Pretty cool. Maybe a difficulty setting based on word length would be a good addition.
Cool game!
Well, that's a great idea! Extremely original and well-made. I fully understand of course that it would have been too much for the jam's scope, but an improved version going full rhythm game with some faster songs and obstacles timed to it would be amazing.
Thanks for the feedback! I probably won't go down a rhythm game aspect with this game, because I have a longer project in the works that's a rhythm game. But I definitely will expand on this idea and kinda go Super Hexagon with levels and difficulty.
Love the idea. Some sound feedback for colliding or getting a word right or wrong like sometimes I would misspell a word and I am not aware why I did not jump to the other side and I after I get hit I see that I forgot an "a" in "Vagabond". So some feedback either visual or audible would help. I love the aesthetics and the way the theme is implemented. Great job!
Thank you for the feedback! SFX is definitely first on my list when I revisit. Unfortunately I ran out of time and wasn't able to get a sound I liked for typing.
Pretty cool concept! I think it fits the theme nicely while still being original. I have a few complaints thought.
Overall it’s a cool idea and a good take on the typing genre!
Congrats!
Hey, thanks for your feedback! I definitely agree that the game needs so sounds to really make it satisfying but I ran out of time when making the game. And I changed how I take the letters in right before submitting the game for the last time, and I thought it would fix the problem of the letters only accepting lowercase. I'm not concerned with how to start the game. I feel like it's in character with the game and I really don't want to bother adding mouse controls. Also the spike design is in a way where I hoped the player would try jumping from one side to the other. This way there isn't a wall of tutorial text for a game jam game and it's more of a learn by experimenting thing. I will definitely take your feedback into consideration for when I revise this game.
Clever character control mechanics. I would like an audio feedback. In general, it turned out original, congratulations!
Thank you for your feedback! I definitely think sound effects would've been the last touch of polish on the game, but I ran out of time unfortunately. When I revise the game, I definitely will add sound effects for just about everything.
Interesting game. Pretty playable already. Nice idea of using no mouse or arrows at all. There is a question to the balance. Sometimes you just wait, sometimes you have to slide through spikes, but right after that you get a giant word.
You get a longer word by distance, and this is actually quite intentional in the spike design. I still have a lot of balancing left to do but I'm not going to touch it until after the competition portion is done. Thank you for your feedback!
Love the idea, it's a bit tough, probably because I can't type as fast without typos lol but the concept was great. I really like the player has to type in shop to access the shop, its a fun little feature.
I'd love to follow this game if you do keep working on it!!
I definitely want to continue working on it! Thank you for your kind words. Difficulty is definitely going to be the most important aspect going forward.
maybe a little feedback when the player moves after a successful word type other than that its a great game!
Yeah, I really wanted to but I decided to spend more time on music than sound effects and then I never got to sounds before having to submit. The next version will definitely have sounds and animations. Thanks for your feedback!
Fun game. My only complaint is that the spikes are too fast for the start.
Other then that. Amazing game.
Yeah, its too hard when you start playing but once you get the typing down it becomes a little too slow. I tried to find a decent balance but I clearly didn't make it slow enough to start. When I revisit the game I'm going to take a long time trying to get the difficulty right. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for taking my feedback into consideration.
Lovely game! Looks so good with all the lights!
Thanks! A little emissions and bloom post-processing goes a long way!
Nice game. I liked learning the different patterns of incoming obstacles and figuring out what the best lane to be in before/during each pattern was. Well done.
Thank you for playing!
This is a super difficult game! In a good way, of course. It seemed like the word length (and thus, difficulty) was a little arbitrary, and it would make more sense to me for words to get harder over time and depending on how far you move left or right. I found myself getting sucked into the game super fast, desparate to make it past the first few sections. The style is pretty good; only noticable issue I found was the lack of anti-aliasing. The sound was there, too, but it seemed strangely quiet - could just be my speakers, but either way, very well done on this game!
Hi there! That's actually exactly how the difficulty works. The further the lane is, the harder the pool of words are. The pools have 3-4 letters, 4-5 letters, 5-6 letters, 6-7 letters, 7-8 letters, and 8-9 letters. So one lane over could be three or four letters where 4 lanes over would be 6-7 letters. Then Every other time you get hit the starting difficulty increases by one. So instead of one lane being 3-4 letters, it's 4-5 letters. I didn't scale the word difficulty by distance but probably will when I revisit the game. Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I love the game. Congratulations, it's very good. I would like the length/typing difficulty to ramp up rather than being totally random (is it?). Good job
That's actually exactly what it does. There's a pool of text that has words with 3-4, another with 4-5, then 5-6 then 6-7, then 7-8, then lastly 8-9. The word difficulty increases by the distance to the lane you're trying to type too, and the difficulty also increases with decreasing lives. I've explained more in depth about the letters difficulty in other comments if you want to know more. Thank you for your kind words!
Great game! The typing mechanic feels great and I can see that the obstacles were designed with the typing in mid, but I wish I could set how slow/fast they are because currently, I feel that the game is really hard. Rated! Good luck!
Thank you for your feedback. Difficulty selection will definitely come in a later version of this game!
Even though it is really difficult, the concept is quite unique! Some tweaking will make this game better in the future! Nice Job!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I definitely plan on revising this game after the competition is over.
i really liked the difficult gameplay :) cool game
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Sound could have been better, and the blank generic looking planks on which the words are shown are very bland compared to the rest of the game, but yeah, cool concept, and the overall aesthetics look really good.
Yeah, definitely agree that the music is okay at best. I put it together in a really short amount of time and just free improved the melody an hour before the submission was due. I will definitely remake the tracks to better fit the vibe and ad actual sound effects for typing, moving and explosions when I revisit this project. Also thank you for the suggestion on the panels. I definitely could add a neon border like the lanes have and that could make it more readable too.
Interesting game, feels like the difficulty needs to scale much faster. I managed to get 25587, but if I wanted to beat it, I'd have to spend a long time doing the easy beginning again.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it. As a lot if people struggled with the game I feel like the difficulty is in a fine place, at least for the game jam version. When I return to this game, I'll add difficulty selections/harder levels. Also, wow you beat my highscore by so much.
