Description
Blake, a young girl full imagination searches for her place in the world. Along with her imaginary friend Silvy, the personification of the Moon, she escapes the worries of reality through her dreams which reflect the periods of her life.
The different tracks reflect her chronological journey through life.
Track 1 : "Blake & Silvy"
Blake open her eyes to a new world, the world she will live in for the rest of her life. Even though she have just been born, she is already full of life and joy. Discovering patterns and dancing colours all around her, through her first years she evidently appears to be a quick learner, picking up multiple musical instruments and learning how to play them before even being able to talk.
But during every full moon, she's calmer and more dreamy than usual and stares for hours at the shiny sky. One of these nights, she speaks her first world while looking at the silver moon and says "Silvy".
Track 2: "Fireflies are birds that fly in the Sky"
Blakes grows up as a very friendly, talkative and creative child. Along with her friends she embarks in amazing adventures she shares at night with her friend Silvy. Her dreams are filled with peaceful and vibrant landscapes.
Track 3: "I want a motorbike that can take me to the Moon"
As she grows older, through her teen years, Blake progressively understands how hard it is to stay dreamy, creative and strong charactered. She understands that to fully fit, she might need to leave behind her "childlike" ideas . During the nights, her dreams are more
agitated and filled with dangers. She wants to be closer to Silvy now more than ever.
Track 4: "Sloth of the lost Souls"
In her older life of working in a soulless company, Blake is drained from her joy of living, drifting around in her life aimlessly. Her dreams are just an incomprehensible blur where Silvy doesn't show up anymore. She hasn't looked up to the Moon for many years now.
Track 5: "I see it in the distance"
Upon, coming back to her childhood house to visit her parents, Blake finds herself in her room alone during a full moon. At that moment she remembers what her life meant and how it was ripped away from her by the sloth of society and decides to take it back. She spends the night reconnecting with her past friend Silvy.
Message from the artist:
I used Logic as my DAW with BBCSO and LABS as my primary libraries.
For this jam, I tried going a bit more simple and less epic than what I usually write (except for the last track, gotta do what I love doing still hehe).
This was a very last minute submission as I only had around 15-20h to work on the project but really wanted to get the story through! So the mixing and composition might be rough here and there, but I hope you still enjoy it!
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
The story was inspired by the ideas of dream, imagination, adventure and by the moon.

I love how much emotion this encapsulated. The story fit perfectly to the soundtrack, amazingly done!
Thanks for the listen, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Blake and Silvy: The peaceful opening piano chords are great for the beginning of a joyful life. I think you have great pacing that allows the music to tell the story of a toddler who has lots of energy and spirit and how she perceives the world. Particularly, I think the pizzicato strings were an excellent touch to show the bounciness that a young child carries themselves with.
Fireflies are Birds the Fly in the Sky: I can picture the fireflies/stars as soon as the track started with the twinkly mallet instrument. The flute melody in this track is absolutely gorgeous. Your use of flute over piano chords and string staccato is a combination that I might borrow in the future to help evoke carefree and adventurous youth.
I Want a Motorbike that Can Take Me to the Moon: The flute and strings are lower and more mature in this song which matches the story of Blake getting older very well. I like the quick switches from 3/4 to 4/4 time throughout, it’s almost like a musical double-take. The emotion of struggling to realize inner desires is conveyed well through this piece.
Sloth of the Lost Soul: I love the solo instrument with lots of reverb - as if there is emptiness in Blake’s life and she has tunnel vision preventing her from seeing what her childhood eyes could see. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but I think that silence at the beginning and end of the track works well as a sort of space-occupying contemplative vacuum for reflection.
I See it in the Distance: This is beautiful. I can tell that this is your style - and you are definitely great at it. It was like watching a short movie while listening to this song. Your harmonies and melodies paint all the emotions of what is happening. Thank you so much for sharing this story and musical experience!
