Okay that's good that my interpretation matches this. I gave 5 stars for uniqueness! I think that would be a good change for clarification and to encompass all of what you are trying to capture.

Thank you so much for listening and sharing your thoughts! It's really nice to be able to share another jam with you - you have been such a consistent presence in many of the jams I've participated in. Maybe it's silly to say, but I feel like we have "grown up" together in our music making and its fun to see how far we've both come!
This is such a kind comment. Thank you for your attentive listening and for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate you commenting on liking the transitions between various styles - we wanted a variety that all still resonated with the theme and our game idea and we are proud of what we made! Thank you again for such kind words!
Thank you so much for listening and giving this kind comment! We definitely had Mario Galaxy in mind as a prominent reference, and some of the game play I imagined stems from some of the levels from SMG so I'm glad that came to mind while you were listening! I'm glad the linear approach sat well with you - that was a fun experiment!
Main Theme (Lost): The upward arpeggios and suspended chords create such a floaty and thought-provoking environment. Contrary to the deep sadness you describe, I think that there is a gentle and somewhat blue mood that is also infused with a dose of awe that turns the overall mood into a content loneliness very fitting for being up in space. I love the piano - the reverb is so spacious and beautiful. Somehow you managed to make it so there is no clashing despite the long reverb tail. This is a very beautiful track overall - well done!
Moon Rock Waltz: Those shimmery plucks create a starburst sound we really wanted to make in our submission - but you executed it perfectly. The harmony in this piece is moving closer to the sadness that you describe, but the lively dance-like feel contrasts this and injects almost a sense of love into the track.
Ode to Stardust: Instant nostalgia for Cosmic Cove Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy 2! I love the piano arpeggio style that has such a weightless cosmic feel. The melody is quite beautiful and the heart-wrenching harmony drives the longing sadness (contrary to despair) in deep.
Overall you have captured a very magical space sound that has a paradoxical distant intimacy. Bravo with your space palette which is very beautiful and well-balanced. This is an exceptional OST. Thank you so much for sharing!
Sheni: The initial gated glitchiness seemed to place us directly in the biology research lab. The beat (very well-produced by the way) then seemed to shift the focus to the determination and drive of the main character in the story. The piano seems to represent the humanness of the situation and does a nice job working with the more technological electronic instruments and percussion. My favorite part of the track was 1:47 until the end with the really creative sound design!
REM: Equally impressive production on this track! There is more of an urgency to this track and I love the sound design at the break point about half way through where there are instrumental elements that seem like a heart beat and sirens. The organ at 1:30 was an unexpected choice, but I love the dire and climactic tone it delivers to finish out the track.
These tracks are impressively cohesive which I think was one of the biggest hurdles we faced in the collaboration on our submission. Thank you for the story you wrote - it was engaging and provided great context that helped me really appreciate your tracks to the fullest potential! I’m very curious about the white dwarf star and it would be fun to hear more tracks that describe the remainder of the story. Great job with the collaboration and thank you both for sharing!
The initial ambience sets the mood perfectly, but then the highlights of the piece - the dual guitars - enter and steal the show! They are written and performed so well. I think the uplifting first half shifting into the more mysterious second part so smooth and natural sounding that I almost didn’t realize that what I was listening to was a new space the first listen through. The part at 4:15 was the highlight of the entire song for me. The tremolo backing the gorgeous otherworldly melody was just so well-done. Great work on this and thank you for sharing!
Before I read your description, I was wondering if the sounds at the beginning were made from an ambient crowd noise recording because I couldn’t think of another way to create such a dynamic ambience. That’s really creative and the results are spectacular. The randomness of the electronic tones gives a strong sense of sci-fi technology, but I like that you kept the tones diatonic (as far as I can tell) and then they slowly come into focus toward the end of the track. This was a really interesting track and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it! Great work and thank you for sharing!
