I think the four "levels" might actually be the transition the level takes, when some of the objects switch around. I think the level quickly alternates whenever you pick up a flag to a separate level, where objects are switched around.

Yeeeah :/ it seems like the two first levels are associated with the tape you click in the beginning, another one is for the secret paper ending and only one of them is the actual map... but there appear to be emoji textures that don't seem to be used anywhere in the game...oh well, I downloaded Unity over nothing :P

So... what is with the second playthrough, and that short video clip at the end? I've tried figuring it out, and I got some kind of LOG text file, but the video clip is what really gets me? ^^^vv and enter? What am I supposed to be getting here?

11/15/19 is this Ftoday, and my theory is that maybe we'll be able to actually play multiplayer with other people.

the game works till i get to the blue screen but no server to pick

Use the Konami code

Hi guys! I have read all of the comments below and I have some thoughts about dates:

1) We have three "old" dates: 03/20/86 (the inscription on the tape, you can find it above on this page); 4/5/1987 1:56am (from metadata of the savefile) and... 12/12/1987 - the log file with <o> tag has this date in it's name. I counted the number of days between these dates (without including the end date) and as a result I got the following: 381 days or 1 year, 0 months, 16 days (first and second dates), 251 days or 0 year, 8 months, 7 days (second and third dates), 632 days or 1 year, 8 months, 22 days (first and third dates).

Unfortunately there are no any visible sequences or coincidences in this numbers so I can't argue that these numbers make sense.

2) The one "modern" date: 11/15/19. The simplest assumption: something will happen on 15th of November. Update of the game? New hint from developers?

Hmmm interesting

I checked the PNG's properties and in the Details it says Date Taken 4/5/1987 1:56am. could it be a clue to something?

Some more to add to the conversation.

The wife's username seems to be #ù%Jhl&, though I can't tell exactly what is above the u or whether the second to last character is a lowercase L or a capital i. Interesting note, if the u is actually ù, then it can be called a u with a grave. (dead wife? grave?)

There are pillars, trees and crossbars that will disappear and reappear seemingly at random. It does not seem to be consistent across different playthroughs or game states. Also the two pillars in the room with the gramophone seem to have no collision, but there doesn't seem to be anything hidden in them.  We haven't checked there at all points in the game, though.

One question I have: the game is supposed to be a capture the flag game with multiple servers that seem to include both public, developer run servers (the first three) and player run servers. Who made these player run servers? Did this game actually have an actual playerbase at one point? Is JOHN_DEV just really invested in making his dead wife resurrection game appear as though it had an acive playerbase at one point?

this converted to octal is "43 303 271 45 112 150 154 46" but  thats too long for the code we currently need.

After shooting the eye, I tried a few codes (^v^v^vv^v^v^, or ^^^vvv)

as soon as I exited the game I got this note

<o>
WARNING: enable tracking
----
re-establishing connection to server
underscore_
deleting srh.ch
resetting progress
DUMP - end
Exception: dead end (25467)
<o>

probably everyone got it but its worth posting it

When did you type in the code? During the drawing or once you got back to the menu?

i cant seem to get this to work. i had tried that up up up down down code. never got what you said

Oh, Im not really sure. I just know that once I shut off the game it was there.

Once you get the eye on the blank server screen, Konami code again, and it should appear on your desktop

You actually get that log when you get the eye on the server screen, it's not tied to a code.

So for those who have been playing the game with a keen eye and trying to delve deeper into its secrets, here's an unordered list:

  • Your pistol shoots a seemingly random amount of times each reload (2 - 5 rounds)
  • You lose all ammo when you have a locked encounter with the entity
  • There are 12 of 15 servers online, but the server browser only shows 6 of 9 servers online
  • Shooting the record player will stop the music and change some of the dialogue from the developer
  • Quitting  the game when the developer pleads you and rejoining causes the developer to enter the game as a spectator; this causes a destructible object to appear in the sky near the center of the map
  • In either of the currently known endings, you can refresh the server list by using the Konami code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a)
  • When using the Konami code after seeing the developer ending, a small (o) remains visible at the top of the server browser
  • The (Complete Save File) is actually an image; you can view this yourself by opening the file on any image editor. The image has a date embedded on the bottom left corner, 11/15/19
  • You can ignore the first locked encounter with the ghost by walking/running backwards and not looking at it, during the encounter
  • Objects vanish and reappear after each flag capture; this happens with the trees at the start flag which are three and I have seen reduce to two, with the supports/tombstones on the wall which appear and reappear in some of the areas in the arena, and the tree by the record player which appears/reappears
  • You can clip through a few distinct objects in the arena, most notable the two pillars/supports near the record player
  • There are some configs and files related to browsers (some of which are open source) in the game executable files. I have yet to see anywhere where the game actually uses a browser (the game runs in Unity, unless this is some kind of emulation of Unity Web) so there may be something there for someone who is more aware of development than I am
  • You can move using a and z; it has been speculated that this is for compatibility for azerty keyboard users
  • Noted by Lkok and other users, exiting the game after the Dev Ending event yields this log/error:

