How much time was taken?
9 hours. i got vods :).

Use of theme?
Tried to use all of them:

- Chain Reaction

Didn't really implement this to well, when i was coming up with the idea I just thought of it as a chain effect and my idea was just getting chain kills to increase your modifier.

- Negative Feedback Loop

As you get more chain kills and score it gets harder. Simple.

- Novel Twist on Classic Game

Mario.

Use of diversifiers?
-Discord
-Recording of dev(in page description)
-Randomness
maybe some others idk

Did you have fun?

Absolutely!!

Really fun and polished game for just 9 hours! Plus it's infinitely replayable lmaoooooo! Good Work yo!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing, glad you liked it!

This was fun, and I really enjoyed how a long combo led to a long chain of "Oof"s, right on beat. Super funny.

I like the variety of enemies but I would've preferred arrow keys or WS controls instead of 123.

I got 212 points.

Nice twist on Mario Bros. And the negative feedback loop I think was pretty well implemented also.

Only thing I would have done differently is the controls, I would prefer to use Up/Down arrows rather than keys 1, 2 and 3. Or maybe using something like keys W, S and X to get the controls aligned with what happens on screen!

:)

Thanks for playing man.

I've gotten a lot of feedback about the controls. One of the reasons why having other people play test is important, which I didn't do. Ill try to fix it for a post jam version.

So The idea is quite cool. I didnt find much of a challenge. Though, it was quite satisfying to kill all those Marios xD.

Thanks for playing! OOF

I like that the music changes with the chains.

The keys should really be mapped in a way that matches the screen. It's also hard to tell the characters from the background.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing!

I actually originally planned for the music to increase at the same rate as the mario spawning does, so that you get those nice rhythmic oofs. Couldn't fit it in in time though.

I made the stick figure version of mario in like 3 minutes just as a placeholder and liked it so much I wanted to keep it in. But as you said that makes them harder to see. I may try to add in an outline or maybe more animation so that they are easier to see. Thanks for the feedback

Hi!
I really had fun playing this. I got confused using the controls multiple times because my brain associated 1 with the top and 3 with the bottom :P
I really like the slowed down Mario BGM
My score was 445

Developer

Thanks for playing!

The controls are bad i know :p.

I found that using 1, 2, 3 as controls was very uncomfortable, I would have much preferred it if I could use the arrow keys to jump up or down levels. That said it was an enjoyable mechanic

I think if you had reskinned this game it could have been really enjoyable to play in its own right.  The fact that a game is not for profit does not mean that assets can be used without a licence. Be careful.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing!

I wish I would have play tested the controls more, and i really should have had other people try the game with its current control scheme. About the assets, although they look like mario assets they are all hand drawn just with inspiration none of the sprites were copied pixel by pixel. You can see me draw them in the dev timelapses. Even the music midi is pretty heavily edited. Thanks for the warning though.

Funny idea. For whatever reason I kept wanting 1 to be the top and 3 to be the bottom ;d

Only got to 234 ;[

Hey thanks for playing!

Controls were something I wished I spent more time on. I actually had the controls be E W and Q, with E being the bottom and Q being top for the majority of the dev time but then at the end switched it cause i thought 1 2 3 would make more sense for levels one, two and three. Guess i was wrong lol.

At least it works better with weird keyboard layouts like azerty ;d

Had a lot of fun playing this game. Definetely will play some more after rating other submissions.

I wish there was arrow or mouse click controls thought, I'm too old to store which level assotiated with which number in my 8 bytes brain RAM T.T  xD

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

Yea controls were one of the things i skimped out on. Was planning to add more control schemes but ran out of time.

Glad you liked it!

Nice art, slick gameplay. Controls took a little getting used to so I just turned my keyboard 90 degrees :)

I got to 293 Murder Points! Oof

Thanks for playing!
Couldn't figure out a control scheme that felt too amazing and just kinda forgot about it. I'll add some more in a post jam version.

Thanks for the support!