I think there is something to be said about monotony in a space theme. I’ve never been to space, but I imagine that a majority of the time it’s not as glamorous as movies often make it seem. It takes a long time to get anywhere up there and there is probably a lot of waiting. That being said, I think that this track as an ambient track does a nice job of identifying a specific setting and the production allows us to feel like we, as the main character, are there. Expanding on this idea and adding a second section for an ABA pattern is the next step that will elevate this to the next level! Thank you for sharing!
This is such a nice feel-good track! Excellent quality on this. It has very nice pacing with several new elements that energize the repeated chord progression. I felt very safe with your production skills throughout and just vibed the first two listens through. This track would work really well as the background track for a small fun game that people reach for when they want to pass the time and get a little dopamine rush. Great job on this and thank you for sharing!
The initial ambience is very smooth and feels like liquid - moving but very fluid. The violin melody that emerges is haunting and beautiful. I think that your orchestration overall is very well-written (I especially love the blasty brass parts). I do think that with the first part of the piece and the more ambient parts having such a fluid sound, that the rest of the instruments would benefit from a little more spacious reverb to match. I really like the doubling of the brass hits with the crunchy bass to get a really thick and splattery sound. Nice work on this and thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the introduction to the genre of space western that I didn’t know I was missing! You do a great job making all the individual instruments feel natural together and have a live performance quality. The section at 2:15 was really fun with the bluesy organ and then of course the 2:50 blast off trumpet was spectacular. I had to look up what Soundpaint was because that trumpet is really an incredible VST. This was a really fun track and I loved the story that you wrote. Excellent work and thank you for sharing!
I think that initially the string orchestration feels very bottom heavy and a little like moving chords, but at 0:47, you can hear the strings each take their own line and the voice leading sounds more organic. I really like the spiccato section in the middle as it changes the mood and the pacing and functions to help keep the momentum of the song moving forward. The final section of the song is layered quite nicely and I really love the violin melody at this point at 2:30. I felt both pensive and longing in this track which I think fits with the description you provide. Well done! This was a pleasant listen, thank you so much for sharing!
Enter A World of Wonders: I listened to this track once through before reading your description and I was imagining a sort of dark academic library setting and feeling the wonder and awe of all of the ideas and possibilities around you. In a way, your description feels similar and I still imagine a similar type of building. I love the mixture of long and short, legato and plucky, droning and energetic instrumentation and writing that I think does a great job of conveying both wonder as well as magnitude for the number of choices and different colors there are in this hub.
A Space Between Worlds: I really like the music box-like glockenspiel/vibraphone combo that initially gives a fresh and natural flavor and ends with more of a nighttime lullaby feel. The flute melody is quite beautiful, and I think maybe it could have a more natural breathing pattern if there was some motion in the expression to make it feel a little more reactive and alive. The drums add a natural wooden quality that amplifies the forest environment, but also conveys an almost foreboding tone that seems to represent caution in this new environment.
Your New Home: This track conveys a sense of warmth and almost regal feeling that makes me think the main character feels very at home and has a personal sense of pride in their new land. I think this track was a little different than I was expecting, though the composition and orchestration remains well-made!
Overall I like the more intimate (versus spacious and expansive) approach you took on the theme supported by each of these tracks. The story feels much more personal because of this. I think my favorite track was the first one for the orchestration, but also it seemed to fit the theme images the best. Great work on this and thank you for sharing!
I wish there was a creativity category in this jam because you would certainly have the highest score of anyone in this jam in my opinion. I love how you stepped out of the box and applied the theme from several different approaches. I will be using the uniqueness category to convey these thoughts and you have full points from me there. Your production is really strong and the composition also is a really nice blend of several widely varied types of instruments that you make sound quite natural together. I think my one thought giving me pause on this track is the melody instrument that emerges at 2:18. It sounds quite thin, and while you help remedy this somewhat by having a swaying panning automation, as the orchestra builds really big around it it feels like it should be growing as well. Maybe that can be accomplished with slowly stopping the swaying and keeping it centered with a crescendo, or maybe it can be doubled by a wider instrument? In any case, I don’t think that it detracts from the beauty of this piece. I enjoyed it and would be quite at ease hearing this in a game. Great work and thank you for sharing!
