenge with the free version of Construct in this game jam. It's true that 50 events isn't a lot, but it's also a lot!
It's not easy to control two chickens when you only have one brain, but I managed. I would have asked my cat, but he's clumsy with his paws :)
My biggest difficulty in the game was definitely those little robots that come out of the bottom of the screen and then come back to attack me from behind. They're hard to defeat! If you have a few events left, I would personally devote them to that.
In any case, well done on this game and on successfully completing the challenge :)
What does this chicken painting want!?
Well done for paying attention to so many details.
I would have liked the text to go a bit slower, or even to be able to decide for ourselves when to move on to the next sentence. For a non-English speaker like me, it was quite complicated. But anyway, well done!
