It's very slippery and there isn't much time to explore, but it feels very much like a NES game.

Very nice platform/adventure game. The mechanic of escorting the princess to the end fits the “save the princess” theme perfectly. The NES atmosphere is very well captured.

Really nice game. I did find the swamp level pretty frustrating just like so many real NES games. One thing though is It seems with the weight thing she has to be right in the middle of the platform or the platform won't fall I had her off center of it the first few times I tried and nothing was happening and was starting to think there was some other solution to the puzzle.

Hey thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Yeah I feel like the swamp level should follow some easier levels to help players settle in a bit more and get used to the platforming but I didn't have time to make more than two levels in the end...

And completely agree about the platforms.  I had a few issues with the hitboxes so ended up making them too small for the platforms to detect but I'll probably get around this by snapping the princess to the center of the platform when she lands on it.

Hahaha..nice idea of throwing the princess.

Thanks! :D

The controls on this game are great. They seem janky at first but I quickly got used to them and liked them a lot. I think I might have broken it though because I couldn't enter the second level by riding the horse (and it also seems like it just triggered randomly the first time I tried it?) I'm honestly not sure if it's just something wrong on my end but I had fun.

Thanks for playing!

I think I should have made it a bit clearer that you have to press A to choose a quest from the missing poster board, then get on the horse to start the level.  Sounds like you hadn't picked a quest in your playthrough?

I also don't like how it's B to look at the poster, but A to select a quest, especially when playing on a keyboard instead of a controller, so I might play around with these controls in future to make it a bit clearer.

That's probably what it is, I'll probably give it another go later, I was having fun up until that point

Great game, kinda hard. Perfect entry

Thank you! :)

I rescued both princesses on default difficulty.

I love the overall silliness. Catching and throwing the princess, and potentially losing the princess and leave empty-handed, are hilarious and everything about the horse (that it talks, the animations ...) is too. The visuals are perfect NES graphics too. And what's cool is that all that is not wasted because the game is very fun too, the controls feel good and the difficulty is perfect for the jam to me.

Great game!

Thank you so much for the kind words.  I'm glad you enjoyed and got a laugh out of it too - that's exactly what I was going for! :D

Really tight and fun! There were some little touches, like dust when the hero lands, the leading-scroll camera, and the motion of the horse’s dialogue, they all look great but also feel pretty un-nes. All in all, one of the best I’ve seen so far!

Developer

Thank you!  I agree there are some non-NES things going on there which I could have dialed down a bit to better fit the NES limitations.  Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it!

I'm a sucker for a good platformer, and this one definitely delivers a proper challenge. I was afraid of the slippery feel to the running at first but it became completely natural in the first stage. I see lots of potential with using the princess to help with puzzles and platforming. My only gripe is not knowing where the princess will land as you throw her-- while it became a bit easier to predict in stage 2, a small visual aid would've kept me from fearing I'd accidentally lob her down a pit, haha.

On top of the challenging gameplay, the graphics clean, readable and scaled well, and the audio's crisp and present enough to add atmosphere without being distracting.
All-in-all a great entry!

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing!

I really liked the idea of using the princess to solve puzzles so I wish I'd have focused more time on this towards the end.  Really appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed it!

Good kuro, the princesses are in EVERY castle, it seems and there is no shortage of them. At least it's easy to make a living, assuming you skip every collectible on a map and run straight for the princess to beat the greenies from getting to her.  Otherwise, be ready to 'pay' for collecting coins on a map!  :D

Notes:

  • Walking animation can get stuck while walking into a wall.
  • I noticed a lot of the jumps have to be 'very' precise to pull off.  I lost count of the number of times I failed jumps which wasted a lot of time.
  • If it was not for the instructions further down the page, I would have been stuck at the first screen and I WAS stuck there for a while.
Developer

Indeed, the princess isn't just in another castle, they're in EVERY castle and it's risk = reward if you want to fill your pockets with coin!

Completely agree the process for collecting quests and getting on the horse to start the game isn't very clear.  Some in-game guidance would have been useful!  And the jumping code definitely could be a bit more forgiving.

Thanks for playing and for the useful feedback!

I had so much fun playing  your game, exploring the map felt so much fun, so many places to go,  also the mechanics are very fun like gliding, art is gorgeous. The only thing is that I got bugged  inside a door, but other than that, it looks great!!

Developer

Glad you liked it and thank you for playing!

Sorry about the door getting you stuck!  I ran out of time trying to fix the collision code so tried to make it so it wasn't possible to be under them as they closed, but sounds like they're still causing issues!