The use of electric guitar grounding the emotion and using the orchestra to elevate the mood and propel the energy is a creative move. The pads drifting between chords have a distinct space-like quality which fits really well with the theme image. The frequencies of these chords and the electric guitar seem to collide with each other and I wonder if maybe carving out space for the lead electric guitar in the center of the soundfield might help the track feel balanced without sacrificing any of the sounds you use. I really appreciate your use of grand pauses to utilize lack-of-sound as a potent instrument to convey moments that are just as poignant in this emotional track as the other instruments. This was a nice relaxing and pleasant listen. Great work and thank you for sharing!
Title Theme: This track starts out ominous and foreboding. The drum kit and bass then add a sense of confidence fitting for a fighting game. I really like the melody used in the guitar! It is simple and memorable which would allow you to use it as a leitmotif in lots of different ways throughout this game. This sets up a great atmosphere that appropriately sets my expectations for what else I will hear in the game.
gefräßigkeit: I was wondering how you were going to make the theme of an “uncivilized power-thirsty alien” sound, and you certainly did not disappoint! The chaotic guitar riff over a relatively static harmony emphasizing the major 2nd interval embodies tension and chaos but still keeps me engaged.
It would be really fun to hear the themes for the other fighters in your game idea! You have a great start on this - you should certainly keep going! Very nice work, thank you for sharing!
Unseen Realms Final: The didgeridoo with chimes creates a very earthy yet mystical effect. The soprano vocal adds an extra layer that I agree gives this a really nice fantasy sound. I agree with Eetu below that this definitely fits the LOTR vibe. I really love the deep percussive hits that add an epic layer of tension. The production quality sounds cinematic and professional - your work certainly paid off!
Realms Unseen Choral: The dual female voices are hauntingly beautiful. The composition is reminiscent of chant music and two line harmony is really well written. Looking forward to hearing the finished version when you are able to get to it!
I am very impressed with these! Both production and composition are stellar (pun intended) and the finished track feels ready to be in a film! Great work and thank you for sharing!
I certainly think you accomplished the alive with depth feeling! And that makes sense to me - I had assumed this because it sounds more terrestrial than what I would expect for the other two images. I think the profound nature and the emotional depth from the Great Comet painting is clear in your writing. Thanks for the response!
Cosmic Greenery: I love the digital rain drops sound in the Logic stock instruments. That was a really good idea for conveying a cosmic environment. The chinese ruan moon guitar is another great choice to add a unique texture flavor! Overall there is a softness to this sound that has a natural quality to it all while still distinctly representing space which I think paints a “cosmic greenery” image really well. Because you asked for critical feedback, one comment I have is that the drum kit gets washed out by the richness of the pads. I can hear the sidechain effect so that the kick is audible, but I wonder if boosting some of the higher frequencies in the EQ could help let it punch a little more.
Spacewalk with a Side of Existential Dread: I think the reverb and specific combination of instruments you use is what adds the most weight to the existential dread side. It almost feels like there is a lively feel to the melody, but the long reverb sucks away the positivity of it. Great use of production to convey story elements! The melody especially in the final third of the piece with the underlying piano arpeggios really captivated me and the word contemplative seems like the perfect descriptor.
These tracks were very pleasant to listen to and allowed for that same reflection that you describe the astronaut feeling. I am appreciative that you still submitted even if it felt unfinished to you. Good work and thank you for sharing!
Breath of Vathys: This prelude is quite dynamic for the relatively short duration. You packed a lot into this track! The shifts in energy feel like the track is breathing - very musical! I really liked the choral textures that add an epic feel at the end. This works well as a prelude and sets up the next piece quite well.
