What was your favorite part of this jam?
The theme, it leaves a lot of freedom which is quite unique comparing to typical game jam with a precise them

What was the hardest part of this jam for you?
The level building and the bit of UI I did

EDIT : Apparently, the hardest part was clearly explaining the mechanics to the player, I made small improvements to make the game enjoyable and less frustrating. (I did not change the core mechanics nor edited scripts during the rate period, only "tutorial" and visibility patches, original file still available).

This was great So much fun to cast the spells and I love the level design! one of my favorites if not my favorite Congrats!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback ! I spent a lot of time decorating the inside of the room, so I'm glad you loved it !

i love the lighting technique you used. at first i thought they had sometime to do with the overall puzzle lol. the particles effects were really great too, but the movement for magic was ridiculously hard. from the targetting to getting the right spell, but maybe i just suck at wand flicking. i also really loved the bgm. all in all a great bit of fun.

Developer

I did try some new things with lightning and post-processing to give a fantasy/magical look. The movement are quite tricky, I agree, I should have made a slider to decrease the difficulty of the movement.

Thank you for your feedback, EllaRed !

very very good game... visuals are good, particles are awesome, magic is satisfying... very well polished and could be turned into a full game. enjoyed the little piece of lore in the beggining. oh and the sound design as crisssp

Developer

Hey pipp1n , thanks for the feedback ! I will think about turning it into a full game, it could be a good experience with more mechanics and other rooms ! I am so glad you liked it, I did put a lot of efforts into the sounds, that's nice you noticed.

I saw that you patched your game, I will make sure to give another try to The Rune Door !

Submitted(+1)

This is by far the most polished and complete experience I've had in this jam. I think your introduction to different mechanics had a great amount of pacing to it as well. The particle effects were stellar, the design was compact and on point, and... I don't know what else to say. I really loved every bit of this and you should be incredibly proud of this. 10/10

Developer

Wow, this is a comment that makes me very happy ! Knowing someone had played my game and enjoyed everything is quite nice !

I'm so glad you enjoyed and noticed the polishing made to the particle effects and the mechanics !

I'll make sure to test Deactivated ^^

This might be my favorite submission to this game jam so far!

I loved how you could interact with pretty much everything, and I thought the keys took just enough effort to find where you didn't get frustrated looking for them. I also really liked watching the fire spread across the different wooden materials, and I felt like the mechanics were really well polished.

Like other people have commented, it took me a while to figure out where the keys go, but I eventually figured it out and then everything worked great.

Great job!

Developer

Thank you for this wholesome feedback !

I really wanted good mechanics, especially with fire, so I'm glad you like it !

Submitted(+1)

Wow, that is just really well done !
I enjoyed every bit of it.

The mechanics are awsome and work properly ! A short super fun experience for sure.
I some how managed to break one torch from the wall and I couldnt get the last key, but nothing a quick restart can fix.

Super lovely !

Developer(+1)

Thank you I appreciate your comment !

Glad to know that you enjoyed my game, I am curious to know how you broke the torch ? I didn't even though it was possible.

I will check your game !

Submitted(+1)

I just rechecked it aaand I might have mistaken the torch lying on the table for one of the wall torches.
And then I must have overlooked either one wall torch or the table torch in each playthough !

The wall torches probably dont even have a rigidbody right ? that would have been a very weird bug ^^

Developer(+1)

The wall torches doe have a rigidbody, but it is kinematic, so yeah that would be quite surprising if you managed to break them :D !

I am worthy to be called an apprentice! That was a great experience! Thank you for making everything able to be grabbed and picked up. That is my biggest pet peeve in VR, not being able to grab and pick up or touch anything you see. But I could pick up and toss the books around and everything! Fantastic! Great placement of all the objects and the sound effects were very satisfying. That wand though! Amazing!

I didn't realize you had to hold down the trigger to use it, so definitely thats something you should put in the little description of the spell. Just something simple like "Hold Trigger and Flick your wand in a tear drop shape..."