<o>

WARNING: enable tracking

----
re-establishing connection to server
underscore_
deleting srh.ch
resetting progress
DUMP - end
Exception: dead end (25467)
<o>

  • Noted by Mothified that the image has a date property: Date Taken 4/5/1987 1:56am

I may edit this if I find anything more

For anyone who hasn't noticed. the "save file" they uploaded yesterday is actually a PNG image file. It has a hidden message when you change brightness/contrast. I show it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HzS-qtd5o4

so older comments say only 6 visible servers I booted for the first time and I get 9 three of which are offline. This is my first boot up.

I noticed when you put in the Konami code and it brings up the list of servers there are only 9 servers listed.  6 online and 3 offline.  in the top right hand corner it states 12/15 online.

15 total.  3 offline.  Bringing it down to 12 online but only 6 of them are listed.  Meaning 6 additional servers are not accounted for.

Don't know if this has already been discovered.  Just wanted to point it out.

9 are listed (6 on, 3 off).  This is, despite the wording, to simulate what happens when you filter by game type.  Only 9 servers are capture the flag, the rest are some undetermined game style like Free for All or Team Deathmatch.

played the game with another cause i thought i couldn't do anything else! till i markipliers vid. gonna play it again Very nice!

I played the basics of the game didn't know if there was more to it or  not but I liked it for what I did play, make a full game about this I say!

love the style! Interesting game. Creepy atmosphere.

Really impressed. This might be my favorite game I've played on Itch this whole year. Horrifying. You nailed the whole aesthetic from look to sound. I can't even think of a negative or something I could critique you to change. Really hard decision at the end I had to force myself not to play again as I prefer to have my ending be my ending. Seriously so rad.

i found a secret An eye a shot it then some weird video started of a guy drawing something on a piece of paper

This is really cool!  I liked the style you went for with this game!  I thought it was clever how you made this game too!

(+1)

This game is super DOPE!!!

Really liked the game, the start was something I felt was unique. Is there any way to restart the game?

(+2)

In the empty server screen, enter the konami code (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A). This will reset the game.

Edit: sorry for the quick posting (I hope it's not considered spamming) but I managed to open the file with MS paint, and came up with this:

A streetlamp. Behind it, what appears to be a river surrounded by forest. Anyone in for the brainstorming?

(+1)

If you zoom into the picture you can read 11/15/19 on the bottom left.

No clue what it could mean. Maybe when the next hint is coming?

Good find, I missed that!

I don't know what the date means... it can be the date of the next hint, or maybe playing the game in that date will trigger new events.

I don't see it. Could you circle it please?

I opened the file in notepad, noticed it was originally a photoshop file. It also mentioned layers. It 's probably nothing, given how pretty much anything painted in photoshop would have layers, but I tried to see if I could pull it into Sketchbook Pro as a tiff or psd file to keep the layers. No luck. IDK if you or anyone has true Photoshop, but it may be worth a shot if you already own it. Sketchbook Pro wasn't able to read the file, so I'm not exactly having a lot of faith in that idea.

Also, call me crazy or perhaps I've just stared at it until it looked like ink blots, but in the hazy black stuff around the top, it looks like there's a thumbprint in the top right , and a bird flying away from the lamp in the top left.

(+1)

I had opened it in notepad once before and thought nothing of anything inside, but this made me want to look into it again. As far as 99% of of what's inside nothing seems useful except an interesting date I highlighted. It reflects the 1987 of the LOG_test.

If we're supposed to figure this out before the 15th, we may be SOL. Ha

How did you open the file in MS paint?

Right click on the file --> open with --> other apps. In the window, there are "Recommended apps" and "Other apps": click "other apps" and choose Paint.

(P.s.: I'm using Windows 7, I don't know how it works in Windows 10, if you have that)

(+1)

I'm trying to find a way to load that new file... for now, I've only managed to open it with PSPP, an open-source statistics software (the .sav extension is used with statistics). When I did that, pic related is what I got.