By the King: This track does a really good job of telling a story through the music. The passing off from cello to strings with flute flourishes, and then to trumpet with the choral falling effect feels like a very cinematic symphonic intro. I really enjoyed the regal heroic adventure sections and how they interact with and contrast with the softer and flowing sections. The main motif is simple and works really well to convey a sense of royalty as your title suggests. The key change felt quite epic and adds a nice conclusion to the piece. This was an enjoyable listen and your composition skills shine here. I appreciate your notes about leaving interpretation up to the listener and it allowed me to imagine what rich cultures Vathys has. I’m curious which painting you were basing this off? Nice work on these and thank you for sharing!
Nevidęštu: The heavy and foreboding nature of this track along with the sinister and hauntingly beautiful harmony gives this a gravitas that sends shivers down my back. The synths you use have a distinctly space-like sound. I love it!
Prědělъ Sъvězdьnъ: This track seems to have a feeling that is determined and resolute. My favorite part was at 2:24 with the dance-like and plucky melody that sounded somewhat like a royal court.
Kъnězьstvo Věčьnoe: This track seems a little more unsure and questioning in nature compared to the previous track. I like the commonalities between the two pieces and they form a nice dyad. Good work on these and thank you for sharing!
Synchronize: These chords are pure nectar. All of your sounds are blended very well. The piano arpeggios with the warpy harmony and high register warbles create such a vivid scene that instantly places me in the game you are imagining. I love the imagery of new Big Bangs and world births.
Proclaimed Architect: Your instinct to create a track like this to balance the seriousness of the rest of the OST is spot-on. This track works so well and adds to the OST rather than pulling it in a different direction. It adds more relatability to the story which is attractive. I can hear the effects of the stretching in the snare a little, but overall I really enjoyed this tempo and feel.
Mal-function: Another creative addition to the soundtrack! I love the subtle percussion that comes in at the 1 minute mark. You managed to capture the feeling of distant dread really well in this track.
UPROOTED: This is a really cool track! The constant changing of everything keeps me on my toes and leads me to expect the unexpected which is really great for a significant battle track. I like the re-introduction of the despair motif as it ties the OST together and makes everything feel cohesive. I really enjoyed the lead instrument that comes in at 0:37 and that felt like an emotional high point. I wonder if using that instrument for the despair motif that comes in at 2:44 would help provide a more climactic sound at the end of the track and nail in the emotional weight of the familiar motif. This is seriously an impressive track and there aren’t many things I would change about it!
Overall this is a really fun idea for a game and you executed unique story and character-driven tracks in a clear, intentional, and cohesive way. Your composition is very high quality and I would really enjoy playing a game with your music in it! Excellent work and thank you for sharing!
Star City: The jazzy piano over the space pads is a really nice way to portray a space city that feels like it might live in perpetual night. This track would accompany active creation gameplay (such as during a city design game segment) really well.
No Place: These are some beautiful ambient chords. I like the transitions between non-diatonic chords which give a sense of expansiveness and lack of groundedness which helps portray the intended atmosphere well!
Boundless: This is a fun track! I think this must be the only space waltz in this entire jam! (It’s the only one I’ve heard so far) The transition into the darker part is a big shift in tone, but somehow you were able to climb out of it and very smoothly return to the lighthearted waltziness. I like the set up for the loop at the end for this track!
Overall each of these tracks has quite a unique story to tell and all come together to tell a very interesting story. I think that Boundless is my favorite of the three - it’s such a creative and unexpected track that it executed really well. Great work and thank you for sharing!
Celestial Chasm: This is a fun track all around! The percussion and bass keep me grooving throughout and the synth syncopation with interesting melodic lines make this a really nice vibe! My favorite part was at 1:45 when the warbly panning-automated lead entered. The synth chord section offers a nice transition from the percussion-heavy section to the more plucky section following and then ultimately into the following track.
The Beauty That Cannot Be Seen: The heavy bass and breakbeat entrances are very satisfying and inject some new energy into the synth chords that sort of seem to represent the zero-gravity floating feel of outer space. The pitch bending is a cool effect that makes me feel a little disoriented, but then lands in the third track really nicely.