Also after finding all 6 keys I was at a loss for where to put them. The little decorations at the main door should definitely be key locks, maybe they auto snap the key when you bring it near as well. On a whim after getting frustrated on where to put the key I put it on there and released the trigger and it worked.

Great little end area as well. Kudos on a well made game!

Developer(+1)

Great to know you overcame the challenge of Hazardus Magnificus !

I put a lot of work in interactions, every crate and barrel were flammable, and every object could be grabbed or had physics.

I see a lot of comments about the mechanics of the wand and the key, and that's something I totally misdid. I will try to push an update with new indications and transparent-keys in the keylock that will auto-grab.

As always, thank you for your complete feedback, it helps me very much !

Developer

I added a little note on the table next to the wand explaining how it works, the locks now grab the key from your hand, it should be less frustrating now :)

Really cool parts of this game. The wand was amazing. Works well, but did not understand that I needed to release the trigger at end of movement to start. I loved the 3d hologram visuals but was a little confusing if I should put keys there. My headset ran out of power on this game and had gotten 3 keys. Was not sure where to put them so left on table. Sounds, wand, and effects all awesome.

Developer

I'm glad you like the sound, effect, and the wand (it was quite tricky to make it work).

Congrats on finding 3 keys ! Thank you for your feedback, I will try to improve with the golden-key objective. I hope you had a good time !

Pretty cool game i was impressed at the Sound Design right when the game started, Everything had its own Sounds and there was even music playing in the background

The wand was simple to use and pretty consistent, it did what i wanted to do alot of the times even if i had forgotten how to do a spell

There was this part where i had done a spell on something i cant remember but there was a sound that played after a key got instantiated at the table and that sound was unique and it made me turn my head which made me realize there was a new key on the table, I really liked that Sound Queue it was nice but

What frustrated me is the lack of Visual queues especially for the Chest and the Door, First there's these random Blobs of magic just chilling everywhere and i thought they were part of the escape room but it looks like they're just some weird red herring decorations

i remember getting to the chest and in the chest there was a key hole so first i wasted some time trying to fit every key in that keyhole which didn't work, Then i tried shooting spells at it and that didn't work, Only 5-10 minutes later did i realize that i have to specifically shoot the Lock with a specific cast that wasn't used before that part, i wouldn't have mind it at all if i just didn't have to shoot the small collider at the lock it would have been nice if the chest opened when you shoot the chest if that makes sense

Just to let you know i didnt completely finish the game, i found all 6 keys but after that i had absolutely no freaking idea what to do with the keys i spent a good 10 minutes just trying to shoot the door the lock trying to use all the keys on the door, everything i could think of but i gave up as i wanted to try another game after that

Obviously this is just a gamejam game But i hope that you take these things in consideration in your next project :D

Overall really cool experience i would definitely recommend others to check it out

Developer

Thank you for playing and also taking the time to write a complete feedback, it helps me so much !

I'm glad you noticed the effort put in sound design !

As you saw with those Red herring decorations (that I confirm are just decorations), visuals are not my specialty. I agree that there is a lack a visuals queues, but the chest only opening on the lock is a bug, it was meant to open as soon as the "unlock" spell touches it. And I should'nt have picked a chest model with a real lock on it.

As for the 6 golden keys, they must be inserted in the 6 black mechanism around the door structure, I should have put a little VFX here to highlight them.

Thank you again for taking the time to play and write great feedback !

Oh thats extremely weird as i tried to put the keys in those hole things ALOT of times but they never worked for some reason, Must have been a bug then

Developer

You have to ungrab the key in front of it, it doesn't just grab it by force from your hand (might do a patch)

Probably makes more sense to just forcefully take it from you when you enter the radius of the placepoint

Developer

Hey, I have taken your feedback into account, I put a patch which should be less confusing for players !
