I was okay with the letters! but anytime a number came up it threw me off lol. One thing is that I wish the music didn't restart each playthrough. I never lasted long enough to hear the song lol. Also the hit sound sounds more like snoring than being hit.
Nice game, also nice to chat with during streams ;)
Only remarks we've done during the stream already but i'll remark them here
- Make the ball a little slower when it -approaches- the player giving me time to actually see the ball
- Increase difficulty a little slower, shouldn't be so blasted and give me time to warm up
- a way to prevent Key Mashing, i actually got a python script to work in the end and got about 20k score before i got bored ;)
Amazing execution of the concept. The buttons were really random, so I'd end up messing up a lot of times (either that or I just got the reactions of a frog), so maybe I think it would be great if you could make it prompt more commonly used buttons in video games like WASD + QE.
So far, I've only tried with the keyboard so far but I'll definitely try it out with a gamepad later tonight and update this! Aside from being "bomballded" with random keys, I really enjoyed the art, music, SFX. :D
Hahah thanks for the feedback.
About the WASD+QE part. I actually realized that us gamers mostly use those keys and we are not so fast with other keys, so we should get really good with a keyboard, so I think truely randoming the keyboard keys is better in this scenario. Do definitely give it a try with the Gamepad, it's really fun playing the Keyboard + Gamepad mode.
Very interesting. Tried all the different input methods. I actually think combining keyboard + gamepad or mouse + gamepad is a very underutilized control scheme. I can imagine using a joystick to control a character and a mouse to aim, for example, could be a great way to control the right game. My issue with this game, however, is that the circles moved very fast and were very difficult to read while in motion. Realistically, you have until the time they stop until the time they fire at you to press the key, which isn't much time. Reducing the number of keys to just the home row or at least removing the number keys would make the game feel nicer to play in my opinion. If you get a number then you get thrown off your rhythm and will often get hit by 3 in a row trying to just hit the one key. Other than that, the idea is solid and could be really fun with some tweaks. Nice job overall, thanks for making it!
its a cool idea, however the gameplay was way to quick, I think any average player would only last like 5 seconds, I think this could be benefited loads from maybe starting off easier, the images still had white lines from not exporting / importing correctly, concept is neat, you suited the theme perfectly, dodging objects in just the one room, music is good, hit sound effect is funny, maybe add another one for dodging?
Great idea and game. I think I could have scored more in the game if bombs were going top to bottom.
Clever idea, but almost impossible to play with keyboard, as all the keys look the same, especially at that speed. Gave it a go with the controller, since there are fewer buttons (some of which are colored) in a variety of shapes. Alas, it was still much too fast (in my experience).
You might consider either having them fly across the screen slower at the start, and increase speed as the game goes on, giving the player a sort of 'warm-up' period. Also, having ease to a stop with interpolation would make for a more visually pleasant experience.
Otherwise, you're off to a good start. Fine work, and good luck! :D
I've played with a controller the most, i felt it more enjoyable this way, when 3 enemies are throwing quick time events at you it becomes truly challenging!
Good concept!, executed just fine but it lacks feedback when i hit the right key, a sound indicator or a the key would flash on the key or both should be enough just to have that confirmation that you did hit the right key. Also 0 and O looks the same maybe make the zero like this β0β?
absolutely agree with the feedback. I had initially made it so that you could only click the button which is the closest to the player. But ran into issues there, and I had sadly procrastinated on the core game concept till the last day. So this was the closest to a least-buggey game design I could come up with π¬.
I did consider the 0-O issue as well. But didn't get enough time π₯Ίπ₯Ί
Rating as Follows:
GAMEPLAY
Bomballded is a simple touch typing game that can be played with keyboard, gamepad (xbox controller) or a mixture of both! given my skills in touch typing (Hardly any) the game was interesting id find myself dragging my fingers across numerous keys hope I press the correct one in time! overall interesting Concept.
THEME
It follows the theme of Dodging quiet well using avoiding Dodgeballs as the main take away, it also falls under the optional theme of One Room as the whole game appears to not leave the Yellow and Red room.
AESTHETICS
The Aesthetics of Bomballded are very simple colours and art, recent angle bodies with legs as player/enemies, art all blends nicely together and nothing looks out place other than when the dodgeballs are in motion it is a little taxing on the eyes.
SOUND
Sound in the game was used quite well, simple background music, audio indicator when hit my dodgeballs letting you know about it

I love the challenge that a typing game provides (I made one myself) and its a fun fast paced game. Color scheme is a little taxing on the eyes, and makes the letters hard to see on the dodgeballs. I also like the implementation of using a joy pad as well.
