The design of the game looks great from the videos, but I was not able to get the game running on my computer. Some points of friction I encountered trying to play this:
1. Web builds make it easier to simply play the game without having to deal with potentially dangerous downloads, so a web build would help a lot. I am also confused why the download link on the itch.io page would take me to a Google Drive link instead of just using itch.io's servers?
2. Trying to play the game, the application asked for me to install prerequisites for Unreal Engine, but then I also encountered the issues noted by katagin regarding the title screen being black/not playing the video background. When I relaunched the game after this, it asked me to install prerequisites again.
3. The game asked for network access, but nothing in the game description on itch.io would lead me to expect that. Perhaps this is just an issue with Unreal Engine or Windows, but it seems strange. If the game requires network access, some disclaimer would help. If the game does not require network access, perhaps there is a way to configure that in Unreal so it does not ask/prompt Windows to approve it.
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, unfortunately, the latest version of Unreal doesn’t support web builds, and the file size was too big to store here instead of Google. I’m really sorry to hear you ran into the codec issues too. This was my first time trying a short media file instead of a flipbook animation inside Unreal—guess that’s what caused the black screen issue in the main menu.
I don't understand a little or the game is not working correctly. It starts, the music is there, the title is there, the cursor is there, but everything else is completely black and when you press the keys or mouse nothing happens
Hey, I think there might be a bug with the codecs since the media for the main menu failed to load. Try clicking in this area with your mouse to start the game:
Absolutely awesome. I just wish I had a little more time to reload.
Thanks! You can hold RMB for as long as you want to reload. 😊
This is incredible, you have smashed it! Winner in my eyes for sure. Job well-done!
I think there are better candidates, but I really appreciate it - thank you!
Thank you!
The pacing, visuals, and gameplay all come together beautifully. Fantastic job!
Thanks a lot!
Very nice and underrated game!
The graphics were very nice, and the game was fun. I do though think that some kind of charge up ability would have been nice. For example charging up the gun to shoot all of the remaining bullets in a quick succession.
If this had a web version it would probably have a lot more ratings, but I don’t know how that stuff works in Unreal.
Well done!
Damn, that’s actually a great idea—wish I had thought of it during the jam 😭. Good shout! I wish making a web version in Unreal was easy... 😩
great job, one of my favourite games of this jam :)
Thank you!
Good job! Love how the game plays and feels, nailed the atmosphere!
Thank you! 😊
I absolutely love this game. Good job. You can probably add some random paths for replayability.
Thanks! Yeah, that would be cool!
This was an amazing game. Really feels like the first Time Crisis era. The fog is killing it. The animation and over all look and feel is just right. What was your texture process? I followed Pwnishers video but your textures have a grittiness that I can't put my finger on. Did you use Vertex Maps or were the textures smaller than 128x 128?
Hey, thanks! As for the textures, I scaled all of them down to 256px with the nearest filter for that pixel look. I also used a modified version of a post-process material from @EvilReFlex with a custom LUT to limit the color palette
Absolutely amazing! As bugsnuggle said, SUPER great job on the animations, atmosphere and art style. I absolutely loved the on rails type of shooter mechanics. Reminded me of being in an arcade!
I ran into a bug where reloading after moving to a new spot replayed the camera moving animation in reverse.
I would have also liked to see different damages based on where you shoot. I kept shooting people in the head and they lived haha!
Seriously one of the best ones I've played yet. Nailed this one. GREAT job.
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I’d love to add headshots at some point, just didn’t have the time—same as all of us, haha
Incredibly impressive! The animations, atmophere and the shooting mechanics are all super smooth. Im super impressed by how polished this game looks and feels!
Thank you for the kind words!
I'm glad you liked it!