Bizarre Land: This land seems particularly ripe for combat! The odd time signature keeps throwing me off and keeping me on my toes which makes me wonder if this is intended to be a battle theme, at least in part? I really like the particularly consonant section right around the 2 minute mark.
Overall I am impressed with your beat-making abilities and how well you tied the sound into the theme of the three images quite well. I think that it is hard for me to choose a favorite, but I think the first one is the one I vibed with the most! Great work on these and thank you for sharing!
Shroudreach Station: The harp arpeggios and glockenspiel starlight twinkling sets up a weightless and outer space feel that immediately puts me in the setting consistent with the theme images. I recognize that Musescore is primarily a compositional tool and is not intended for mixing, though I do wonder if some dynamic contrast with crescendos in the French horns would allow them to blend in and grow out of the delicate instrumentation from before they emerge. I really like the melody they introduce!
The Greenhouse: The plucky arpeggios and flute melody give me floral imagery that help place the new setting from the get-go. My favorite part is the counterpoint in the flutes in the ascending line from mm 38-43 toward the end!
The Archives: I like the return of the motif in this track. The rapid oscillating piano arpeggios create a sense of scholarly mystique that I really love. The reediness of the saxophone is an unexpected choice, but I think the flute is able to bridge the gap between the piano and saxophone.
Dark Side: I don’t know if there is an official name for it, but I call it the “Hotel California” progression - I really like its use here! The downward stepwise motion in the bass conveys the darker and melancholic tone of this track well.
Release, Sol: Musescore vocal samples sound quite artificial, but I absolutely can hear the full epic choral sound you are intending here! I imagine the gameplay being supported by this track is a grand climactic scene full of emotion and answers that are finally answered to the questions you’ve been searching for throughout the game up to this point.
Observatory: This track also has a climactic feel to it as it builds up with so many instruments. It does sound nice and conclusive making it a nice ending track for the whole OST. I liked the drawn out cadence at the end and especially the b7 - 7 - 1 at the very end.
Overall this is quite an impressive variety of music all working synergistically to tell your story. The composition throughout is quite impressive. I was listening for the Dies Irae motif, but I seem to have missed it - can you direct me to which track it is in? Well done and thank you for sharing!
The voice acting is really well done and is an engaging intro to the track! I really like the direction you took on this jam’s theme. Full points for uniqueness from me! While I don’t feel equipped to comment on most of this given lack of experience in this genre (and there are some great comments I see below), I do have some formal vocal training and what struck me about your vocals is that it is clear that you understand the words that you are singing and that extra bit of emotional congruence goes a long way to grab ahold of me tight throughout the song and touched me on a very human level. I really like this as is, but I also am interested to hear what it would sound like with the orchestral accompaniment like you suggest. Tremolo swells at the “feeling tired” part feel like they would add rather than detract possibly? Good luck with finishing your project and thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for such a thorough listen and for taking the time to write this entire comment! Overall I fully agree with all you've said! :)
When we approached working on this project together, we pulled many of our favorite video game space themes and analyzed them, since neither of us have had extensive “space” composition experience. We noticed there were several different styles that all felt like “space” and some of our early ideas (prior to writing the story) were to create tracks in each of these different space sub-categories. Some of them I agree ended up landing really well in this OST while others were a good experimentation, but maybe didn’t hit the mark. I appreciate your comments of track 5 sticking out and I think I agree. This was the first track I made to try and experiment with my sound libraries to try and find a space palette. It was intentionally trying to be poppy since one of the space categories we noticed we called “space pop” and included Rainbow Road themes and several Sonic themes. So the references you picked up were spot on, but I get that it feels like the odd one out of the bunch. This is a great takeaway point from this whole experience! I also really appreciate the mixing notes for the battle track - I hear exactly what you are referring to and totally agree. Great ears! And to be compared to Mario Galaxy is a wonderful compliment. That was a big inspiration for the first two tracks for sure! Thank you once again!