Could this mean that the file contains an image? I can't figure out what else PNG could mean.

In case this can help somehow: I've managed to avoid the first contact with the spectre, the one that happens when you bring the flag to your base the second time. To do it, just bring the flag to your base walking forward (pointing at the gate behind the flag); then, don't turn around, just moonwalk towards the entrance where the ghost appears. You'll hear the sound, but she'll disappear once you're too near.

Really creepy for such a simple idea, and the story is interesting. Had some good scares and unsettlingness. Well done.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I get a brown screen when I start the game. Clicking around, I'll eventually see a vhs tape in the middle of the screen. I click it, a sound effect of a vhs tape being inserted into a vcr plays but nothing on screen changes. After some sound effects, clicking the mouse buttons makes typing sounds.
I'm on windows 7, 2600k, gtx980 and 16gb ram.

I had the same issue, also on Windows 7.  I had to change to an Aero theme to be able to get past the VHS in the middle of the screen.  Only issue I have now is the mouse is way too sensitive to be able to play effectively.

Holy shit that worked! How did you figure that out? Changing the theme never crossed my mind, I thought I tried everything.

Honestly, it was a lucky a guess.  I had tried everything else, and figured "why the hell not".  Helps that I work in tech support, so I've gotten pretty good at thinking of off-the-wall ideas to try while troubleshooting.

what a... twist???

Ok, so when I first got the no server screen and it didn't go away on start up I deleted the game and then re-downloaded it and it was still there... That means the game is leaving a save file somewhere in my system and I really don't appreciate that.

Specially since that game wasn't installed, so I can't then Uninstall it to get rid of the save file. I've been having an issue with bloat clogging up my drives can you please tell me where to find the save file so I can totally uninstall the game?

(+1)

it's typically in the users section on your C drive.

click C, your name (whatever you named your user on your PC), you may need to show hidden files for this, but go to the AppData folder, there should be 3 files: Local, LocalLow, and Roaming.

It can be on any one of those, usually the folder is named after the dev or the game. I haven't found it, but good luck.

(+1)

You have to delete Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adam Pype - Viktor Kraus in regedit

I cant find that file anywhere on my laptop.

just hold the Windows button and press the R key. Then you type "Regedit" and you will find this file :)

I know it's been a while since you commented, but I hope I helped or you already discovered xp

(-1)

Idk if you solved this already, but for those struggling, I haven't tried uninstalling myself, but I did combine the power of these to comments to find the mentioned folder (the address Iwan gave didn't work for me). If you're a Windows user:

1. Go to "This PC" and then "Local Disk (C:)".

2. Along the top of the file explorer, select the "View" button. In that drop down, on the right side, there is a (probably) empty check box next to "Hidden Items". Check that box, and you'll be able to see hidden folders.

3. Click on "Users", then select yourself (or whoever's account the game is installed under).

4. There is a (normally hidden) folder called AppData. Click it, and you should see the three folders mentioned in teddy's comment. In this case, you want LocalLow.

5. You should see a folder here called "Adam Pype - Viktor Kraus" here. This is the file you want to delete.

I apologize if this isn't here for those trying to uninstall, as said before I haven't uninstalled myself, I was just trying to see if I could peak into game files ^^U

You do not have to uninstall, as using the Konami Code (up up down down left right left right B A) on the server screen resets the game to its default state.  Also, as IwanPlays states, it saves using the registry.  I can 100% confirm this as I have seen exactly how it works.

(1 edit)

just do the konami code

up up down down left right left right B A

Wow this gave me the creeps lol such an interesting concept and well executed game! Great work!

nice little horror game found this game because of facebook XD

(1 edit) (+1)

Really good game!

I'm still trying to figure out if there's something more to it...

For the people who ask why you can move with Z and Q: this game was designed keeping in mind AZERTY-keyboard players too. In the AZERTY keyboard, the Z takes the place of the W, and the Q takes the place of the A.

(+2)

that makes a LOT of sense.

(+1)

Hey i finished the game with the flag ending but i have no idea how to restart the game. When i get back into the game its a no server list . i tried to re download the game but it still shows the same thing. is there a way to restart the game or is it permanent?

(+2)

up up down down left right left right B A

I read this and thought it was a joke at first, thanks for letting me keep playing :')

Uhh.. Is this work?

*does.  And yes, it works on the server screen from any state, it works by setting your saved settings to the defaults.

Thank you very much! Now i can play this wonderful game, again and again! :D

Yeah, i have the same problem :(

fantastic game, loved the sort of mystery and uncanny valley horror behind it.