Thanks for your detailed comment, it really means a lot! I really love the combination of strings (especially pizz) and woodwinds as a main instrument or just for texture with staccatos for example (you have a really quick glance of this at the end of the B part of my 3rd track with the dissonant flute stacc intervals which then resolve). Talking about the 3rd track, it's interesting that you point out a 3/4 to 4/4 switch as I wrote it as a 4/4 but I realised it can be interpreted as an alternation between 2 3/4 measures and 1 2/4 measure if you follow the celli ostinato. I was going for an almost "polyrhythmic unsettling 4/4" so I'm glad it went through!
For "Sloth of the lost Souls", it was my most rushed track so I didn't have time to make a proper intro/outro but I'm glad you you enjoyed it, I agree that it fits the atmosphere I was going for pretty well.
I love creating little stories you can follow through a piece of music. I started out making music with the mindset of a score composer so I always have evocative images in mind and try to convey them through my tracks. I 'm also trying to do the same with my limited drawing skills through my covert arts lol. I love scoring to actual images, I'm actually working on a (very) amateur film score with some friends and I'll make sure to share it when it's done in a couple of months!
This is all super cool! I agree that scoring to actual footage (of a film or of gameplay) makes composing that much more magical and fun! I would be really excited to hear it whenever you are at a place to share it!
A relatable composer that truly knows what they're doing. Love to see it.
So pretty. Love the chord choices throughout, they really give that dreamy vibe. Loved the Labs Piano in track 4 over that tonic drone. Brilliant ost!
Thanks a lot! The last piano bit just came very naturally when I was writing the last track so I'm glad you enjoyed it. I feel like it really represents what I was going for with this jam entry!
It is very beautiful, from the first track! That melancholic yet joyful piano and the additional orchestration coming gives it a lovely and carefree character. I could clearly see the fireflies and birds with those light notes/instruments in the second track! Well done. I could then feel the bitterness of growing and leaving childhood and it's carefree magic in the 3rd track... Such a cool title btw :)
The buzzing sound in the background helps feeling how Blake is drained, the melody here is beautifully captivating, the song made me feel lost, kind of sad and discouraged. It's sometimes very slightly dissonant and it reinforces those feelings.
The long violins opening perfectly captures hopes coming with the sight of home, or the sight of the moon again I guess. Then! Big orchestration for strong determination! I had will again ^^
It ends with the same piano that it started with to conclude peacefully, with an intimate feeling, well describing the relationship between Blake, Silvy, and the moon...
I really spent a good moment listening to this very poetic story, I loved it! I don't know if you've already listened to my submission but it has the same poetic vibe I guess, short touching naive story... Not everyone kind of stuff, but you know, I think I like being romantic haha :)
Hey, thanks a lot for your detailed comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the OST! Haven't had a chance to listen to your submission but I'll make sur to drop a comment when I do
I absolutely love Blake & Silvy, such a great job illustrating the first discoveries of life with pizz and percussions. Such a great orchestration as well, and I like the intriguing harmonisation at the end of I want a motorbike as well. and such a beautiful atmosphere for Sloth of the lost Souls(my favorite!) and I see it in the distance. I really enjoyed listening it. thank you for sharing!!
Thanks a lot! Wasn't expecting so much people to like "Sloth of the lost Souls" honestly. Maybe I should try making more atmospheric tracks in the future!
That was just beautiful! I love the hopeful and intimate feeling of the whole soundtrack. It’s all so relaxing, but also intriguing; I wish I was able to create that kind of composition. Great job, and best of luck to you in the jam!
Glad that you liked it and that the ambivalence of Blake went through ^^ Best of luck to you too in the jam!
Wow! Beautiful melodies and harmonies, nice production quality too. Love the choice of instruments in each track. Great job!
