this activated my statistics brain too hard and i wound up more "this guy is way too fuckin' good at this" than "wahoo take all my willpower" haha

but i see from Incredibly Horny Hypno Avatar commenter below me that you knocked it out of the park with the target audience, so well done!

my main critique is that the starting INT seems a bit high for a guy who seems to pretty consistently make really bad decisions

whatchu sayin about me >.>

(in seriousness this activated my stats brain too, and it WAS consistently annoying (in a good way) that his average outcome was within 1 to 2 points of the line every goddamn time)

Man.  This snake guy is really good.  Maybe this isn't such a great ide*loses 2 INT* i'll definitely do it next time

Everyone thinks the dealer cheats! Unless he has somehow gone rogue within the machine, he does not! He just makes good decisions on what die to roll next based on the outcome of his first roll. But I am also often surprised at how often he manages to get within 0-2 points of the line. If you would like to run a statistical test to figure out if the naga really does cheat with p < 0.05, please let me know so I can be aware if I have accidentally created a malevolent computer intelligence.

Thanks for the review, and you're totally right about the INT being too high. Honestly, 15 just seemed like a nice round number. If the stats really worked like in DnD, I am pretty sure going to 0 INT would make you essentially into a vegetable, instead of just a puppy dog.

Host(+1)

i don't think he cheats — i mostly think (a) making good decisions is just incredibly powerful actually, (b) you're usually shooting for 10 or lower which severely limits the number of possible outcomes and dilutes the impact of chance, and (c) a loss is far less impactful for the dealer than it is for me, which makes it more annoying that he's really good  :)

THIS IS SO HOT WHAT THE HELL

Dude. Fuckin'... bravo, man. In one fell swoop, you've brought together peerless kink writing, pulse-pounding gambling, and a hypnotic tie-in that makes my stomach all fluttery and my brain release the good chemicals and holy shit dude this is so goddamn fucking good

I'm SO glad you got this in 2 minutes before the deadline. It's the best kink game I've played so far, and my only complaint is that there isn't more of it. More characters, more interactions... hell, dude, this could be a banger hypnokink multiplayer game if you wanted to expand on it. Add a selection of characters, write some custom dialogue when each of them zonks the others, pop up some spirals on the losing players' screens when they're getting zonked...

This could become hypnohorny Liar's Bar, dude. I'm actually excited about this. Any chance I could reach out about expanding on this, on my own or as a joint effort?

(also the writing is so fucking good and i want to know where your writing experience comes from so i can drink from the same well, the way you describe everything subtly from the player's PoV and how being tranquilized feels and the naga's eyes and dfghdjfgdhjf it's SO good)

Omg this makes me so happy to read!!

I am thrilled you enjoyed it so much. As with most of my creative pursuits, I really just made this game because I wished something like it already existed (cue that Gandhi quote). So if through this, I can inspire other people to expand on it/make similar games, then my plot will have worked >:)

Which is to say, go crazy! Expand away! No promises but I might be down for collaborating — hmu on disc (@ichthyoptera) if you'd wanna chat. My plans for this game currently are just to polish it (add some story text [i.e. changing interactions with the other bar patrons as your stats drop], mixing up the existing text [so the dealer doesn't say the same thing every time], reworking the Will Loss ending bc I don't like it rn, etc.), and also ideally add some visual component. I am hampered by the fact that I have close to zero skills in visual art, and just barely more skill in getting Twine to do what I want it to. I really would like to find an artist to team up with to make little character portraits for the PC and the naga to go in the sidebars.

Anyway, thank you so much for the kind words!!!

p.s Abt the writing, you are too kind! I just like to write. And also to read good authors and try to figure out how to mimic their styles.

p.p.s. I like ur Incredibly Horny Hypno Avatar :)

There’s some really great writing in this! When I realized what losing intelligence and will corresponded with I got that lovely swoop in my stomach, which few other games in the game have managed for me. The game over scenes are excellent, and the tailspin you can get into after losing a few rounds is very thematic, and super thrilling the first time it happened!

It took me a good few tries to beat the game, which made the inability to skip the opening text grate a little. Similarly, the ability to save your last bet and potentially an in-game restart button would also not go amiss while chasing the ending. I was a little surprised there wasn’t more to the ending than “you did it? well, didn’t expect that”, but I can imagine a few different reasons for that.

I think I put this game down and swore I was done with it three separate times before I finally managed to get out with 17 will and 13 int (which I’m pretty pleased with!). The game play loop really draws you back!

Thanks so much for the review! I know exactly the lovely stomach-swoop you are talking about, and it's such high praise to hear that the game was able to elicit that :)

Your critiques are well-taken! I meant to add like a "cheat code" that would be revealed to you on any of the game overs that would let you skip the intro, but I ran out of time to implement it. The endings are all also pretty rushed (they were all written within ~1hr of the deadline haha).

17 will and 13 int finish is pretty impressive: Bravo!! It also makes me think I should maybe add a separate "hidden" ending for if you're somehow able to make it out without losing anything. I worry though that providing the incentive for players to try to do that in a game like this might be bordering on cruelty haha

The writing has good characterization and pacing, I like the various ways that parts of it get emphasized! I think that players will often want to get back to the next gamble quickly if everything remains the same. Separating the game part from the story part by showing the long version of flavor text for various interactions only once could help with that. It was cool to see the mechanics, text, and gambling odds change as your stats get lower!

Hell yeah indeed!! I loved this. I just wish the loss scenes were longer or had more variety! Especially the game overs. Still, the concept is amazing and the execution is delightful. Wonderful!

Ahh this was fun! I loved when I started seeing the effects of my decreasing stats, I was equally admiring the way you did that and feeling frustration that I had to face the consequences of my actions. XD Lost my last int with 850 gold. ;_; Will definitely be trying again!

See this is why i don't gamble

....

But also why i might start >_>

Cute little game, definitely a neat concept with you betting, essentially, your ability to make intelligent bets...

An interesting idea! I could have been missing something, but it seemed that you'd need rather a lot of wins, and the frequency of draws was remarkably high, so I did just quit, after a while. Like a previous commenter, I didn't feel like there was quite enough information to make use of the dealer's revealed roll, as well. Perhaps a bit more information, or different information, to enable more meaningful strategizing, would help!

I love a gambling game that's got just enough complexity to get you thinking (while you can think at least.)

I mostly ignored the dealer's roll though, he showed a lot of 1s on a d2. If he showed the higher roll,  it might encourage more risk taking by giving a higher floor that needs to be beat. Showing whatever was rolled first, or maybe saying what size die is hidden might also just get the player thinking more.

Now low INT gambling was where things really started to get interesting. I love tangible consequences and increasing risk.

Thanks so much for the review!

After playing more, you're totally right about the low-roll reveal being pretty much useless. At the risk of making too big a change during the review period, I added that the dealer tells you the size of the hidden die as you suggested. Hopefully this adds a bit more strategy! I also finally added the will-loss system I've been working on, so hopefully the consequences of giving up too much of either stat are tangible.

By the way, I'm a longtime fan of your art, and absolutely LOVED your submission for the jam (review coming soon). Very exciting to hear your thoughts on my little game :)

Unfortunately the game didn't seem to start for me, but it sounds fun. I'll keep an eye on updates and bug fixes.

Thanks for the review! The initial release was absolutely ridden with bugs, but I think I've squashed most of them now in case you feel like giving the game another go
