Came back to see how you scored since this was my favourite of the games I played in this jam. You scored really well, good job!

Nice lil game :)

Just like others though, at first I was really confused and didn't know what to do lol. But after playing for a while, I understand whats the objective and managed to complete the level. I really like the art and the overall level design. Overall nice job!

When the first time I played it, I was kind of confused and didn't understand the purpose of the resets. But when I saw Outer Wilds mentioned in the comments, I suddenly understand what the resets meam! So I reopened the web and played it all the way through. The level design is excellent, and the art and music are perfect! I feel this is the best game I've played so far in this game jam

Developer

I'm glad that hearing about the Outer Wilds similarities brought you back into it. It's how I can quickly make the game make sense to others i've found out. I'm not entirely sure how I can alleviate this problem, since Outer Wilds even has it a bit with people often wondering what the heck they are supposed to be doing early on. Maybe I could make a larger hook right away to get to the upper door.

Looptacular game. The abilities you get are so cool and fun to use. At first I didn't understand the looping mechanic or why I had to go back and get all the torches I had used again but things clicked for me around the 3rd or 4th try

Great game! I enjoyed the puzzles and the art is amazing, I wish I could play more!

Too clever for my puzzle-averse brain, but I love the music and the atmosphere.

Amazing game! It's incredible that you managed to pull it off in a such short amount of time.

This track is incredible and I'm really into the art as well.

Nice metroidbrainia in such a short time.

I really liked your game! Very Outer Wilds with the different world events taking place at fixed time during the time loop. Your puzzles were fun and well defined. My only critique is I almost gave up at the very beginning because I couldn't push the box down the stairs to the lever that opened the door to the southern most torch. I thought it was a pressure plate because it looked very similar to the pressure plate I had already seen for the first torch on the right after you get out of the starting area. Right as I was about to give up I noticed it had a little brown something on it, and as I approached I noticed that was an interactable lever. I think removing the boxes in the southern area would clear up the confusion by helping differentiate that puzzle from the first pressure plate puzzle.

Your art vision and sound design were really peaceful and sweet. And the grappling hook and teleportation powers added great additional layers. I loved how you could use those persistent powers to retrieve the initial torches must faster on subsequent loops. Great touch.

Well done!

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

The boxes in the southern area are used for another puzzle down there, don't know if you solved that one (since you dont need to get every torch on the map), and it is probably one of my favorite ones despite being so jank. But, I can look into ways to make the lever more distinct, I actually had a bit of trouble spriting it and making it look nice.

That's very cool, I didn't realize there were more than eight torches on the map! Very nice game design. =)

AMAZING how did you do all the art in 4 days I LOVE IT

Developer

Lots of game jam experience, with the added jank code. The waterfall in the bottom of the map is literally just me toggling different tilemap layers in the scene tree :)

Wow, very clever level design and cute art style. I love it!

Super fun and clever level design!

I found a small bug: if you grab a box that's next to a pole, you end up grabbing both, which causes you to clip with the box and get stuck. I had to restart the loop. I managed to reproduce it, so it seems to be consistent.

Other than that, the hook feels incredibly satisfying to use, and the environment is really well crafted . It gave me strong nostalgic Zelda vibes!

Developer

I encountered that bug a few times, and I was able to get out of it by just shooting the hook again. But I'll have to add a priority system for when the hook collides with two objects at once.
I'm glad the hook was satisfying otherwise though, the audio really came through on making it feel good to use!

The art is incredible, and the audio gave it a nice atmosphere! Reminds me a bit of Link to the Past! Amazing game!

This was beautiful. The visuals really pulled me in.  it’s rare to see a jam game this atmospheric and polished. The loop mechanic added an interesting layer of strategy, especially once I realized the inventory persists.  When i saw the comments , i totally agreed it gave Outer Wilds vibes in the best way.

That said, the pacing did feel a bit slow early on, and I think introducing the core mechanics just a bit quicker could help players stick around longer. Still, this felt like a full experience, and the world had a ton of charm. Great work!

Thank you for the kind words!

I was definitely weary about the slow start, and the initial difficulty jump of getting the other torches before the hook or book. But I didn't know exactly what to do about it, Outer Wilds solves this by just having so much to explore, that even if you find "nothing" in your first loop you still feel satisfied.

I thought about having a tutorial section that would essentially force the player to loop to get out of it (like grab a torch in a one way door). But didn't really want to then also force them to pause to loop the world.

Wow these visuals are amazing. Making this polished a game and having this much content in 4 days is so impressive. As Feedback it started a bit slow, I would introduce the more creative mechanics sooner as gamejam players mostly don't take the time to have the full experience. Crazy game, good job!

Developer

Thanks! I do think that the game has a pretty quick difficulty jump after the first torch is gotten. Because, to most players, then you need to either do the lake box puzzle (which is jank in how I implemented it), or wait till the next loop to do the lake early on, assuming they are ready to go there. So I'm glad that so many people managed to get past that initial section.

Cool game!!

This was dope, It just looks so good and has those aethereal vibes. I just want to know what's behind that door.

The playable character was a bit slow, i was using the teleportation to move faster, other than that it was very cool and fun to finish the game ! good job !

Developer

The slow movement was me trying to make it a bit more 'cinematic', because I kept giving myself Titan Souls vibes when moving around the world and taking it all in. But you can roll in that game so maybe that's a difference. I did definitely keep giving myself the warp item with no cooldown whenever I was testing the map to move quickly ;)