Kaleidoscope: The constant sliding motion over the pedal chord does a very nice job creating the beautifully disorienting feel of a kaleidoscope and matches the title very well. The chimes are used so well in this track to help create a floaty and dream-like space. They were subtle, but they are my favorite part of this track.
Project KRAKATOA: This is a very ominous track, quite fitting for the mystery and danger of the lab/facility theme. Again I like your use of holding a pedal note in the cello/strings and having the other instruments dance around that note to create tension with consistency.
Supernova Cannon: I really enjoyed this track. The heavy bass and kick combo sells the immensity and doom of the large weapon and dire circumstances. I really love the subtle use of piano, in particular the low notes.
Cometslayer Interlude: This is really creative and I think I can confidently say this is the first time I’ve heard a minor version of twinkle twinkle little star set for a doomsday style track. I enjoyed the large mechanical/sci fi sounds juxtaposed with the distant sweet sounds of the melody.
Act Five: Apocalypse: I really vibed with this somber wasteland environment you created. The crunchy synth melody at the end is also my favorite part of this track!
Overall this is a very nice dystopian take on the theme and you executed much of the tension and psychosis within your tracks quite well. I really enjoyed following along with the story and felt that you were able to create an OST that feels complete. Bravo! Great work with this and thank you for sharing!
No Looking Back: The initial ambience does a nice job representing a wasteland type of area. Then the build up injections the emotions of sadness, then hope, than nervous excitement which all accompany the story you described quite nicely. I really like the plucky string sounds over the orchestral strings which to me represent the nervous energy and excitement leading up to launch. The sound effects representing travelling at incredible speeds are really creative and I love ending on the sub-bass where I was feeling it more than I was hearing it. The final sequence of this track placed me in the scene and was a really cool experience.
Stranded: This is a very peaceful ambient track that uses cold pads mixed with warm piano. This dichotomy creates a sense of confusion and unease while the harmony supports these feelings and perpetuates that things seem pretty bleak.
No Way Back: The initial harmonic walk up and upward arpeggios seems to give a sense of optimism and hope which seems a little different than what I was expecting from the title. The viola/cello melody does a very nice job capturing the voice of Irene sharing really complex emotions that to me say “Is this what I wanted? Now I don’t have to return… But this is not what I thought it would be like.”
Escape: The gameplay seems to take an interesting turn with this track. The drum beat is really nicely produced and I really like the piano pattern holding onto the determination in the face of uncertainty. It would be really fun to hear more of what comes after this track in the story!
Overall these tracks pull together a really beautiful and emotional story that had me engaged the entire time. When I reached the end, I couldn’t help but shake the feeling that there should be more given that the fourth track varies from the style of the preceding tracks. It was very fun to listen to though and it would work really well in game to keep the adrenaline pumping! Very nicely done and thank you for sharing!
Nameless Creation: This is a very upbeat song and I hear the elements you included representing nature - upward motion representing growth, bouncy ostinatos that seem to represent a vivacious energy, and acoustic wooden percussion giving a sense of natural instrumentation. I really love the sudden key change at 2:16 that injects a brand new burst of energy into the track, making it feel even more alive.
Collapse: I feel quite relaxed listening to this track during the first half. I like the inclusion of the film noir distant smoky trumpet solo sound as the main melody, which adds a layer of curiosity to the relaxed undertone. The subtle 3 over 2 polyrhythm is a nice touch to keep the beginning of the track interesting. The hot synths that come in around 1:20 worked well to pull me from a sense of safety. I like the slow return to the piano motif at the very end.
Desolation: I really enjoy story arcs like this where the main conflict is player vs. nature because it allows for so much complexity and plenty of room for emotional exploration. This track does a very nice job exploring danger, uncertainty, and guilt. I appreciate the downward arpeggios which contrast the upward motion in the first track - this seems to represent death and decay.
