Thanks for the feedback! and no worries, the current build does only have the one ending. I was originally planning for 3 with one being complete failure (originally the game would have been timed but it felt too rushed so I cut it), the ending it has now, and then a third that would have related to some optional events on the ship that I didn't have time to add.

Funnily enough, I actually was going to add a mission report screen after the ending explaining what exactly became of the ship and its crew but I wound up cutting it for the sudden cut to black instead. I think in hindsight, the mission report screen would have probably been the better choice to help explain what just happened.

Loved the system-shock like theme. Also having to make a choice at some point and all of them sound f*ed up is great!

I had to replay a second time to really "get" it, but very cool overall. Liked the old CGA colors, took me back to the DOS days for a few minutes.

Hey Null Builds!

What a fantastic little experience! Like others have said I really have no idea whether I saved everyone or doomed us all -- haha!

A couple notes after playing:

  • I really don't have anything to criticize other than the fact that I want MORE! Such a cool, concise experience with interesting world building and lore. I need you to continue development after the Jam :P
  • Maybe my one piece of criticism would be with the ship voice. I think you could mix in the pitch-shifting a bit more and possibly ring-mod it so it sounds a bit more robotic (would kind of sound like a dalek if you did ring mod at 100Hz). It didn't bother me though just a nitpicky thing that comes to mind.

What I liked:

  • The story! Really cool world building. I went through and read every terminal just because I wanted to learn more about what the heck was happening and learn more about what the ship's goal was. I need more of it haha
  • The sound effects you made are awesome! I love the "beep-boop" sound so much. I just kept repeating it out loud every time it would happen. They definitely added charm and character to the game. Great job!
  • The little detail with the trailing blood was so cool and clever. The whole style of the game in general was just fantastic honestly. Really brought me back to stuff I used to play as a kid. Again, I need more of it asap! I want a full couple hour experience that is stuff like this. Super excited if you plan to continue development on this idea because it is worth continuing. Fantastic job!

Thanks for the feedback and for the tip about the ringmod! This was my first time doing any kind of audio manipulation and I'm still very much learning. I was aiming for something like Morgan's suit from Prey 2017 and that ringmod sounds like it'll help me get closer.

All the SFXs are from FilmCow's free audio library. Most of the sounds were used as-is but for the announcement beeps, I combined two of the library's stock beeps and pitch-shifted them slightly. I've always loved the beeps Xerxes makes in System Shock 2 so I was trying to capture that same feeling.

I had to cut a lot of ideas to meet the deadline so there's definitely room to expand in the future if I come back to this project.

Well made, tense and very atmospheric, Good job.

Nice game, I liked the athmosphere, the SFX and the choice system. Guess I wasn't able to save everyone in the end but that's okay haha. Good work!

Nice job! Keep up the good work!

Oh man, what a good story. Great work. Very lonely and claustrophobic

Echoing the others on the graphics and sound design.  I love the detail of the bloody footprints~

Very well done on the minimalist graphics, the sound design was also good. Liked the brief lore and the realization at the ending was great.

Good submission!

Thanks!

Short but sweet game. The graphic style is charming, remind me of old school window xp games. Story is excellent and well-paced, indirectly told the story of the next guy. I enjoy this very much

Nice work with sound and graphics! As previous commentators said, not sure if I failed or succeeded :D

Really nice little game, nice minimalist art, and very creepy atmosphere, wish it were longer

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, it's definitely shorter than I intended. I had a lot more planned but unfortunately had to cut it for time since I changed direction mid-jam.

Excellent art style, sound design and story. I enjoyed playing the game and wanted to keep going once I got to the end—also, a great concept and setting for a horror game.

Really neat game, love the stylised graphics. Nice world-building!

Intense due to great sound, minimalistic graphics and nice writing. After rerouting power I wasnt sure if I had failed, but I would play more.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! In hindsight, I could have definitely improved the power rerouting sequence to make it clearer that it only has one solution and can't be failed (if you saw the credits, you got it right). I think I made the mistake of half-committing to it being a puzzle and half-scripted event and I should have gone one way or the other.
