Hello! This is definitely a Mario Kart undercover to avoid nintendo's wrath. XD

I'm surprised there is a game like this in the jam, but without using Unite I don't really know how much is RPG maker and how much Unity.
Though I can give some observations on the gameplay:
- I liked the course, but three rounds were too much: after the first I was first and running alone. And without twists or strong items like mario kart (shells, bananas, lightning...) there was no exitement.
- The selection of animal at the start doesn't make sense since you don't even know what the gameplay is.
- At some point I lost direction, maybe an arrow or a sign if you're going the wrong direction would help disoriented players.

If you're interested I streamed the game. Here's the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2470506859

Thanks for playing and providing feedback! All game race checkpoints, timers, progression, dialogue, variables, scenes, music, and UI are using rpgm unite. I am able to event in the 3D world with some Unity editor add-ons and plugins I made... which allows me to leverage unity's other 3d tools like navmesh, timline etc. :) If you are interested in learning more, I wrote a devlog for another game I made that shows how I use rpgm unite with unity... check it out here: https://lochraleon.itch.io/the-northsong-rift/devlog/831828/making-the-northsong...

Cool showcase of unite features integrating with 3d unity. You've made a nice base of a animal racing game, even with a hint of combat/attacks in it!

Thanks so much for playing Nowis! I wish I had time to implement drifting! Lol

I really like the character models and the movements look fluid. However, the camera not automatically shifting (unless I misunderstood something) was annoying and playing with keyboard+mouse wasn't easy. The races themselves and the effects in the race were also kind of plain, though engaging enough for the couple of runs. Anyway, nice stuff!

Thanks for playing and providing your thoughts. It is actually the player that auto turns toward the camera when moving forward. For that reason, the camera needs to be turned manually but not the player. You see this control style in many action-oriented third-person games or first-person shooters. Basically, you only need to hold the W key and point the camera in the direction you want to move for easy auto-turning of your character.

Great job buddy. Couple of grammar issues aside dude to cutscenes. This works really well and impressive you can get that level of performance out of Unite with 3d too.

Would love to see you iterate on this in the future if you can find the time. Really fun experience. I like the multiple endings and I feel the actual ending for not winning vibed better with the theme than winning.

I'm so happy you had the chance to play and stream my entry! I truly appreciate the feedback. After the jam, I plan to release an updated version with typos corrected and the dialogue polished. Additionally, I want to introduce a 'Just Race' mode for those who simply want to dive into action with different beasts :) Thanks again Padr!

this game really wants to make me learn unite cause it's really impressive what you were able to do in this game!

i do wish it was a little bit longer though, the game itself was fun but definitely cut short when there was only 2 races. so if you ever plan on continuing this project. i look forward to seeing what more you can do with it!

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback and playing the game. I really appreciate you playing it on stream, too!

Dood. This game feels like a statement that Unite can do better. That being said, I'll try to give you my thoughts after a single attempt.

So spelling/grammatical, borked UI issues aside since that comes prepackaged with the Unite engine, the controls work better than I thought. I tried doing 2 laps but apparently the lap ended and it net me no new event from the character telling me to stop. I ended up using all my 5 minutes and it counts as a failure. Plot is simple. Pay your debt, enter a race to win. I also forgot. Lack of sound effects/music on my end. Although the title screen has it. If there is music, I can't hear it that well enough.

So yeah. The 3d environments' something else here. The character designs are immaculately well made. I'm not a huge 3d buff but even I must commend the effort taken here. I'll try again once I get a better grasp of things.

Developer

Thanks for testing it out, I really appreciate it!  Based on your feedback, I went through another complete run on my end to ensure the sounds and 1st race worked. I'll keep an eye out for if any others players that experience similar issues. If you give it another attempt, let me know if it happens again :)  If you see your next checkpoint is red, it means you might have missed one.  The 1st race qualifying should end in one lap, after a little confetti animation, if you hit all the checkpoints :) thanks again!

Oh. So I have to check all the red checkpoints to green? Good to know. I'll try again.

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah :) Your next checkpoint will always be green. Once you run through the green checkpoint, it will disappear, and the next checkpoint you need to run through will turn green. So always run through the green checkpoint.

Okay. Finally tested it out to its completion. Just. Wow. The fact that something like THIS can be made in Unite when everything I've seen so far made by the engine has been lackluster at best or just... y'know at worst. You know you're making the bank here considering the low competition pool for this is. Let's hope you'll get far.

So, the camera controls are a bit finicky using the mouse but honestly with the engine's limitation, you've done so much more than exceeding my expectations. You went beyond in proving a literal point to developers that Unite isn't completely hopeless. At least in this aspect.

Developer

Thanks so much! It means a lot. I truly appreciate you taking the extra time to play through it to completion and providing your thoughts and feedback.