Restoration of the Nameless Creation: I love the breakaway of the beat at ~0:36 bringing back the more optimistic sound. This is pretty creative to treat this final piece as a medley of the soundtrack. Nicely done!
Overall I felt transported through a full story in this OST which is not always easy to do in only 4 tracks. I appreciate your exploration with themes outside of generic “space” and I think the final result is one you should be very proud of! Great work and thank you for sharing!
I really love the rhythmic elements in the ambience at the beginning. Calm, floating, and lost in space all come to mind while listening to this track. I think the loud low melody in the middle section seems to take the attention away from the weightless vibe and adds a bouncy sense of gravity. I wonder if turning that particular instrument down in the mix would help smooth out the transition into and out of that middle section and keep the space vastness vibe consistent throughout. Overall this was very pleasant to listen to. Good job and thank you for sharing!
The deep space imagery is strong here! I really love the hyper-reverbed vocals that sound like voices emanating from a VERY long distance away. The emergence of the panning synth effect created both a relaxing feel and also gave the sense of fast smooth flightpath motion through space. The subtle guitar created a nice sense of arrival. Or perhaps it signals entering a new location and helps create a clear sonic identity for this track. I had an image of a satellite appearing still but traveling through space through the entire track. Great work on this and thank you for sharing!
Main Menu: The initial motif has really big and heroic intervals perfect for a main theme of a space game! I really like the sound selection you use and the “orchestra hit” sound takes me back to so many games from my childhood. You’ve successfully captured a strong sense of nostalgia and retro game quality while still making it sound new and fresh. Bravo for that!
Stage 1: This track has that classic arcade shooting game style sound that keeps the energy high and keeps you on your toes to face waves of enemies. I really appreciate the balance and mixing you’ve done that keeps the beat prominent but not overpowering to the melody and supporting harmony. This is a very nice track!
Stage 2: This stage builds on the previous track and has a very consistent quality while also giving a new theme that would certainly get stuck in my head as I played this game.
Boss: The pedal bass note pulses with the harmony moving up to the minor second gives a dissonance that injects a sense of danger very fitting for a boss battle. I think I was left wanting a little more of the high-register melody in the mix. I understand that you may have pushed it further back to avoid sounding harsh, but I think the levels of the melody at the ~1:40 mark find a good sweet spot that would also work well for the other melodies in the track.
Victory Jingle: I love when OSTs include jingles like this! They seem simple to make and include, but they are surprisingly challenging to execute in a way that conveys the intended emotion while feeling cohesive and consistent with the rest of the OST. You managed to do all of this and it adds so much to the soundtrack!
Victory!: I just imagined hearing this track playing in the background of an arcade after someone beat your game. Very nice heroic and conclusive sound while keeping the space vibe.
Overall, this is one of the most complete OSTs of the entire jam! I really enjoyed reading through your devlog and feeling validated that many challenges I face when approaching compositions are not unique to me. I appreciate the short and digestible loops throughout that show you composed these tracks with clear understanding of the gameplay in mind. Excellent work overall and thank you for sharing!
This is very cinematic! The vocal line is subtle and gorgeous. The orchestration is very impressive, I love the brassy textures over the strings. The percussion feels very tight and along with the string ostinatos does a nice job moving the track forward. I especially love the melody line with the voices and brass together that initially seems simple, but is unique, memorable, and heroic, which is not a simple thing to accomplish. It would be really awesome to hear more from their adventure! The cover art is extremely impressive as well. All around excellent work. Thank you for sharing!
The first part with the almost random melodic movement feels like the sideways movement of a crab walking while also giving a sense of an alien-like environment. The drum beat and the chords introduced help add some order and helps contextualize the “random” bell tones so that it makes sense. It makes me imagine that the alien civilization might initially not seem to make sense, but then after close observation, structure begins to emerge. I think that the drum beat is my favorite part of this piece. Very nice job on this and thank you for sharing!
