A super fun idea, I just had to chuckle at the "Spring Plant"! The gameplay is entertaining too, stealth platformers for the win :)! I read that you would have liked to add a boss fight and I think that's a really cool idea, currently there's unfortunately nothing happening after you collected all water bottles and springs, so some sort of win screen would be awesome. The zoomed out camera actually gave the player a very good overview, though it very likely also made the game easier. You'll probably want to change the settings under Project Settings > Display > Window (especially Size > Mode and Stretch > Mode) in Godot which should most likely make the screen behave like you intended :). Great work, and especially awesome for your first game! Thanks for sharing! :)
I like the Idea of the game. In the first level / scene it felt a little bit too far zoomed out but in the actual level it was definitely the right choice. A tutorial would have been a nice addition because we did not know any buttons except the usual for walking an jumping. (A short text below the game on the itch page with key binds would definitely be enough) But overall pretty good keep it up.
Cool idea. The zoomed out camera isn’t necessarily a bad thing in this case. It’d look great if the character’s sprite would flip when moving the other direction. An explanation of the controls on the itch page would also be helpful. Overall solid platformer.
Lmao, using spring water to defeat springs, you really got inspired by the jam name :)
Very cool game.
Visual looks good and I feel like the zoomed out camera ends up being pretty useful in a stealth game, I'd be curious to see how it looks without the bug.
I like the stealth mechanic, it's pretty forgiving imo. You can hide after the enemy already saw you and it still works, which is great for me as I'm impatient.
Managed to make an enemy jump in a pit by showing myself, dunno if it was intented but was pretty cool.
Am I done once I get to 4 springs in the inside level ? Wasn't sure if I was done or if I'm not figuring out where to go
There was a planned boss fight that we did not get to, so yeah right now its the end hahaha
Great Job! The artwork is really atmospheric! You did great for the time you had!
Haha, nice story! I like the idea of it. Also, plant in plant. Nice job!
Ok, this is a nice game. Visuals is ok. Thats's all. maybe i was really too mean to you, because i rated too much games in short period and just got tired. I'm really trying to be nice to everyone.
Ok, so a good way to do constructive feedback is to point out something you like, something they could improve on, and your overall impressions. So from your original post I would have said this about our game.
"I though the visuals worked well in your game, I had a hard time figuring out how the stealth worked, it would have been nice to have made that more clear. I also could not figure out how to leave once the springs were collected. Good start to a game, I hope you learned some things and I can't wait to see your next game jam game."
It keeps the tone positive, it leaves out the comment about other comments which did nothing productive. And when a game points out something they messed up that means they are aware of it so there is not really a need to point it out, so pointing out you had to give us a bad audio score added nothing to the posting. You don't have to lie or sugar coat, but keeping it positive does wonders to not hurt motivation when giving feedback.
I hope that helps :)
thanks :3
For a first time game jam, the game is relatively well done, considering you didn't fully finish it, so well done. There are things to improve sure, but you get there with experience.
For example with the stealth, you already made one sign at the beginning so maybe a second one before the factory which would tell you how the stealth works would be nice, like a small tutorial. Export errors happen and if you are not used to game dev, they can catch you unprepared, so don't worry about them here and learn from it.
If I could recommend one thing about the errors, that Chloe recommended on the discord as well, couple of hours before the end of the jam, maybe even just 1 hour before, create a test build and upload it to a draft version of the project so you can catch these errors before you need to submit the final project. This way you can also test the game on the site itself a discover bugs that don't appear in the engine or wherer you create the game.
I expected the export to "Just Work" and I learned that lesson the hard way hahaha. We even ran into errors with gdscripts working on my dev environment but not another one so we struggled with the tooling longer than expected for sure. We rushed the tutorial level which from all the comments I'm learning we should have focused on more to introduce all the mechanics clearly. Thanks for the feedback <3
There is definitely a better way to give feedback without sounding so harsh. The game was no where near done and I think that was pretty obvious. I would encourage you to look at how other people give critical feedback and work on that for yourself.
Beautifully done graphics!
Thank you! It was the artists first time using some of the art software and we were quite happy with how it came out
Nice art and the jumping is smoooth. I had fun playing. Thanks for the game!
Thank you! It took a couple tries to get the jumping to feel right with the scale of the game.
I think it is a great first attempt at a game jam game. You have all of the ingredients to a good game. It just didn't bake long enough. I love the play on words with spring, and the mechanics felt good. It is mostly basic platforming, but the stealth adds a little to it, and I like that you need to get water and then springs. Also, the enemy animations look good.
The play on words we were very happy with. And thank you for the feedback <3
The levels are well constructed and the box-hiding mechanic really gave the game a certain deep in that 2D. It's propably due to a bad export or a lack of time but some features such as parallax in the background or camera limits and zoomed seem to be missing. Otherwise, the game was great ! Have a good one.
All of that was 100% lack of time. We spent a lot of time just learning how to do basic Godot things and ended up not finishing a large chunk. Thanks for the feedback!
The gloomy enemy is well made, I think it's a very interesting concept, and there is a real good idea behind, I hope you will make more levels in the future 😉
Thank you! The artist was quite proud of that guy. Hopefully we will get more time to actually have a boss fight lol
Great looking art guys. Impressed with the enemy AI. Think the stealth mechanics are novel. Camera could be a little more zoomed in.
I think the camera was an export issue? I struggled to get it packaged correctly, hence the no sound. But appreciate the compliment on the enemy AI! That was my bit so FeelsGoodMan
Solid platformer, took me a minute to understand that box/hiding mechanic but I enjoyed the level
We wanted to put it in the tutorial level but then we ran out of time to do the tutorial level hahaha