Thanks for the listen, I went all in with the harmonies on this one so I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Damn dude this story is so real. I got lost in Sloth of the Lost Souls, but glad its the holidays lol. I love how you kept it a little bit whimsical amid the subtle oppressive atmosphere. The last track is really a emotional journey and a beautiful moment in your story. It gets so epic! And the outro is a perfect conclusion. I can picture Blake and Silvy reconnecting :)
Hey, thanks a lot for the listen! Really wanted that strong contrast of emotions between the sadness and melancholy reflected on the exterior and the joy and creativity held inside Blake in later moments of her life. So I'm glad the idea went through and hopefully it wasn't too heavy for the happy and cheerful holiday season haha!
your soundtrack has such a strong storytelling element and is so captivating all the way through - “Blake & Silvy” and “Sloth of the lost Souls” have such beautiful and unique instrumentation, while “I see it in the distance” is so dynamic and climactic!!
i feel like i can learn a lot from your writing as i’ve always struggled with orchestral writing, so thank you for submitting and great job!
Thanks a lot for the comment! I'm really glad you resonated with the story I was telling through my tracks!
For the instrumentation, I'm heavily inspired by orchestral VGM/TV composers mainly Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori (Destiny and Halo) for epic orchestral, Christopher Larkin (Hollow Knight) for more intimate orchestral, Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss) for hybrid orchestral, among others.
I really love these jams as I feel even though we create very different things we can all progress together, so really don't hesitate to hit me up if you have any questions I'll be glad to help!
Amazing tracks! They really help with telling the story. My favourite is Fireflies, I love how the happiness just keeps getting more happy :D
Thanks! haha Yeah I had the idea of the silly title "Fireflies are birds that fly in the Sky" pretty early in the writing process and I knew I wanted to write something fun and lighthearted for it!
I loved this one! Very well orchestrated with a really nice pace and great cohesion between all pieces. My english is not good so i can't really put in words what i feel, but i'm really impressed. Those strings, those harmonies, totally absorbed me! I want a motorbike that can take me to the moon is my favorite. Very classical and cinematic.
Thanks for the comment! I really focused on harmonies to express the emotions of the story I wrote. It's always nice to be able to express in music the things we sometimes can't put in words 😉
Such magical tunes! Ranging from the motivating (Fireflies and Birds) to the depressing (Sloth of the lost Souls). Very well rounded soundtrack and well finished. I see it in the Distance is my favorite. Very breathtaking, such a great cinematic atmosphere! Great job on that epic buildup. The final piano section is gorgeous, too. Very nice ending theme.
Thanks for the listen! I do love some epic orchestrated music but the fragility of the piano in "I see it in the Distance'' brings the piece into a full circle which is an idea I wanted to convey in the album. I'm glad you like it!
This whole project is gorgeous! You represent all the stages of life so well! I can't believe you made it so quickly!! My favourite is the Motorbike one, it's absolutely gorgeous! And I forgot to stop and it played through the entire soundtrack and I didnt even question it. Thats absolutely the sign of an amazing playlist! Well done!
Thanks a lot! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and yeah it really was a crunchtime jam for me haha but I'm glad I got the story through. I went all out on the tracks' names and this one had my favorite title 🙂
This is really great, the atmosphere in Sloth of the Lost Souls is incredible! The whole thing was a treat to listen to.
Also thanks for recommending me Made in Abyss ...like a year ago (wow). I finally got around to watching all of it this summer and Kevin Penkin's soundtrack for it is stunning, it really elevated the whole thing to an incredible experience
Thanks for the listen! And yeah Kevin Penkin really created something truly unique there. I have the 3rd season's OST on loop right now so he's a big inspiration
It's really funny because I also found the time to play "Hyper Light Drifter" recently (that you also recommended a while back) and it's truly an amazing experience. The music, sound design and overall world building really are fascinating. I can't wait to play Hyper Light Breaker!
Yeah I was listening to the Made in Abyss OST a lot on walks leading up to this jam, it's so incredible. Glad you were able to also play Hyper Light Drifter! I always found it so cool how it builds itself using almost exclusively visual and auditory storytelling. I'm definitely hyped for Hyper Light Breaker as well
